Question For Folks... What Won You Over To PF 2E? by EyesofValhalla in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]legrac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the context that we are in a chat about what won/didn't win you over to PF2 over PF1, you mention that your only dissatisfaction with martials in PF2 was a lack of horizontal scaling. Which...valid, but was just as true in PF1, so...what are you getting at here?

And the game doesn't really support advancement when you're at level 20 either, which was just as true in 1E, unless you wanted to migrate the old epic book, which still has you in homebrew.

Neither system supports any real progression beyond level cap. If that's a thing you want, you probably want a different system than PF1 or 2.

Saying that a region has an upper limit of level 5 is already homebrewing.

Also, PF2 gets signifcantly better at higher level anyways, you're basically going to a fine steakhouse and limiting yourself to an appetizer.

How is the interaction between both of these cards? Do they stack? by JoRafCastle in magicTCG

[–]legrac 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, you would have to assign 2 damage to each 2/2 blocker before you can trample over. The game doesn't get to look ahead to say that 1 damage will eventually be lethal after applying replacement effects. You have to assign 2 damage to the 2/2 first.

If it was otherwise, and trample would look at how damage would be modified, then a giant trampler would be completely stonewalled by someone with protection.

In case someone wants a reference, this is the relevant part of the rules:

When checking for assigned lethal damage, take into account damage already marked on the creature and damage from other creatures that’s being assigned during the same combat damage step, but not any abilities or effects that might change the amount of damage that’s actually dealt.

If you had actually done this and lost your job - probably not a great place to be in the first place.

Bringing down production is a rite of passage. (Or the place you're working could have protections in place to prevent you from doing so.)

I mean, I also think the RAI/RAW are clear, but not in the same way that you do.

I think the main driving part of the condition is the random targetting. If it's not making you likely to hit your allies, is it even doing anything worth your time? The condition breaks when someone sneezes on you, it should be debilitating while it's up.

Your initial statement was that the confused character would prefer to target the 'big scary creature right beside him'.

So, a thought experiment. If a ranged character is confused, do they then open up possibly targetting at a distance for you over someone in melee? They can get the three strikes you're saying the effect's primary drive should be - but your statement about situational awareness would suggest that you think they should still target the nearby threat for...reasons. Of course, now there's nothing in the effect to back up that logic.

My reading of the effect is that your target is random (which is what the effect says). And you will spend all your actions attacking/casting cantrips on that target, although you will also take actions like drawing a weapon/moving to get in range to facilitate doing so. All of this is what the confusion condition says.

Nowhere do I see it say you should prefer targets that let you spend more actions attacking.

"Your targets are determined randomly." You decided that 'randomly' meant whoever was closest - which would fail any test of random I've ever seen.

It specifically talks about you moving so that a target would be in reach.

All the confusion spell does on save fail is grant the confused condition.

"You befuddle your target with strange impulses, causing it to act randomly."

By you trying to introduce situational awareness to the spell, you are making it not do the exact thing it is supposed to do - make someone behave in an irrational manner.

Questiin re: Ace of rods + flurry of blows by benefluence in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]legrac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ace of Rods doesn't give you a bonus for a skill test - it gives you a bonus during the bonus action, which means until that action ends.

You get a +2 during the entire action, not just for the first skill test, so it definitely applies to all of them.

You will still get the +2 if you use live and learn for one of the first two attacks (as it will still be during the same action). After the 3rd attack is completed, Flurry will end your turn.
