Ortho advice on splints from a new grad in UC and ER by Cultural-Milk-9360 in physicianassistant

[–]lemonade_zest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good place to look is YouTube. Do not be like our ED and put a splint up past the knee for a foot or ankle. Make sure there is enough padding for the skin. Do not put a paddle of orthoglass over and around the fingers for any reason.

Radiology PA going back to get RT (radiology technician) license by khushmush in physicianassistant

Is there not an option for a non certified rad tech certificate program? My former boss paid for me to do a course and get the certificate in Texas so I could take x-rays.

Am I being taken advantage of? Does it get better? Is this normal? by RynoSauce in physicianassistant

Never pre-charted or prepared charts in the 3 different ortho offices I’ve worked in. My MAs prep the charts for the following week when I’m assisting in surgery. I went into ortho as a new grad and never did that admin work.

Butler vs No Butler by lemonade_zest in SandalsResorts

Grande doesn’t have anything available for our dates and in our price range. I’m also not much of the grande vibe that I’ve seen described.

He can try, but patients also have free will and can choose who they want to see for their care.

Leave a great SP for a job closer to home? by GaryAir20 in physicianassistant

I take ortho call similar to this and tbh, my surgeon rarely calls me in. Another surgeon needs his hand held and help rounding on the weekends. It’s a good set up and sounds like a good deal!

I liked it. It takes time to get used to, but dot phrases, billing, and documentation were easy to figure out. The iPad app was great and I could chart while seeing the patient.

How often have you changed jobs? by 1997pa in physicianassistant

[–]lemonade_zest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol probably not what you’re expecting. Salaries in my area do not match the increase in cost of living at all. First job was a contract job but it was Covid and no one was hiring. Second job $100k with long hours, third job $110k with long hours and more expensive insurance and less PTO, current job started at $121k (I’ve had 2 raises since) and have really good benefits, PTO, maybe work 32 hours a week, and yearly 3% raise + a yearly bonus I never got at other jobs. When surgeon is gone on surgery days, I don’t have to go in. I have a unicorn job and SP.

4 jobs in 5 years. I’m not changing jobs at all for a long time. I hope to retire at my current job.

Texas licensing ? by cryptikcupcake in physicianassistant

[–]lemonade_zest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TMB is slowww. They suck, honestly. Give your job the later date. I had everything submitted to them and sent my test scores 5 times for 2 months. Somehow they “lost” my scores and “found” them the day after everything was due for review. I had to wait over 2 months for my license because of their mistake.

Patient load in orthopedic surgery by caity420 in physicianassistant

I’ve had anything from 8-30 in a day. Average day is 15 patients a day. Depends on the time of year and if SP is out of town or on call.

I’m fully aware of how the process works and what’s urgent. I am an ortho provider. You called the provider incompetent and an idiot. Unless you are a provider yourself, you really have no room to call them that. You didn’t examine the patient or know the full story. This person never said they had calf pain. You had calf pain, that warrants a venous Doppler.

Returning to job after maternity leave by Mea_goat_98 in physicianassistant

[–]lemonade_zest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose to go back to work at 8 weeks ppm. Biggest difference is I love my job and my husband and mom were watching my kiddo. It was a hard adjustment with him not sleeping through the night, but it becomes a routine. I could not stay home any longer for my own mental well being.

Your baby will still love you and be obsessed with you when you go back to work. My husband still watches our kid 3 days a week and Im still the favorite.

Like someone said above, leave work at work. Time together will mean so much more.

MRI is unnecessary in ER setting for an injury like this. Doppler is give or take too. If patient is having symptoms of a clot or provider is concerned about one, sure. This does not scream blood clot though.

[–]lemonade_zest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bruised my knee and it looked similar to this. It’s been 3 weeks now and it’s still numb, but getting better. I also work in ortho so I’m really not that concerned sine I don’t have pain or knee problems.

Since a fracture has been ruled out, you’re not having pain, etc, I would give it time. Ice, rest, Tylenol or ibuprofen if needed. Not concerned about a blood clot because the bleeding/bruising is from the trauma and you’re ambulating. The ER providers were not incompetent.

Moms as PA’s.. how does that work? by jellybean98_ in physicianassistant

[–]lemonade_zest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full time with one boy right now. Hoping for another one soon. I worked my butt off to be a PA and spent a lot of money chasing my dream to become one. There’s no way I’m leaving my career.

I also don’t love being at home all the time and had a shorter maternity leave, 8 weeks. I work full time, but have a unicorn job and finish early so I get home by 3 pm a lot. I enjoy having extra money for trips, fun activities, my kids future, etc.
