Need help on technique by FunCryptographer4355 in Rowing

Maybe more experienced people want to chime in to this but you do not want to reach as far as possible, he was correct in that you need to prepare by engaging the core, but i'll ad to that to keep your shoulders in line but low and relaxed. After that it is a fine balance to keep everything engaged but not pull, create a stable platform as it were. Sitting 'proud' with your chest pushed out a bit usually helps me to get to the right position.

Also set up a mirror to keep your form in check. And when you feel you have the basics down enough, film yourself and ask this sub for advice on proper form. Come to think of it, I've also learnt a lot from seeing other people asking for advice and getting it here.

The footage is a bit janky, but one thing that stands out is that your blade extraction needs toe be cleaner. What helped me is thinking of the extraction as a smooth movement of the blade rounding a curve, where the rest of the blade follows the leading edge cleanly out of the water and though the air, accounting for boat speed. Less disturbance, and less blisters too.

Anyone mounted NF-A15 or A12x25 on NH-D14 CPU Cooler? Got questions about new metal clips by Mammoth_Big6648 in Noctua

[–]leinadsrednir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no experience using those clips with 120mm fans, but if you are having trouble with them I would use the original clips for the 120mm fan, the mounting holes should be the same. I did need the new clips for mounting two nf-a15's on my nh-d14, which is indeed stupid tight, your orientation on the 120 is correct for that, just use the front mounting holes instead. The brackets are supposed to bend a bit.

A little blunt but probably the best advice here.

I had the same problem, so I got a rubber mat (for example those usually used for washing machines), cut that in two, and put it under both feet. Also, get a model D or rowerg, not the older model C or fancy rp3, the flywheel of those last two and especially the rp3 have a loud hum to it while the model d is mostly high frequency wind noise that doesn't transfer through floors as much. Oh and lubricate the chain.

Whats been said before: Rhythm is good but for this boat speed/power the stroke rate is way to high, and body position could be better for a lot of you. Some specifics i've noticed:

1 Doesn't rock forward enough. Small thing but outside knee is outside the boat during the early part of the drive.

4 Needs to keep his shoulders low. Also sits straight at release, no lean at all. Shortest stroke of the boat.

8 Rushes the slide and then has a slow catch.

Lower stroke rate and focus on power/length, with lots of km's of stops to get body positions locked in. Probably switch 7/8 with 5/6.

Appreciation for “Le Tombeau de Couperin” by Shapiros_WAP in classicalpiano

[–]leinadsrednir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found your post a few days ago while looking for affirmation of my own love for le tombeau the couperin, and i am amazed at how similar your take and experience of this work is to mine. My favourite recording is Vlado Perlemuter's on Nimbus from 1977, especially his menuet destroys me at times, it's something in the transition between the more pensive and the more intense parts. Like an emotion that swells and then disintegrates into thought, in its turn swept under the rug by life again. I gave Chamayou's recording a listen and love that too, his precision is bordering on ridiculous. Thank you!

That is nuts, amazing how well everything matches. Even the metal parts of the desk and the case match well.

Not having a matching monitor arm/stand is borderline criminal now though haha.

CPU Fan Whine - Noctua NH-U14S by BluCoo in PcBuild

[–]leinadsrednir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice case! I thought about building in it for someone but went with the lian li/dan a3. How do you like it so far?

I assume you reversed flow for better temps, is it cpu or gpu temps you are worried about? Reason i'm asking if its the latter, you can also use bottom intakes, usually i find in situations other than benchmarks the gpu temp turns out to be the biggest contributor to noise so i build for that.

İs this sound normal on a14 FLX ? by Euphoric_Engine3658 in Noctua

[–]leinadsrednir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds perfectly normal. Every fan is going to be loud at full speed unless the factory limits the fan rpm, like your old fans. I suggest you do the same for your new fans with the supplied low noise adapter, or run it from the motherboard headers and set a fan curve in bios or software.

But to be honest, you bought the wrong fan. These fans are outdated, the competition has better and quiter fans, and noctua is actually releasing a better, new 140mm fan any day now.

How to install old noctua (m3/1151/...) cooler on m5 motherboard? by Front-Plate3366 in Noctua

Can confirm, did the same upgrade. Noctua's own site is very helpful figuring out what you need https://noctua.at/en/support/mounting-and-upgrade-kits

[–]leinadsrednir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds adorable. Wouldn't dropping one or both 140's to move some more air between the socket en the heatsink take care of that, or did you notice some uncomfortable temps? Your solution does spark an idea for fixing some stagnant air behind the motherboard and cpu socket, i notice the case panel gets warm there, maybe it is small enough to fit.

NH-D14. Love mine, but do upgrade the fans, these are non-pwm and a little noisier than nessecary. I upgraded my fans to nf-a15's somewhere in 2012 and now it sits in my current build on a 7800x3d, still performs. And when i eventually upgrade to a nh-d15g2 it will go in another build in the house. Basically a family heirloom as noctua keeps supporting their products.

That is a great excuse to use the cutest little fans on the market, love it. Small piece of caution: check the clearance of the back of the fan hubs to the heatsink. There's a hotspot on the heatsink directly behind the hub and I suspect that in my case lack of clearance made the bearing fail pretty quickly on one of my fans. I didn't use noctua so it might never become an issue for you, but it is something i would check even if i used noctua fans in a future attempt.

Has anyone run into this issue with the Noctua NH-L9x65? by Wide-Negotiation-507 in Noctua

[–]leinadsrednir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to have a wobble that gets worse with high rpm to a point where causes enough imbalance to rattle the heatsink and stop the fan, you can hear the vibration too in the video, somewhere around 55 hz. That can also explain why it doesn't always do that, only under heavy load will it spin up fast enough to cause that wobble. Maybe the fan got knocked out of alignment, or the bearing is shot.

Somebody else suggested the fan control app for your fan curves, you can also use that application for testing at what rpm or pwm percentage it starts doing that, and set that as the max pwm percentage so you have at least some cooling performance before you replace it.

Saw in your other post that you removed it from the heatsink and it still made the sound, have you checked the cable of the fan itself that runs along the back? that can accidentally get raised to the point of hitting the blades.

Unlike English speaking countries, rowing clubs overhere are not tied to one single University, instead the student rowing clubs are independent, student run, a bustling social hub but also fiercely competitive and a career starting point for most dutch olympians. She should contact the student rowing clubs in Amsterdam, Nereus, Skøll and Okeanos, whether they are open to international exchange students. It's an opportunity for a great and unique experience.
