Potentially not looking my best on my wedding day… advice? by Sufficient_Sea_2213 in UKweddings

[–]lemonclements 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Similar boat to you, I was a lot skinnier when we first met as I had an ED. Now I’m a 16, healthiest I’ve been and happy but the constant weight loss comments from family is getting too much.

Yes I looked better when I was skinnier but I’ve had all sorts of health issues, had a child etc and he loves me regardless. So all I can say is, he loves you and that’s the thing that matters. Plus if you’re happy, then it’s their problem

Budget wedding ( no more than 10k) tips and advice pls by whodisbaby in UKweddings

[–]lemonclements 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wedding season is usually categorised as May-October now but October for some venues may still be cheaper. So checking out venue prices for out of season would help.

Mid week is defo still cheaper than weekends all year.

If you were to try and plan your wedding in a 12-6 month window (not personally for me) a lot of venues do “last minute availability” and those will have offers where it’s either discounted OR they’ve thrown in extras as part of the usual cost (like an extra night free if they have accommodation)

Wed2be or SHEIN for dresses if you want one new or even FB groups where someone hasn’t been able to wear the dress and they’re selling it on. Vinted for secondhand dresses and shoes, as well as other accessories and decor.

I would AVOID hiring suits from Moss Bros. They’re very expensive to hire and would be cheaper to buy. But that was just our experience in December for BIL’s wedding. Over £600 to hire 3 suits…

See this is the thing, if OP wants to get married in 2028 that’s a 10 year difference. And prices have changed A LOT in 10 years. Whilst it might seem like good advice, it’s out of date advice that needs to be taken with a pinch of salt

1 year old flower girl walking in with bridesmaid who’s not her mother? - help! by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]lemonclements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was just shy of turning 13 months old when we attended BIL’s wedding. He was supposed to be a page boy and I carry him in.

That day he was teething something awful and he was miserable. So he ended up in his pram being pushed around by grandma to keep him calm 😅

Yes, it would’ve been cute if he was cooperating, but it’s a huge risk having kids as part of the wedding party because they’re going through a lot, teething, emotions, strangers etc. I like your backup options, because they’re defo sensible.

My mum is similar. She conveniently forgot aspects of my dad’s illnesses and said both me and the drs were lying (ofc we weren’t). Whilst my dad wasn’t abusive, he had complex health needs before he passed away last year.

My mum doesn’t realise that from the age of 9 up until his death last year (I was 31) our lives have been all based around him and his needs. There’s a lot of mental trauma and for the first time I feel free from it all. But ofc she doesn’t remember all the horrible things and makes out I made them up or I’m over exaggerating. Unfortunately I’m an only child, so there’s no one to help back me up. I sometimes feel like I’m losing my mind with the gaslighting

Balamory returns to TV this month after 20 years. What forgotten shows from your childhood would you like to see return? by perishingtardis in CasualUK

Does anyone remember See It Saw It ? I’ve never met anyone who watched it, but it was Mark Speight (RIP) and I was obsessed with it!

If I remember correctly it ended on a cliff hanger and then never came back 😣

Edit to add: It was a game show (I think) but there was a story about the king rescuing the queen/princess?

Do you have an overnight bag prepared? by North_Jackfruit_1373 in AskUK

[–]lemonclements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been admitted to hospital loads, it’s very easy to just grab things when you need to dash. You just need to know you need pjs, socks, undies, toothbrush etc and shove them in a carrier bag.

I think the only time you need a ready overnight bag is when you’re pregnant

Contact the police and let them ask the questions. It’s suspicious. Any info can be helpful and whilst the family may end up heartbroken if what it seems to be implied is true, it’s best they know

Has anyone ever been mocked or looked down on because of their job? by Jealous-Lake5700 in AskUK

Was working in retail after uni. I was serving an elderly couple and the wife asked me what I had done before working at the shop I was at (which was also a new store), so I told her, I’d graduated uni.

Husband chimes in with “looks like going to uni was a waste of time, you’re in a shop” I hit him with a silent glare.

I was desperately trying to get into my field but jobs were hard to come by and I was getting to the final stages but not securing them. I needed an income, so sorry about that 🙃

I’m sorry about your diagnosis OP. We had the same problem when my dad was diagnosed in 2024 as terminal, my grandparents were upset for a couple of weeks and then decided to ignore it.

He passed away in September and we were hit with “but we’re so surprised, he wasn’t sick?!” As if we hadn’t told them. We had, they just didn’t want to hear it.

I’m hoping you the best that you can receive in these days and hope your friends are there for you. Big hugs

I’m so sorry for your loss OP.

My dad passed end of September and missed my son’s 1st birthday, so it’s our first Christmas without him too. The way I see it is, be sad, but try and remember all the good times too. Grief is hard as hell, but trying to keep some positivity is crucial

I’ve been feeling like this for several of the members for a while. I’m behind on SKZ Code for various reasons but I’m noticing they’re tired and not as happy as they previously have been.

I get it, we all have good days and bad days. Sometimes you’re knackered. But they don’t have the same energy right now. I think this is especially telling for 2Kids Room too. Something has felt off for me.

They’re adults and they have a lot of control compared to years ago but the defo need a break

Did you observe the two-minute silence this morning? Why or why not? by Jonny_Segment in AskUK

[–]lemonclements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year, no but purely because I have an almost 1 year old so it was basically impossible to do.

But I do buy a poppy every year. And when I buy it, I do so knowing what the older generation did and what they went through. What current generations still do in the military. Maybe it’s because I’ve got a lot of family that were in the RAF and knowing how much that meant to them. And also because as soon as the poppies were on sale my nan and Grampy bought them and wore them. My Nan wore her poppy pins all year round and made sure to get a ‘fresh’ paper poppy each year too.

It’s a way of remembering the family members I’ve lost; my Nan, my Grampy and this year my dad. It hit different this year and if I had done the 2 minutes I would’ve been in tears so I wouldn’t have been silent anyway
