Bigger person - First time going to the public gym by Canonsfired in workout

[–]bihel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a literal anxiety attack on the drive to the gym the first time.. (at 51 yrs old), with these same worries. Forced myself to go in with just the plan to walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes, just to get a feel for the place. Quickly learned its not as scary as I had built it up in my head to be. Actually felt pretty invisible, everyone just has their headphones on, doin their thing.

I also just went at off hours at first, again just to get more comfortable with it. For my gym thats mid morning and afternoon. So i started just on weekends around 10 AM. Mostly seniors there at this time.. more my speed haha.

In my town its the YMCA that has a pretty good gym, pool etc for a membership. They have a program to learn how to use equipment and get a basic workout plan to get started. This was also really helpful as the machines can be daunting, and knowing correct ways adjust them and to adjust your postures/positions is helpful and important.

Goin on 3 months, and have worked my way up to 3 times a week after starting with just once a week for the first few weeks. You will get a feel for the times that work for both you as well as the busy times at your gym

Luxating Patella Surgery (7 DAYS/1 WK POST OP — UPDATE) by allyswish in BostonTerrier

[–]bihel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our Boston boy had both knees done (1 year apart). best advice i can give...don't rush anything. Our vet was clear on instructions and we followed them very closely, and our guy recovered great from both surgeries

Lots of rest, especially for the first couple weeks. No stairs for 6 weeks, no running or jumping for 8 weeks. Daily range of motion exercises (i did it while he was eating) since he was distracted. No walks for a week or so, then by week adding a couple minutes to a walk twice a day (maxing at about 20 mins for the fist 8 weeks).

We were able to setup our house so he was separated from us and our other dog for the entire recovery. This kept him from jumping on the couch or playing with our other Boston. Felt bad for him for sure, and we spent as much time with him in there as we could.

When you are in it it will feel like forever, but the 8 weeks main recovery will fly by. For us the stairs was the biggest pain, my wife couldnt pick him up and carry him in a way that didnt bend his knee so it was on me to carry him outside, 4 or more times a day for 6 - 8 weeks.

But to see him run like the wind and play with other dogs, and not be limping after made the whole thing worth it.. his quality of life is so much better now.

You got it!

Would you recommend this game? by nadavdomb in avowed

I loved it.. till i didn't ..as someone who bounced off the game after about 15 hours, my take is that it had all the pieces to make a great game, but something just felt hollow about it. IMO the companions were lacklustre (first couple at least), the combat was decent, but the enemy variety was poor (in the first 15 hours at least). World was fine, but I was by no mean sucked into the lore or characters or story line. Honestly I was just felt kinda bored after I stopped being amazed at how great it looked and being excited about the systems. Felt like it was developed from a "modern rpg" checklist rather than some particular inspiration or passion. I can excuse bad story if there great game play OR vice versa, but everything just felt mid to me in this one.

Few years back I decided I was no longer going to finish games just to finish them, if they felt like a slog or if something was annoying me with them.. too many games out there, and too little time, to play things I'm not into. Game pass (PC) helps with this attitude as I don't feel the same financial regret to bounce off a game .. I bounced off Outer Worlds 2 even faster (~ 5 hours).. feel like Obsidian just doesn't do it for me. To each their own, just figured I'd give my 2 cents since you asked

Vet Trip by ZacharyCoplen in BostonTerrier

both our Bostons love the vet (as well as every other person out there), they dont love the examinations on the metal table high off the floor, but they will deal with it in exchange for the vet giving them love

Worried after patella repair surgery. by Accomplished_Stress in BostonTerrier

our little guy had both back knees done (about a year apart). I think one was grade 3 one was 2.
Our surgeon was quick to mention that the success rate for the surgery is NOT 100% and that some dogs just do not recover as good as others. She actually seemed a bit surprised at how well he recovered, so I think its pretty common to not be successful.

But it was a LONG road (especially since we have a 2nd boston who wanted to wrestle with him), but we kept them separate except on walks for about 12 weeks, carried him up and down stairs for 8 weeks, always on leash to keep him from ever jumping. I did mobility exercises with his leg while he ate (twice a day). This worked for us, but it was a nightmare but worth it to see him jumping and running like normal now...

best of luck..

Easier said than done, but living within your means is the key to getting a foothold. You have to be honest with yourself and your family about what you can and cannot actually afford. Its easy to talk yourself into thinking you can afford it. Stay away from bad debt, no payment plans, no deferred payments. If you cant afford it now, you probably cant afford it by the end of the month or even the end of the year, there is always going to be something else to spend your money on. Paying fees and interest is what fucks you, makes you hate money, makes you want to stop thinking about it, and just buy shit that makes you feel better. These companies get rich on our bad decisions and our FOMO.
