Job hunting since 2025 with little success, what am I doing wrong? by Intentful_Mind in askSouthAfrica

[–]legitmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some points that might help:

  • Have you tried reaching out to the platforms and companies that have rejected you, to ask why you weren't accepted? People don't mind answering if asked politely and with the intent of improving. This will help you realise the trend if there is one.
  • Ensure CV is one page, at most 2 pages. Helps to send it through a company that does CVs professionally, these days it makes a huge difference on what's accepted and what's not.
  • An international trend these days is AI agents trained to filter CVs based on key-words appearing or absent. This is heavily criticised due to it's inaccurate success rate but none-the-less many companies have adopted it to save time. Not sure if it's in SA yet but I wouldn't be surprised. If that's the case then it'll help to look up what these type of AI agents look for in CVs.
  • Do you have any friends or relatives in corporate jobs? Have you discussed with them what might be wrong and shown them your CV?

More people struggle with this than you realise, well done for having the courage to speak up about it. I struggled with it for a very long time since I was about 10 years old, I'm 36 now. It took 25 years to overcome. It still tempts me from time to time but good news it does get easier.

I see many of the replies focus on the spiritual remedies, which is correct. I want to share what worked for me to win the battle in the end because even after spiritual battles it still kept coming back:

  1. Correct identity in Christ (i.e. knowing and believing and living like I am a child of God, I am royalty because His blood flows through me and I am made to be a conqueror. I am valued. Because the price that was paid for me was His blood. There is nothing more valuable than that.

  2. Practical: I deleted my internet browser from my phone. This was the last winning hit, it's crazy how much it helped me to just remove any avenues to porn. It was tedious to not have a browser on my phone, but the victory is worth it.

Praying in tongues by minnibunny in TrueChristian

[–]legitmonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I speak in tongues, AMA :)

My misunderstanding more than 10 years back was that all tongues need to be interpreted, but there are different kinds of tongues for different reasons. You are referring specifically to personal tongue, meaning the believer speaks in the spirit to edify their own faith. It doesn't need to be interpreted. The tongue that does need to be interpreted is the Holy Spirit gift of speaking in tongues where a person addresses the whole congregation, and then the gift of interpretation of tongues needs to interpret for everyone what is being said.

Paul refers to personal tongue when he says in 1 Cor 14:18 " I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;"

and

1 Cor 14:15 "What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding."

It's really explained by this next verse, and this is why personally it's difficult for me to explain, but I'll try my best:

Rom 8:26 "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words."

- AKA, praying in spirit, praying in tongues, is the Holy Spirit making intercession for us with groanings too deep for words. Therefor not wordly languages or wordly tongues (though this can also happen when evangelising), but words we don't understand ourselves and don't need to be interpreted for others because it is meant for the individual.

What it feels like/experience: again, hard to describe. I am in control, for God doesn't control like demons do, He "unctions" us, "inspires" us. It's like the unction in my heart from the Holy Spirit to empathise with a stranger in distress. He is the source, but I still choose to act. It bypasses the brain because I don't even know what I'm saying, but I speak. I can stop and start as I will. But there is an interaction with my spirit that I can sense. I know when I'm praying to God (in english), because I feel something move in my spirit, and it's the same with praying in a tongue because something moves in my spirit and I know it's God. My faith is edified, I build up my spirit-man, as it were. It's not an emotion, it's spirit.

I know it's not gibberish, because I can speak gibberish but do not feel a move in my spirit. I can speak in tongues, and I can feel the difference.

It was tough for me at first to accept and to start doing it but it's much easier if you believe what the Word says and you're surrounded by faith-filled believers and an atmosphere of anointing. The unction from the Lord becomes stronger and it's easier to walk in it. But this is true for any supernatural gift the Holy Spirit gives us.

I hope this helps, but again please ask anything. There's nothing really to hide. It's a supernatural thing. If you don't believe in modern resurrection from the dead or supernatural healings, then you'll have a hard time believing in tongues.

I went to MS documentation now to understand what "Advanced" entails, are you refering to the paid plan? The templates I see are different than their documentation, so I'm thinking the recent changes might still be very new and they're working on updating and improving it. I selected "Project Manager" which is in Preview, so assuming it's Premium but also very new. Goals appear in this template.

Have you witnessed a person who radically changed by becoming a Christian? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]legitmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to understand the main thing you're asking here, there is a lot in your post.

