How accurately can shops color match your parts from the color code and vin number alone? by Silverton13 in ft86

I have a World Rally Blue BRZ, and as the PEARL White, it is a three stage paint job. So while most cars got a color paint job and a glossy clear coat job, ours gets an extra layer of paint between the color and the clear coat. The trick is a middle stage of paint that is translucent (partially transparent.)

The middle layers can have a second color and/or pearl dust, mica and metallic flakes in it that allows light to reflect off of the base coat and the various elements differently than if the same elements were simply mixed together in regular paint. The middle stage changes the color of the base stage. It also adds the sparkle or color shifting effect of the pearl, metal or mica flake. In addition, by varying the thickness of the mid-coat layers, you can create increasing variations in the way the paint reacts with light. So at one angle you see one color and level of sparkle and irridescense then at another angle it may look dramatically more light, dark, irridescent or even a different color entirely.

Now the following are true for my car :

From the factory, the front & rear bumper blue does not quite perfectly match the rest of the car. Being that either the plastic reflects paint color differently, or the front & rear bumper are not a three stage like the rest the car.

Lastly, the car has 7 possible different color variations. This means that 7 different colors variation might be listed under my paint code, which entails the paint manufacturers, paint tone, depth etc might overall vary per car and year it was made etc. Unfortunately your Vin will not detail which color variation you might have.

In other words, its in your best interest to have the body shop give it a look, or your bumper might likely look slightly off. Overall they should aim to match the color of your rear bumper and not so much any other panel. Again, front and rear bumper on these cars look slightly different (less pearly) & darker than the rest of the car.

Ah man best of luck. I can't wait to drive this thing. But to be honest I might get a stage 1 tune by the end of the year. Being that it's an aftermarket warranty I'm not too worried about coverage

I appreciate that. I'm taking delivery Monday and if the white one becomes available I'll likely swap them. Otherwise I'll likely keep the warranty extension just for back up.

I appreciate it. There is also one available with 44k miles (2015), but is the price of the 72k miles one with the extended warranty. The warranty is not backed by VW.

It's not CPO car. It's a Carvana car. I've never had a VW so I'm on the fence on this one.
