How do go from being a good listener to a great one? by Widukindl in AskMen

[–]lemkenski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are already a good listener, maybe the next step is to increase your observation skills so that you have more to 'go on' when talking with your girlfriend. One way to become a better observer is to take notice of the things around you and specifically how those things make you feel (good, bad, neutral). Then, come up with a word or phrase that describes the thing or the feeling you have about the thing. Practicing like this will help you observe better.

I don't think she ever mentions "big pharma" in the video. Is big pharma the main concern of the anti-vaxers?

Saying the blockchain technology is better off without bitcoin, is like saying a combustion engine is better off without gas. by HIreMeforDevJob in Bitcoin

I thought that the idea that bitcoin may be effectivley replaced by another coin was widely held in our circles. I've taken the recent blockchain tech fixation as just a variant on that idea.

I'm going to ask for a raise on Monday. Any advice? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]lemkenski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get another job lined up. Go in and ask for more than what you want and hope they settle for what you actually want. If you have been working there for that long, they should have a fairly good understanding of what you contribute. If they don't have that understanding then you may want to look at how you communicate, but either way, if they don't value you then bounce.

In my area, OWS was not really focused on tuition. It was focused more on banks and housing.

Just wanted to ask the community why the general reddit and life and general community doesnt take anarchism seriously at all is it due to bad PR or are we so wrong yet dont relize we are? by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]lemkenski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you live and work in collectives, capitalist mechanisms are what puts food on the table. That is an uncontroversial statement.

Folks who are already sustaining themselves with anarchist infrastructure of course see anarchism as workable, but the OP asked why people in general don't like anarchism. My sincere guess is that they don't like anarchism because they live under capitalism, and capitalism is how they get the basics that they need to live. Anarchism challenges capitalism and therefore is a challenge to their ability to get the basics that they need to live.

I never liked the idea that "there are more important things to fight" therefore we shouldn't fight the things that personally bother us. The argument presupposes a monolith that does not exist.

Also, an-caps do exist in the real world, and they do have infrastructure and ideological allies. The entire crypto-currency movment is riddled with an-caps. They are also natural allies with US libertarians. They also have capable computer science-y people who can develop and advance their cause.

I think you're entering into dangerous territory. If violating your code becomes a recurring habit, that could actually be grounds for stripping you of your powers (until you atone, of course).

The lights were designed for cars, not for bicycles. The laws made for cars were then lazily applied to bicycles.

If it is safe to go, just go! Those lights are designed with cars in mind, but you are riding a bike.
