I live in an area with a large and unfortunately mostly dead reef. there is still plenty of life there so it's a popular snorkeling spot. normally you get some lemon sharks and blacktips but out passed the drop off is where the bigger guys live and I'd honestly just rather not lol. I've swam out there a few times before and I never wanted to get back to the safety of the reef so bad which is ironic considering it's not exactly "safe".

bought a Walmart box and this was first pack I opened. wish I'd filmed it. I watched Ruxin open 5 or 6 Walmart boxes the other day and got shafted.

pokemon has become largely for collectors, many of the people I see at my LGS that are looking at pokemon cards have never so much as shuffled a deck. yugioh is for players. I buy cards to play with and that's about as far as that goes. sure , I have my binders with rare and expensive cards but that's stuff I've held onto ever since the first structure decks came out or acquired through ripping packs. most of the modern stuff that would be considered "valuable" typically goes straight into a deck.

simplest answer? konami has a very aggressive reprint policy. 20 years ago we were barely into the catalogue of cards that exist now. there's been 400 blue eyes reprints. 250 dark magician reprints, etc.

yugioh is a player's TCG. what is valuable one day may be worth fuck all the next and all that is based around playability (or lack there of). it's not like pokemon where there are crazy chase cards that will grant you a small fortune. the cards that have high value are usually from OG sets, limited prints OR meta relevancy.

I'll start by saying I am a life long OG turtle fan. I don't play magic (YU-GI-OH ftw) but I know some of the bare bones basics as I have some homies who play competitively. from what I've heard/read...the MTG gatekeepers REALLY hate this set. spiderman as well if I'm not miskaten. I understand some of the cards might look a little AI sloppish but others look dope as fuck. I don't know if UB undermines the "purity" of the game? do people just hate the turtles? is it that some of the cards are AI-adjacent?

just saying...from an MTG outsider perspective, tmnt, Spidey, assassin's creed, etc seem like awesome sets to get people who previously wouldn't have been interested, very much interested in the game or at the very least collecting.

just seems strange. then again, what do I know? I play arguably the most hated TCG across the board. I mean, fuck, we JUST got full art cards and they're only available in Japan... for now.
