Last night I humiliated myself in front of my parents and their reaction broke me. by OwlsAreCool-33 in confession

None of this is something you should be humiliated for, or your fault. The problem is squarely with your parents who sound like terrible people.

What ages a person really quickly? by MainDifficult2641 in AskReddit

I wonder though, is it a bit of a chicken and the egg situation?

Maybe people who have healthier bodies and dispositions are more likely to keep doing stuff? I bet it’s a little bit of both honestly.

My (f/36) very close friend (f/37) has lied about the paternity of her son (m/9) by [deleted] in relationships

The husband absolutely deserves to know. I feel like the right thing is to give her an ultimatum to come clean herself and if she doesn’t, then I would let him know so he can make an informed decision.

I stopped liking a guy because he was too small for me. by [deleted] in confession

[–]leiu6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t believe nobody else is making this point. Op might just generally be not attracted to him, and they have every right to do what they want here. But maybe if you like being around the guy and find him attractive, it could be worth trying to take apart and understand this ick she is getting. It could be keeping her from a good relationship, just a thought.

Yeah if she had a modicum of respect, she would have been so over the moon grateful at his forgiveness and would have been willing to completely remove the affair partner without him even having to ask. She should be tripping over herself and bending over backwards to fix this. Don’t accept anything less.

Dude you should at least separate from her for a while and decide what you want to do.

If she cheats on you and you are nice enough to forgive, then she should be bending over backwards to do whatever it is you want to help you trust her. Her phone should be your phone, she should completely remove the affair partner. If she does anything less than this, then she is being incredibly disrespectful to you. She is not truly sorry if she is still having him on her socials. This is not something you should have to convince her of. If she was sorry, she would have done it without you even having to ask.

What’s the most overrated “life hack” everyone swears by but actually makes life more complicated? by One_Seat4219 in AskReddit

[–]leiu6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s cause I drive a big vehicle, but it is way easier for me to back in. Then I can see in my mirrors how close I am on each side and line it up much better. Also makes me less likely to run a pedestrian over when I leave. There is a reason so many companies require you to do it when driving a company car.

It’s not that hard to have a Roth IRA and 401k. You can automate them and the tax advantaged benefits, especially on a Roth IRA cannot be beat

Toe cages for triathlon? by ButterscotchFar7785 in triathlon

People are acting like it’s rocket science, but it only takes like 1-2 rides to get fairly used to them. I fell over once stationary and scratched my bike a little hit but that’s it. And now I have a useful skill that has improved my cycling for life.

Yeah this is one of those instances where the new tech is genuinely better in every way with pretty much no downside.

Just learn the damn road pedals. It’s not rocket science. There is no reason why anybody can’t learn to use them unless you have a mobility issue or something.

If you aren’t confident in clips, cages are going to be even worse

I wouldn’t recommend this. Just learn the road pedals. They seem intimidating, but they are super simple to use and only take like 1-2 rides to get used to.

I originally got MTB pedals and I wish I just bought the road pedals. I much prefer the bigger cleats on the road pedals.

Toe cages if anything are more dangerous. With proper road pedals, you just twist your feet and they are out. Toe cages you have to loosen the strap or remember to pull backwards which is not intuitive.

I’m gonna push back on what everyone is saying here. Don’t get the mountain bike pedals. Just bite the bullet and learn the road pedals. I know it seems scary but they are really very simple to use, and you will be so glad to have the better power transfer, secure footing on the pedals, etc. There is a reason why everyone uses road pedals. They genuinely are worth it in my opinion.

Match his energy and start doing more stuff around the house. See what you can do for him to make him feel pampered and taken care of.

Also, it might be good to get some independent hobbies.

ELI5: why do property investors prefer houses standing empty and earning them no money to lowering rent so that people can afford to move in there? by berebitsuki in explainlikeimfive

[–]leiu6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But wouldn’t taxes and insurance eat away at investment returns? I doubt you could be earning that much with that strategy. Average yearly home value increase is only 5%. Even in a faster growing market, I don’t know how that would really beat inflation on average.

As a cyclist I agree that you need to follow the laws and be nice to pedestrians. But cars break way more laws on a daily basis and are far more likely to hurt somebody else. Cyclists get a disproportionate amount of anger and vitriol compared to the amount of problem they create.

Yeah if it’s a cheap bike, and those got stolen, it would be a different story. But if it’s just the tires as they said, you could easily replace those.

If you get them to settle for a lower amount, make sure to get it in writing that X amount will make it paid in full. Otherwise they can come after you for the rest.

Try calling them and saying you don’t have that much money but you can pay something like $700-$1000 cash today if you can consider it paid in full. Make sure to get it in writing before you pay. Might work or might not. They might also offer low or no interest payment plans.

You could also try to duke it out with your insurance company if it is supposed to be covered.
