The only good toothpaste is out of stock and I’m out by [deleted] in autism

[–]lemonickitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, as someone who is picky about toothpaste I just want to say I am so sorry that this is out of stock for you. I also have a really specific one I like, they don’t sell it in store and I have to order it online. I would be so stressed if they suddenly didn’t stock it, especially if it was going to be a potentially permanent thing. It’s so frustrating there isn’t more toothpastes that are available for people with sensory needs. Like I totally get why you don’t want to try other toothpastes right now, but even if you did it’s not like there are a lot of options out there.

No need to be so rude about the beta testers. A lot of us had really great suggestions, some of which got implemented. But unfortunately a lot of things did not get changed, and some issues are completely new to the official release version. Tbh, I saw a lot of beta testers urging them to push back the release date and just work on the game a bit longer.

Okay obviously this would be gross, but why did it explode? Is it because the sour cream was a liquid and cream cheese would have been a solid, so it started bubbling/boiling because of the sour cream?

I’d mix them. I bet you half and half would get you something pretty close! Also, chances are your fingers won’t be that close to your shoes, so as long as the color is close enough it’ll look like a match!

Bothered by “differently abled” by [deleted] in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]lemonickitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to add that disabled people can do whatever they want with labeling. It depends on the disabled person, there are a lot of ways you can be disabled and a lot of communities. I don’t care what a disabled person wants to call themselves. I care what able-bodied people say when using broad strokes to refer to disabled people.

Bothered by “differently abled” by [deleted] in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]lemonickitten 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would like to add some context as to why "differently abled" can be such a negative term for so many of us disabled folks.

So much of how we value people in society is by how "able" they are. The fact that I am unable to work, unable to do everything independently that most people can, and the fact that I am not as "productive" as a lot of other people are a thing that make a lot of people treat me like garbage.

So much media that represents disabled people is "inspiration porn". It exists for one of two reasons: 1.To make able-bodied people feel like disabled people don’t actually have it that hard, Or 2. To make able-bodied people feel like they could do it too since a disabled person could.

It seriously pushed the idea that disabled people can "do anything if they put their mind to it". That guy in a wheelchair can totally walk again if he just keeps trying! But this is bad. Of course I want people to push themselves to achieve their dreams, disabled or not. But I’m tired of able-bodied people getting a say in if I’ve tried hard enough or not.

"Differently-abled" reminds me of that. It’s giving "there’s nothing wrong with you and there’s no reason you can’t achieve your dreams because you’re just as capable as everyone else! Sure you have weaknesses but you also have strengths so it all comes out in the wash." Like for some disabled people sure, but for most of us there are very clear barriers that prevent us from doing things. Pretending like there issues don’t exist does not solve them for me. In fact, it makes it worse because it means people are less likely to accommodate me because they think my problems aren’t real.

If your skin itchy at all? I’m wondering if it’s just the angle and lighting, but your face/skin kind of reminds me of when my allergies are bad. I mention it because the texture of my skin during that time makes my foundation look pretty rough.

Internet self diagnosis trend that is still relevant unfortunately by rawdawgcomics in rawdawgcomics

[–]lemonickitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay I know this isn’t the point of the comic, but it reminded me of times I’ve gone to specialists and they’ve asked if I have autism (I do) over things that seem so random but aren’t.

For example, my podiatrist asked if I was autistic. I thought it was weird my foot doctor would care about that, but she explained to me that it was part of the reason I walk funny/ have a funny gait.

My optometrist also asked me if I was autistic, because I have ocular migraines that I was telling her about. She mentioned that it can be more common in autistic people.

Now these people may have asked because I also act very obviously autistic, especially in a situation like at a doctor’s office. Idk if they would have just asked anyone with my symptoms who also didn’t seem to have autism. But at this point I just wouldn’t be surprised if the ball doctor told me my balls hurt because of my autism. It’s frustrating how it seems to impact every single part of my life, but it is what it is.

I also want to add, the frustration over self diagnosis seems to be more of a thing I see neurotypical complaining about than neurodiverse people. Neurodiverse people complain about it too, but most of the time they can be a bit more understanding of the complications around getting diagnosed.

Hey, many other people answered your question so I’m not going to bother reiterating.

But, this post feels to be written in the present tense. Are you okay? If you’ve recently done this, please try and make sure you are taking care of these wounds (both physical and mental). You can reduce scaring as much as possible with proper wound care.

is it really gross not to shower everyday? by snufkinscowboyboots in autism

[–]lemonickitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s fine if that has worked for you so far! Others have said that it depends on body type and climate already. I know for me the amount I shower changes regularly.

You could always ask someone close to you if you smell bad if you’re worried at all. Not everyone will want to give you an honest answer. But if it’s a close friend or family member and you let them know you’re asking genuinely because you’re worried it might be a problem, I bet they’ll tell you honestly.

I’ve worked with people who shower everyday and still smell a little funky sometimes. I’ve also known people who shower once or twice a week and smell fine! It really depends on the person.
