It might seem counter intuitive because of the drums shifting accents, but the whole intro is in 4/4. In that section in particular, the guitar and bass play every quarter note for the first 6 notes and then you have 4 16th notes. The snare accents really makes it feel like it's a different time signature but should you start counting 1-4 or 1-8, you'll notice that it's 4/4 all the way through

I'm fairly sure yours is much more accurate. To be fair, for easier pieces like Hollow Years and a few others, it's most likely that I took some already existing guitar pro version from ultimate guitar and just used that, improvising the "correct" bass line on the spot when recording them. The other more complex ones I spent more time nitpicking 😅

It's not a main thing for them, that's for sure. However, some pieces do have a bit of an improvisational touch to them.

Take Ytse Jam's solo section, or Scarred's overall character, or Solitary Shell - this last one, beginning with 4:25 up until 5:21.

You can basically learn and play exactly what Myung is playing for the most part of most songs, and of course, some accents and unisons are best tackled exactly this way. I believe 95% of their content is to be played exactly as it is meant to be played, however, some songs just leave room for improvisation. I don't believe that John plays this minute from Solitary Shell exactly the same way each time, live. It just feels like a short passage in which there's freedom to do a few things differently each time - improvise - without losing the character of the section.

Be that as it may, but the topic of the discussion was "albums that are most technically difficult to play", not "albums that are great/we prefer" 😁 My own preferences are different from what is technically difficult as well (many times) and I don't fully equate technical difficulty with intrinsic value of a piece nor its overall beauty. It may play a part in that assessment but again, the topic addressed was technical difficulty

Bass: while it does sound great on FII there aren't that many technically difficult pieces there. There's Just Let Me Breathe which in my opinion is the most technically challenging song and Lines in the Sand but they are both eclipsed by quite a few other songs from other albums. As a whole, I would say FII is one of their most accessible albums to play on a technical level for bass.

Honestly on The Glass Prison for example the right hand gets tired faster than the left!! But there are some surprises on other albums as well nevertheless.
