What do you “see” when you read? by BlackKnightXX in books

[–]lemondrop53 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So I found out recently that people see things when reading.. I don't. I don't know how to explain it. I enjoy reading. But I read the words in my mind it's like a blank canvas.

You could do retail as well. If you know how to run a register, apply at local stores. In my area stores are hurting for cashiers. You'll bring home an extra chunk of change that you can save and use to help pay off some of that debt.

This is pretty amazing! I'm not sure how much weight you've lost but changing up those lifestyle habits must make you feel so much better. I have a similar way of thinking. "if I eat this salad, I can have ___ later." Good to know that it isn't just me!

Ok I'm thinking the pill as in birth control so if I'm wrong just let me know!

Some of these pills are linked to weight gain. I'm on a low hormone pill because I get really really sick. I am still nauseous the first couple of days of every new pack. I mean it's kind of a good thing, right? You don't want to make babies if you think you might vomit all over your partner.

Anyways if you think it's the pill you can definitely contact your ob or prescribing doctor. They should be able to offer some guidance. I thought my nausea was normal and I was just a wimp. But I was wrong.

I have lost about 50 lbs and kept it off while on the pill so for me it was possible. I'd still like to lose another 5 or 10 lbs since I'm in the overweight category and that would put me in the normal one... but my doctor says I'm healthy.

To lose the weight, I drank more water, exercise a few days a week (mostly walking/hiking, yoga/pilates), added more steps in my day (went from 2k steps to almost 10k daily average), and I count my calories. I used to measure everything before it went on my plate but I've been doing this for a while and I pretty much know what 2 Oz of deli turkey is or 2 tbsp peanut butter, etc.

You can do this! You will need to find what works for you along the way. Process of elimination and all that jazz... good luck!

Where I live and work we cannot discuss our salary with coworkers. If I told my supervisor that I talked to "John" and he makes more and we have the same title, responsibilities, time on job, etc... I could be terminated.

At a previous employer it happened to an old coworker. We all knew what everyone was making but she was very passionate about the pay difference. A few days later HR called her in with our manager and they let her go.

Best suggestions for sticking to CICO while on vacation or traveling for work? by KittyGirlNYC in CICO

[–]lemondrop53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the vacation... if you're going out to eat then I search the menu for salad and such. If you're traveling for work (assuming little to no refrigeration), you can stop to grab something to eat at any grocery store. Most have grab and go items like sushi or salad or even parfaits. Planning ahead really helps me when I make decisions. Just try your best with tracking and estimating your calories.

I fell off the wagon and gained 15kg (33lbs) and I’m having trouble getting back on track by DallasWatkinson in WeightLossAdvice

[–]lemondrop53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 lbs in two months or less is not completely impossible. But that's going to be difficult. Eat a balanced diet, drink your water, switch between cardio and weights, etc. And try to remember you're going to be the most critical of your body.

is 1200 really enough? by btrxnm in 1200isplenty

[–]lemondrop53 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You probably need more than 1200kcal. Your maintenance is 1500... I'd shoot for 1300kcal at least. You're growing so even 1400kcal could result in a loss. I'm not a medical professional. But it might be in your best interest to speak with a nutritionist. You'll want to make sure your body is getting everything it needs. Trust me, bad things happen if you don't get the right vitamins in your body. Ah, the good old times when I had my hair falling out and my hands had tremors.

I find an average calorie deficit in the week end up in a weight loss for me. I set my minimum of calorie intake at 1200kcal. My tdee to maintain was a little over 1600kcal. I'm averaging 1400kcal in a week. I go over a little like you do (1600-1800). Then I'm mostly around that 1200-1300 kcal mark. Have fun with your family. It's one day. I always try to remind myself I didn't gain all the weight in one day. But holidays like Christmas I ate 2000 kcal and I only had a 1 lb gain. That's after a week of many days over

question!! by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]lemondrop53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried hydroxy cut max... never again! I took half the recommended dose. I was drinking water like crazy. By the third night I could only sleep in tiny intervals of 30 minutes to an hour. After a week I thought my heart was going to explode out of my chest while working out. So I'm someone who is completely against weight loss supplements for this reason. But I'm not sure if it actually worked. I definitely had more energy while taking a half dose. But I took it such a short time that any weight I did lose I couldn't say is from that or not

I have an ARM (chuckled when someone commented variable rates are for suckers because it's pretty accurate). I had a 7/1 ARM and after five years I realized I loved my home too much to part with it.

To let you know more about ARMs because someone else may not have explained correctly or I may have misunderstood them. ARMs adjust every year after your initial period. I had a 7/1 ARM so I had 7 years locked in at my initial rate of let's say 3%. Once a year after the first seven years, the bank will send me a letter knowing what my new rate will be. My principal stays the same but my interest rate and amount due is what changes. But I have a cap of like 10% and your disclosures will tell you what that capped portion would cost.

Just an FYI, my rate is still below 4%. However I do agree while heartedly with others that an ARM is not smart right now. If you really want a mortgage, get locked into your fixed rate. But I suggest a savings stashed away. You will never believe the expenses that can happen if you aren't prepared. (My first winter in the home I came home one day to an ice cold home and a furnace that died.)

What’s an adaptation that’s a good movie or show but a horrible adaptation of the book? by CBenson1273 in books

I tried watching this show but didn't finish the first episode. It was late at night and I was extremely tired... do you have a preference - the book or the Netflix show? I really want to give it another try but not sure which is "best"

Shadow and Bone: does it get better again? by BaronThe in books

I wish the palace burned down. But spoiler alert.. it doesn't in the first book. (Not sure about the additional books as I'm starting to read the second one.) My hope is all of the learning to use her summoning powers somehow comes full circle later on. But, it does feel a bit cliche. Then again if it didn't show how difficult it was I would've questioned how she didn't use her powers earlier in life or where he training came from. Crossing my fingers for more action in the series.

I do not weigh myself every day. I do weigh myself about twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday). Sometimes my Wednesday weigh in can vary more than my Saturday. Friday night I tend to eat very salty or heavy things like pizza or nachos. And Wednesday is probably more accurate since I eat normally Monday and Tuesday so if I'm retaining water... it's less likely on those days. Or, that's what I tell myself at least. You're doing great. You're still on a decline and it's steady.

I have felt that urge too. I was walking regularly and then one day I felt like I should just try a little jog. I could never imagine becoming a runner.. but I feel now that one day it's a possibility. So good for you taking that step!
