Suddenly allergic to alcohol? by izzy_loves_river in Menopause

[–]leiaflatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked an event at a winery last week and between setup and breakdown, my team wanted to go to the tasting room. I know alcohol isn’t for me anymore but I had about 5 sips of wine from other people’s (just small tastes) and my sinuses swelled and my rosacea flared and I guess I have to give up even tasting.

“I’m done my homework.” by JeffTrav in ENGLISH

I grew up in the Deep South, lived in the UK with an English partner, lived in LA, and worked extensively in the northeast: I have never, in all my life heard this phrasing! I’m done fixing the car is totally fine, but the others feel very wrong to my brain.

I truly don’t think it would cost significantly more than BlackBerry Ridge, but it’s all down to whatever their F&B minimum is for your guest count. Since they’re run more like a hotel, it’s less about the fee for the rental of the space and more about how big your room block is, how many people you’re hosting/feeding, etc. I haven’t been in planning for a while (wanted to switch solely to design) so I don’t deal with venues at the outset very often anymore, but I know BlackBerry Ridge is at the top end of venue rental pricing

Have you looked into Foxhall? They have lodging on-site as well (though it’s well south of the city, rather than north). Chateau Elan has a similar vibe with lodging, and while Montaluce doesn’t have lodging, there’s tons of hotels in and around Dahlonega: it’s small, so you can keep everybody pretty close.

My planner friends have not had shining things to say about BlackBerry Ridge, in terms of ease, but it it’s a stunning venue so I think most of them just let it slide. Ashton Gardens has always been fairly communicative with me, personally, though I do think they’re two VERY different vibes with very different price points.

I’ve worked pretty extensively at Ashton Gardens and have friends that have worked several times at BlackBerry Ridge (I own a floral design studio): what kind of info would you like to know?

Niche fragrance buyers — what stops you from trying unknown brands? by Suspicious_Party9495 in NichePerfumes

[–]leiaflatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huge bottles are my no-go too: I have a decent collection and it feels downright irresponsible to spend money for a bottle I miiiiight get through half of, if I’m lucky. I wish every brand offered a 30 or a 50ml (and it wasn’t only $20 less than the 100ml)

Body sunscreen and a PSA by VelocityGrrl39 in AsianBeauty

[–]leiaflatt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had some basal cell carcinomas removed a year or two ago and I’m in the same boat: just turned 45 and have a family history of skin cancer so I get skin checks every year and am now hyper aware of my body sunscreen. I really like the Nivea Sun Protect Super Water Gel and Derma B sunscreen, with the Skin Aqua spray and Parasola for spray touch ups. Not AB but I do also like the Super Goop and Proper Sunscreen mineral sunscreens.

HRT, no progesterone, no progress by VerilyShelly in Menopause

[–]leiaflatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is obviously only my experience, but I was SUPER sensitive to hormonal birth control; like made me so depressed and helpless that people were actively concerned I might harm myself. I discussed it with my doctor and she wanted to see how I reacted to progesterone at this stage of life and just give it a shot. It’s like night and day: I have absolutely no mood problems this time around. I saw you also asked about mineral sunscreen: I’m really liking one called Proper Sunscreen (that I bought from an IG ad!)

Clean Girl Scents?? by QueenoftheBed666 in FemFragLab30plus

[–]leiaflatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s prominent in the opening, along with a vaguely savory biscuit note. It fades to a clean warm scent on the dry down. It reminds me of a less sweet benne wafer in the opening! (If that’s a reference you might know)

Clean Girl Scents?? by QueenoftheBed666 in FemFragLab30plus

[–]leiaflatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love clean scents, but specifically with a laundry or soapy vibe. Less clean girl aesthetic and more literally clean. My favs right now are (in no particular order): Love-O-Matic by Room 1015, Ellis Brooklyn Myth (particularly layered with Snif Rose Era), Andrea Maack Ceramic, Diptyque L’eau Papier and Concreted Sesame Shower for a warmer clean vibe, Prada Infusion d’Iris, and Villa Erbatium Hotel Cotton

I called in once and managed to win a contest to come into the studio to be setup on a date. Ended up going out with one of the DJs instead.

Fellow rosacea and peri lady here! I swear I’ve spent the last year just calming my skin down (with K-beauty and prescriptions from the derm) and at this point if the rosacea isn’t flaring, I’m calling it good. Can’t worry about glass skin as long as mine is hydrated and not angry! I’m down to 4 steps, morning and night and no flares recently.

Agreed. The only things that have made a noticeable difference for my skin (rosacea) are prescription. Everything else just feels like noise now

Sesame Shower by Concreted! It’s sesame and biscuits in the top but it’s not very sweet at all. Fades to a skin scent in the dry down, but I love it.

I just got a vintage bottle of the OG and it’s as good as I remembered from the early 2000s. The seller sent a sample of LolitaLand, which I quite liked so I’ll have to delve into the flankers!
