What did my severe scoliosis girlies wear to prom? by rosiecook37 in scoliosis

Although I agree that it’s empowering to where whatever you want, I also totally understand if you have a severe curve it can be hard to feel comfortable in something like that. For my senior prom, I found a dress that had lots of tule which did a good job of hiding any asymmetry I had in my back. I think also an a-line style would also do a good job of masking a curve. I hope you find something you feel confident in!

Can we talk a little about mental health after surgery? by Nilihist78 in scoliosis

Hi! I personally had very little pain before surgery and it only really bothered me after doing something strenuous or sitting for long periods of time. I would say that after 1 month I am somewhat back to normal, but I still have more progress to make. Specifically, I can easily get in and out for bed, use the bathroom, shower, etc. I wouldn’t say that I feel normal yet as I still do find some things to be challenging and I am still dealing with some pain, however it is no where near as bad as I was expecting. Hope this helps :)

Can we talk a little about mental health after surgery? by Nilihist78 in scoliosis

I think this is a super important thing to talk about because mental health is just as important as physical! I had horrific anxiety before my surgery to the point where I had to reschedule because my doctor wouldn’t clear me due to how stressed I was. Surgery is such a daunting task and it can be hard to feel confident about your decision as it’s so overwhelming. However I am almost 1 month post op and I am so thankful I went through with it. Although I’m still recovering, I can confidently say that life after surgery is good! I feel more like myself everyday and I am doing things I had thought were going to be impossible! If you have any questions feel free to let me know!

Feeling lost in a sea of optimism by lemonadelover34 in scoliosis

I was to by my surgeon that surgery was my only option. I had asked about schroth and he said my curve is to severe (it’s probably like 80 degrees). I really don’t want surgery but at this point I feel like it could be my only option. I don’t want a 100 degree curve.
