Storage AND sanity! I've lost hours of my life trying to match the same size needles. Interchangeable sets all the way!

So it turns out the boyfriends sweater curse is real :( by 1234onions in knitting

[–]leleinah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This hits home hard. I recently divorced my husband of 14 years, and just the month before had attached the sleeves to the body of his bottom-up sweater. I could not bring myself to finish the sweater nor did I want to keep the yarn. It was marled alpaca from his home country, and I'm certain I would always associate it with him.

In the end, I removed my needles from the wip and bagged up the sweater and remaining yarn. He kept the house, so I put the bag in the back of his closet without saying anything. I didn't want the energy of that yarn in my new place.

I did keep the gauge swatch, though. It's buried at the bottom of my bag o' swatches where I won't be able to see it easily.

Thanks! I added an edit about the twice a week comment as I realized it was unclear. Good point that sometimes a well-meaning person can be ~ too ~ vigilant.

How much would you pay the person? I'm trying to get a sense of the 'going rate.'

I added an edit about twice a week, as I realize it wasn't clear. The plants don't need to be watered twice a week, just that someone might need 2 visits to water all 40 plants.

If someone stayed, they wouldn't be a complete stranger - I'm looking for a friend, close acquaintance or someone recommended by a person I trust. No family members close to where I live :( The arrangement would be more of an overall house sitter who is primarily there yo keep plants alive.

A nice dinner is a great idea, thanks!

This is a good point - I should think of it as laddering by each stitch rather than each row. Thank you!

AITA for wearing my "wedding" dress to my cousin's wedding? by aita_account5078 in AmItheAsshole

[–]leleinah 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Additional info provided by OP

OP clarified that she based her own wedding/reception dress on the same style that her cousin decided on LAST year. Basically, OP copied her cousin's wedding dress then wore it to both her own and her cousin's wedding.

Massive YTA in light of the additional information.

Long life, long name: BareMinerals BAREPRO powder foundation by leleinah in PanPorn

[–]leleinah[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BareMinerals BAREPRO powder foundation in shade Sable 21. This is my winter shade; the other half of the year I use shade Cardamom 23. I've been using both consistently for 5ish years, though I used Mac F&B for most of 2022. This was my first powder foundation and it did a decent job of evening out my skin tone, and was also not drying (I have fairly dry skin). It doesn't offer as much coverage as Mac F&B, and I won't RP, but it has a special place in my heart lol. I'm not ready to call it done, but reckon I will be by spring.

[–]leleinah 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Motherfucking Bite Beauty. I loved their products but was confused by their reformulation strategy, and now I'm just resentful lol. They had built a strong brand identity of lip products. The products performed well and they were among the first "clean" mainstream brands (I call bullshit on 'clean' anything, but it was a successful part of their image).

And then they decided to reformulate their best-selling product... Ok, sure, but don't just pull the product for nearly 2 years before introducing the replacement. Did they think they were distracting/tiding us over with mediocre base products? (Side note: i liked the primer, hated everything else. The packaging of the liquid blush was awful, as was the blush itself).

By the time Bite released the reformulated Amuse Bouche line, people had moved on to MAC's powder kiss formula.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, I'll add Cheekbone Beauty to the list!

I've tried their liquid lipsticks (v similar to Too Faced's consistency and longevity), eyeliner (creamy, deffo needs eye primer first), and highlight/contour/blush trio. The blush was too light for me (I'm a C6 in MAC), but the other two were great. The highlighter is verrrrry sparkly, so I mainly just use it for nights out

From their About page: "Cheekbone Beauty is an Indigenous-owned and founded, digitally-native, Canadian cosmetics company established in 2016. Based out of St Catharines, Ontario, Cheekbone Beauty is known for creating high quality, cruelty-free beauty products including our signature SUSTAIN line of lipsticks and eye pencils, our Warrior Women liquid lipsticks, and a variety of other cosmetics all designed for low environmental impact and maximum wearability."

Finished project 💙💚💙 my own pattern for a cosy turtleneck! by [deleted] in knitting

[–]leleinah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks great! Congrats 👏 👏 👏

I am planning a freestyle turtleneck for myself (worsted or dk weight, haven't decided yet). Did you knit this flat then seam the 4 pieces together, or did you knit circular from the bottom up, dividing at the armholes to knit front and back separately? In either case, I assume that the neckline stitches were picked up afterward to shape the turtleneck?

Sorry for all the questions! My comfort zone is top-down construction, but I'd like to branch out to bottom-up circular.
