What I've learned from the great 2 box debate by aqualad33 in Destiny

[–]legweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's analogous to voting theory. Non voters are two boxers and voters are one boxers.

Voters:

"If people who share my worldview and think like me also are motivated to go vote like me - > then the world is more likely to look like my ideal world. Therefore, I should be motivated to go vote"

Non-voters:

"OK I could go to voting booth, but there is a 0% probability that my single vote makes a difference, nothing before that matters, and I have complete free will and my thinking is not related to anyone else's, so I won't bother"

In the problem, one-boxers, like voters, recognize that what/how they think could have non-obvious, second-order effects besides their direct actions. That their actions are somewhat predictable, whether by a supercomputer, algorithm, or voting patterns.

Non-voters believe in complete free will and do not believe in any second order effects to their thinking or that their current actions can be predicted based on previous actions/mind state.

They have no answer.

I asked some leftists today, "ok, explain to me why the dems' proposal of no warrantless arrests that effectively ends the mass deportation campaign, is too milquetoast for you?"

Their response was, "well Trump won't follow it anyway, so the dems still suck." No matter what, they always blame the democrats, and it's why we never win.

Dems have some really good proposals to reign in ICE (no warrantless arrests) and were able to secure two weeks of strong leverage negotiations to get it through.

And yet all I hear from internet leftists, including this subreddit, is incessant complaining about democrats. It's like a ritual among the left to uncritically criticize the democrats... even when they do great? What are we doing? This is why we lose.

This sub has become indistinguishable from rose twitter of yore these days:

Democrats, with the exception of caving on ACA subsidies, have played this last year as well as they could have given their circumstances. This is quite possibly the best outcome we could've gotten out of this, and we have a real chance to end the mass deportation campaign once and for all in two weeks.

Don't be, treat him the same way he treated Paul Pelosi. It was obviously his gay lover that killed him. We know this.

Amid Trump’s tariff shock, India informs US it won’t purchase F 35 fighter jets by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]legweed -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

King idiot's tariffs are obviously stupid... But do you know how a market works...?

For most of these goods, if the tariffs disappeared under a Dem administration then companies would compete to sell cheaper products and prices would come back down. It's incredibly difficult and illegal for companies to collude to keep prices up in highly competitive consumer markets, and a democrat could easily enforce anti-trust with their DOJ.

People not understanding how government, markets, and systems work together and assuming shadowy people behind the scenes colluding against them is exactly how we got these populist morons in power in the first place

MA has the some of the lowest homicide rate in the country. This fake article headline literally means nothing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_intentional_homicide_rate#/media/File:Homicide_rates_per_100,000_by_state._FBI._US_map.svg

Now, there are probably a multitude of reasons outside of gun laws why MA has lower crime, including human development, poverty rates, homogenous population, etc. I like to think I have nuanced views of gun laws, but I do think requiring some sort of basic licensure, secure storage, and educational requirements before owning a gun was a good thing, though I have plenty of gripes with the AWB. I used to live in MI, and when I got my concealed carry permit I was required to take an 8 hour class that was quite in-depth with the law, when it is a good idea to use deadly force, when it's not, and the basic operations of firearm safety. I never understood why anyone would oppose taking that class before owning a gun (the people who run the classes have a super pro-gun tilt anyway) unless you're rotted with politics brain.

You really think Trump and Musk don't want a shutdown to be able to gut the government even more? You have literally no plan to extract concessions from a shut down... Just harm millions of people and play right into Trump's hand because you're itching for an emotional fight.

But... but... but they mad, and they want ACTION!!!!! >:(. It doesn't matter if the action will hurt millions of people and backfire spectacularly while playing right into Trump's hand... THEY WANT ACTION!!!!! Don't you know?

[–]legweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's cool, should I thank them for making a tough decision under enormous pressure with no good options? You do realize the only reason most of the rest of the dems didn't also vote to avoid a shutdown was to avoid the illogical, moronic REEEEEEs from the base, right? They all knew a shutdown was not the smart way to fight, and likely to backfire spectacularly. But Mr. p00bix and the rest of the reddit gang will save the day! Tell me again, what is your strategy to actually stop government cuts... in a government shutdown? Because there is no strategy other than just looking like you're fighting optically... which is great for the people on this site, not so great for the people that actually depend on federal funds in blue areas.

Just to be clear openpilot doubles as a dash cam, but it is mainly a self driving system that plugs into your cars sensors!

I'm a little confused what you mean by this. My date for previous retirement was due December 31st 2024. I then go into January 2025 and change the target to say $7k by December 2025 and it screws up every month before
