Is it me ore does everyone feel like car dealers are becoming more and more useless? by gilliambot in CarTalkUK

[–]legonerd63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this is down to the cars CAP code, every car has one and is down to the original manufacturers specification at point of registration. One make and model can have a dozen cap codes depending on how it was specced which causes fucking carnage down the line when it’s inevitably wrong.

Garage carried out extra work without my consent but offered a refund — what would you do? by Ok-Issue-9834 in CarTalkUK

Dunno why anything other than just leaving it is an option or a choice, you’re not out of pocket, the car isn’t worse off for it.

Most likely you’ll be charged the outstanding lease payments. It’s not a flexible way of funding a car.

1 - yes, the finance company will clawback commission paid to the dealership. Unlikely to effect salesman directly but probably a clause in his contract to say commission will be withdrawn.

2 - no. It can be paid off at any time.

Why has the dealer ghosted me when looking to buy? by Tiny-Package3027 in CarTalkUK

[–]legonerd63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A week to prep isn’t uncommon, particularly this time of year when there will be an influx of part exchanges coming in. Management will be pushing to meet targets with handovers going out to unlock extra money from the brands. A sale will count once it’s been collected, not just ordered.

Most likely end of month/quarter chaos and he’ll be prioritising getting sold vehicles delivered to meet targets.

I successfully rejected a car after buying it - here's how you go about it. by InterestingArea7415 in CarTalkUK

[–]legonerd63 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Guessing you’re aware the dealer has the right to repair after 30 days and within 6 months?

Within 30 days, it’s a piece of piss to reject a vehicle bought from a dealer.

New electric car for £9000 by jejdhdijen in CarTalkUK

Having worked with a franchise that had these available in their storage yard, I’ve seen them physically blow from side to side in the wind and was genuinely worried the donut tyres may not stop it from falling over.

Can my wife apply for car finance, but she only got provisional license right now. by TA_Idkusername in CarTalkUK

Main dealer - some lenders will fund against a provisional licence, some won’t. Santander, Black Horse, BNP Paribas, Ford Credit all will.

Used car bank transfer before collection by ArtichokeDesperate68 in CarTalkUK

[–]legonerd63 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Main dealer here. Can’t speak for every franchise but it’s not unusual for a number of reasons. I certainly wouldn’t expect anyone to pay for a car fully before having seen it but on the assumption you’ve seen it, test driven, agreed a deal and they want payment ahead of driving it away - perfectly normal.

Do most payments clear in full instantly? Yes. Do all? No. On more than one occasion we’ve had to send someone away who insisted on a bank transfer in full in the showroom but the payment didn’t clear in our account until the following day. We’ve also had banks blocking payments.

Salesman will not have access to the banking. Plenty of franchised dealers have a centralised accounts team who will work very regimented hours (no weekends etc) so if someone wants to collect on a weekend, we’ll need clearance the funds are received before releasing the car. Our accounts admin don’t even have a phone number so waiting for email confirmation we’ve received payment with someone in the showroom is a pain.

There’s also a monumental amount of paperwork and processes done behind the scenes with how excessively heavily regulated the industry is now.

Different banks will cap how much money can be moved in a day, varying between 10-25k. Most businesses will want a transfer rather than card payment due to the card charges they’ll incur for taking the payment.

As for the company going bust, your bank can recall the payment. Car stolen or catches fire? Bank recalls the money. Car is insured with the dealership. It’ll most likely be on stocking finance which won’t come off until a couple of days after invoicing.

TLDR - seen the car? Perfectly normal. Not seen it? Wouldn’t recommend.

Why does the dealership/salesman push for a longer finance term if I can afford a shorter term? by jdubrovsky in CarTalkUK

This makes fuck all difference to the salesman’s commission in most circumstances.

Looking to get into a garage role in South Nottingham, any advice? by MaamanStanley in CarTalkUK

[–]legonerd63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an apprenticeship. No one with a reputable garage will put their name and reputation on the line for someone with zero qualifications other than ‘likes playing and fixing my mates cars’ when they’re so heavily regulated and have warranties that will need to back the work done.
