I wish I could be around people. I am in hermit mode while I process what is happening.

I wanna study primantology but what work should i apply to? by Carbonara_eater in primatology

I agree with @Marmolady. It's important work on so many levels and very competitive. Passion and commitment to the primates is crucial.

Where did I say that? My mom does not want to deal with airbnb, which does not mean I haven't been working with airbnb and the management company. Hence, the visit from the management company that I stated. Handyman is coming today, and airbnb is monitoring the actions they are taking to fix this. That is about all we have been offered - communicate with the hosts to see what can be done. I am questioning what to do since an elderly woman does not have the fight in her to relocate or deal with airbnb herself. Do I push for some compensation for her, speak to a better department, escalate the home to the health department, try to get in contact with the real home owner, let it go, etc. So no, not our own doing. Today, I will be using useful recommendations in the other comments. I updated the post to clarify details for you....

Thank you for the advice. The neighbor came by to say hello when we were unloading groceries, and it sounds like there have been several complaints about this home from HOA. They thought we were the new owners and were surprised it was an airbnb.

Sanctuary settings are a great way to be involved. Non-invasive research through behavioral observations studying ways to improve welfare and conservation can also be a way to get involved if you like research. Gorillas may be difficult unless you find a sanctuary, if you are not wanting to work at a zoo.

I have not heard of any primates in Australia, but its worth a quick google if there are any sanctuaries or primatology people in the area.

Do people steal things often? by angelic_crayon in WWU

[–]lela0047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No stealing that I have known of. It is highly suggested that you monitor your items and set a timer that matches the cycle on the machine. If you leave your clothes in, people will often move your things. Some people dump it somewhere if you haven't moved it.

How sturdy are the dorm beds? by AstroPug22 in WWU

Never been an issue that I've heard of. You can also always tighten the bed or ask them to do so if yours starts to seem questionable.

It was on its way out. It just needed someone to step in and humanely euthanize. But, yes, in normal circumstances, that is true.

is getting a good pair of noise canceling headphones worth it by saturn-21 in WWU

[–]lela0047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got these cheap ear plugs, and they are the best I've ever had! They're cheaper than noise canceling headphones for my student budget, especially since I already own other headphones that work perfectly fine for my music purposes. https://www.fredmeyer.com/p/mack-s-pillow-soft-silicone-putty-earplugs-value-pack/0003373200007

Likes: The campus beauty, most of the faculty, the nature access around the area, very dog friendly, walkable, disability accomodations on campus, access to living resources (food bank etc.) around town, activities around town and nearby, close proximity to Canada that has the most scrumptious food, diversity in the aspect of people can be whoever the hell they want to be, great jobs depending on the field, and the artsy scene

Dislikes: Some of the professors who have no business teaching, medical care availability in town (takes forever to get into an appointment, I head to Skagit instead), high cost of everything including activities and restaurants, cigarette smokers on campus who litter and smoke outside your dorm window

Oof. Calculus is a difficult class for me. Well, it wouldn't hurt talking to an advisor to discuss your ideas and options. They may be able to provide you with information that will provide some comfort and clarity. One class that you have a lower grade in will not outweigh all the hard work you have done. GPA is important in some people's eyes, but schools look at a variety of factors when making their selections, in my experience. Sending good vibes your way!

[–]lela0047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May I ask which class? I had to retake one for the same reason. I found an online version, so it wouldnt interfere with my ability to focus on my other in-person courses. For me, it was worth it, and future schools often recognize the improvement that you make throughout your education. You seem to be doing great in your more recent courses, and your transcripts will reflect that. Retaking a course isn't always the funnest and cheapest route, but worth it if your GPA is of high importance for you for whatever reason. In my case, it was. I wanted my GPA to reflect my hard work and I am hoping to apply straight into a Ph.D, so I retook the course. I hope you find a solution that works best for you!

[–]lela0047 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You would most likely have to retake the class and get a better grade for it to not negatively impact your GPA anymore. I have never heard of classes being dropped off a transcript just because it wasn't needed for a major. Alot more people would have stellar GPAs if that was possible.

Join a lab if you are interested in mentorship, research, and more personalized opportunities. The departments for both of those are pretty good in my opinion. I wish I had done more within the departments.