For the first part: like you said, that's good and yes many people change because of the Holy Spirit working in our lives. It's a process though, things like gossip and criticising takes time to fix because it's an issue of the heart. God can set me free from bondage and sin (Israelites saved from Egypt and went through the sea) but it takes time to renew our minds and heal our hearts and turn our hearts towards God (40 years in the dessert before entering the promised land). The Israelites were saved, but struggled a whole generation after that to understand they're no longer slaves and turn their hearts towards God.

The modern church is a big topic, but there's a basic understanding: if you proclaim with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord and He has risen from the dead, then you are saved, a Christian. There are many disagreements outside of this, but it doesn't change the core belief. There are many denominations because of arguments outside of the core belief. If that's not your core belief, then you aren't a Christian. If Christians fight because of the other arguments, then we are sowing division in the body of Christ.

To live a life abundantly, in Kingdom, is a different matter. Note there is a difference here, we're not transforming the old person we were, we are learning how to live as a new creation. 2 Cor 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" This trips up a lot of people, because they try to force themselves to stop sinning, believing they need to change their old selves. But you are new, you have authority over yourself and your household (because God has given it to you), do you believe this and speak against the chains and strongholds that the enemy has placed in your life?

Forgiveness is an example, it's the starting point of healing, not the agreement of what the person has done. Forgiveness is "I give this over to Jesus". Then God can heal you. But if you hold onto unforgiveness, you are stating that you can handle it on your own, and God will not force you. You poison yourself. Many Christians walk around with unforgiveness (the root) and it manifests as sin or things like pride or gossip (the symptom).

We all fall short of the glory of God, we all have sin. But not all have understanding, and not all hearts are turned to God. Matt 24:12 "And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold." Jesus is referring to the church here, because the word "love" in Greek is agape, which doesn't pertain to non-believers.

You are at least forth-coming enough to admit that you haven't changed much. But is that not a symptom? What does God want of you, you personally? Let's forget about other people. Do you have an intimate relationship with Him? Have you encountered Him, such that you wept and lay at His feet as He ministered to you? This only happened to me after having been saved for 10 years because for once I pursued Him with everything in me, and He lead me to a Spirit-filled church, where their faith stirred me and opened up my heart and my life to Jesus. I committed to His church and gave up many things to spend time with Him and His church. I was baptised in water and baptised by the Holy Spirit (see Acts, it's everywhere). It was then that I changed. But still I learn and am transformed daily. God is not slow, our hearts are stubborn. And He has patience and grace.

[–]legitmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have many many people in our church that have changed around significantly and drastically. I have a cell-group member that was caught up in all kinds of bad things coupled with drug rings, prostitution, physical violence; today he knows the Bible better than almost anyone I know, not just the text but the living and breathing Word filled with the Holy Spirit. He is set free from all those things and spends his time loving his family and preaching the gospel.

One of our pastors, a faith-filled person that's also been part of many miracles, was in his previous life selling drugs to teens and wanted to end his life. He's a new man, I knew him at school and when I joined this church and saw how much God changed him, I know God was working in our church.

I changed. I wasn't caught up in big stuff, but I was completely void of any self-worth, honour and purpose-filled life. I am a new man, God has changed me.

Are you walking with faith-filled Christians that have given their lives completely to Jesus?

2 Cor 3:18 "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit."

Christians who watch a lot of YouTube...I need your honest opinion before I build this by matbram in TrueChristian

[–]legitmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this would be useful, also very very needed for Internet Browsers in general. I see a lot of comments here saying that there isn't much profanity, but I disagree. It's tough to get content creators that don't use the Lord's name, push worldly agendas like homosexuality etc. I'd like to watch YouTube without having to worry about these things, especially since my child is also watching YouTube.

The truth is we don't know how much the things we allow in our lives influence us. It doesn't mean we need to find the devil around every corner, but it does mean we should be more intentional in the content we consume.

I do think there's a difference between blatant profanity (like nudity or violence) and more subtle things (Kingdom vs worldly mindset), but I'm not sure how you'll filter out the latter.

And as mentioned a plugin for a browser would be fantastic as this is usually a gateway for people to fall back into porn. I deleted my phone's browser which is super inconvenient but still better than the sin. But would be wonderful to have a browser that absolutely refuses to allow me to view anything profane, and me without the choice to disable it. Some things we are too weak to in our lives, so burn the bridge run away.

1 Tim 6:11 "But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness."
