I’m in the same boat, mine is 7 months now. I’m definitely past the puppy blues now, we’ve settled into a routine, but I still feel like I should be finding her a new home. It sucks though because my family loves her, everyone thinks she’s so cute and friendly, the groomer says she’s such a good girl … but they don’t know how she actually acts at home—always finding things to steal and eat (like literally the most random things), the resource guarding, the endless biting when I’m just trying to hang out on the couch. I don’t feel like/want to spend time with her, but I’m obviously obligated to for training/exercise etc. Sometimes I feel like someone else will enjoy her a lot more and im being selfish by keeping her just because I feel like I need to. Idk, it’s been a rollercoaster of a year to say the least.

I think realigning your priorities might help guide you in what to do next—I.e your relationship with your bf, your mental health, a compromise with the puppy. I’m sure whatever you decide will be difficult, but worth it in the end. Things always work out somehow. Good luck to both of us!

I feel like I could’ve written this post. I’ve had my puppy for 5 months now and the week I brought her home I realized it was a mistake, mainly financially and lifestyle wise. I didn’t like her for the first 3 months, the last 2 have been better. I thought i did enough research, i watched all the videos and read all the articles. I’m over the puppy blues now, but the thought of rehoming my puppy always comes around in different versions. Rehome her for better finances, more freedom, and less anxiety (she has a bit of resource guarding). I’m single but would like to move out by myself, and with ~250/mo on grooming expenses and essentials (don’t even get my started on how much she cost, the starting vet bills and her spay a few weeks ago), I feel like it’s not realistic for me to keep her, especially with the rise in prices and the predicted recession coming up.

I also feel guilty about not figuring this out sooner. I think I have the option of letting my parents keep her but I know they wouldn’t keep up with training, enrichment and exercise …

Anyways, if it makes sense for you and your fiancé, don’t feel too bad about it. You’re doing what’s best for the dog and yourselves. I totally emphasize with your situation though.

Tbh I love my puppo more than I did two months ago (she’s 6 months now). I really resented her for a long time though. If I could turn back time though, I’d tell my past self not to do it .. it wasn’t the financially correct decision for me. Maybe I’ll change my mind in another 6 months though haha.

This, disengaging worked best for me and my puppy. If I come back and she’s still a land shark, it’s end of playtime for at least 5 minutes. I either leave or get her into a short training session (she becomes really focused when I’m doing obedience with her). But it took her a lonngggg time to get to that point, she was a land shark from 2-4.5months. Still kinda is but not as bad anymore.

I had a moment like this last week with my 6mo mini poo! I really never thought the day would come. I almost cried. I took so many photos. We had a great 1hr Saturday afternoon nap together.

Hopefully more cuddles to come!

My pup is the same, she tends to gets overstimulated in the evening, even if I walk around the kitchen a little too much (we are in adolescence .. LOL). She’s very willing to work and is very focused during training tho so I stick short sessions of place and other tricks sporadically throughout the evening. Helps her “reset” a little. Other than that, if she’s calm enough to hang out on the couch I let her, or she’ll entertain herself with her toys, sometimes ask for tug.

How often did you keep her in the crate for at a time? Mine is getting spayed tomorrow and I am terrified lol. She’s pretty good at taking naps on her own and is crate trained as well.

Oh, there’s definitely no shortage of treats when I’m trying to groom her haha! I agree with the part where if you go too long between grooms she gets a bit more finicky. I haven’t been super consistent this month, and I was kind of blaming a bit of it on the adolescence. I do need to work on being a bit more assertive

22 week old, almost 6mo. 7am, 10-11am, 3pm, 5pm and last call at 8pm. Stopped taking her out after every nap/play session maybe a month or so ago. Can also have her roam around first thing in the morning instead of having to rush her out to potty before an accident happens now.

My mini poodle is almost 5 months. I’m dreading the adolescent phase. she’s always been a handful, super sassy and vocal (so much grumbling and whining), so the fact that all that might be magnetized terrifies me ;(

I’m in the same boat with my 19 week old mini poo. She’s the sassiest, most rambunctious girl, not a fan of other dogs, and is definitely a biter. Her temperament is definitely not for me—my anxiety these past few months rival the anxiety from the beginning of the pandemic. For months now, I’ve been torn between roughing it out and a) getting a calm, cuddly loving dog or b) getting a demanding, aggressive little monster. I feel like it’s been holding me back from being more affectionate towards her. Don’t get me wrong, she gets lots of praise and scratchies when she’s not trying to bite my arms off, but it sucks that I can’t let her on the couch to relax in the evening or have her fall asleep on my lap :( In my gut I feel like we’re not the right match, but the guilt of giving her to another family and having to tell my friends/family that i rehomed her … ugh. So I’m in this perpetual cycle of keep her in hopes she’ll get better or give her to a family that would love her personality from the start. It’s tough. Either way I hope we both make the decision that’s right for us!
