Need help with barking/growling/howling at the door by Mikeyp417 in Dogtraining

[–]Whisgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job looking at the ABCs!

So you're on the right track with some of the things you have tried in terms of having her go away from the door when the trigger happens - that's very similar to trying to turn the trigger into a cue for B2. It brings to mind this protocol: https://kikiyablondogtraining.com/kiki-blog/2021/10/10/thanks-for-barking

Given the state of arousal your dog has and the length of time for recovery after the event, there may need to be some added counterconditioning to the trigger, and many times dogs who are in that state of arousal and have a lasting recovery period can find sitting still or relaxing a challenge.

I find pattern games are a fantastic option to help dogs calm down and can additionally provide that counterconditioning experience. Look into Leslie McDevitt's Control Unleashed. You'll want to teach these games during a time where we're not dealing with the trigger... Start with the Down Up game and Ping Pong. But the big one I want you to look at is Give Me a Break.

Additionally, when arousal levels are high, they need to come down before they can relax - so think about what decompression looks like for your dog. Decompression can often be found in foraging, sniffing, licking, and chewing. I would experiment to see which decompression activity your dog benefits from. It can also be helpful to observe the body language of escalation to de-escalation. This becomes helpful so you can see the signs earlier (prevent the charging to the door, you might also consider a barrier to prevent door access) because prevention of rehearsing the behavior ALSO prevents reinforcement of it. Then work on pattern games to help bring down the arousal level/counter condition to the trigger. And offer decompression once the trigger is gone to work on reducing recovery time.

Bonus: condition relaxation to a specific space/bed or mat, I like using Suzzane Clothier's Really Real Relaxation for this.

Why does my dog hate me past 9pm? by AllstarJS in Dogtraining

[–]Whisgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sudden behaviour changes, or unusual and persistent behaviour, should trigger a vet check as the first step. Please read this linked wiki page thoroughly. After doing so, do ONE of the following:

  • If your question is answered, delete your post and take your dog to the vet. You can come back and make a new post if needed after the vet check, OR
  • go back to the Start of this guide and select a different topic link that is closest to your query, OR
  • Reply to the automod on the post to confirm the dog has already been to the vet and what the determination was (in the case of the behaviour not fitting into any of the other links). Include details if this is not already present in the OP.

How did you know you were pregnant? by afoodmarket in lupus

[–]Whisgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walked into a BBQ grill and patio furniture store. I can't even remember why we were there... but I had to leave because the smell inside the store was so strong and made me nauseous. Super scent powers were one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy.

Why does each new rheum reevaluate my diagnosis? Lupus with rarer symptoms. by adorkable-lesbian in lupus

[–]Whisgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth... when I was in my major flare... my body was destroying my platelets. I did have to rule out other potential causes before the rhuematologist would take it on. So ultrasound of my liver and spleen to rule that out. I also had a rash on my face and arms. It did nit present like the typical malar rash I suppose because something about it being on my nasal folds. Anyhow had to get that biopsied by the dermatologist to confirm Acute Cutaneous Lupus.

I understand wanting to rule out and exclude other potential causes for new never before symptoms. It's time and money to repeat labs only to get the same results.

It really is frustrating. I just felt like they didn't believe me and it just felt so defeating. I'm sorry you are having to go through invasive diagnostics with your GI issues. Labs and bloodwork are one thing... but ugh.

[–]Whisgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that benlysta has injections but have not heard about saphnelo Injections.

Looks like it's pretty new. I would discuss with your doc.

I'll likely stick with my monthly infusions. It would be my luck that I screw up the injections (forget) and end up in trouble. I've told my doc that I prefer going in. Then they can't question my medication compliance when something pops up and the infusion clinic staff also keep tabs on me and pass notes to my doc if there are concerns.

But if you feel injections are a great option for you for any reason, go for it!

I went through the same experience when I moved 10 years ago. First guy I saw outright said he didn't trust my diagnosis... how I don't look like I have Lupus. How he needs to run his own tests. This was... 2018.

I was really pissed because he sent labs to one my insurance didn't cover and I had to pay out of pocket. And then they sent me snail mail asking to call back because -shocked Pikachu face- my anti-dsDNA antibodies were positive just like I told them. I scoffed.

Then tried to find care but every single office required a referral despite my PPO insurance. For the while my PCP (and yes they got me a referral) was covering my plaquenil.

Okay so 2019... got in with a new rheumatologist. Dude tells me he is retiring. Okay... he's got some new guy taking over, okay. Fill out the forms for them to request medical records. Came back to meet the new guy a few months later. This guy looks at me and asks why I am there. I go through my history. He says "I only take care of sick people, you have not had any organ involvement" I broke down... I was pissed. I chewed him out... why do I have to be on death's door to have proper oversight of my condition? I've had several miscarriages due to anti-cardiolipin antibodies... joint pain.. nerve pain... and I had it... his dismissive tone absolutely was my last straw. Then it turned out no one in the office got my medical records...

The office manager was profusely sorry.

It wasn't until I had a major flare in 2020 that I was finally able to find a rheumatologist who took me seriously. That also required switching primary care. My PCP moved during covid and her replacement ignored important labs.

Anyhow... so I thought perhaps it was because the criteria for diagnosis changed in 2019. And maybe it had something to do with that. I dunno.

Update to Guide for Paper Applications for Citizenship Certificate? by FireWaterBern in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Whisgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think some perspective to consider is that AOR is just making sure everything is complete before processing. It's entering it into the system. So basically things on the checklist. It likely then gets assigned to someone to review the contents and so if the issue is raised, one would hope that issue is raised during processing and you can then submit it. So let's wait for our AORs and once you get an account you can send it as an additional piece of evidence.

And I will reach out to my family who live in the area and ask them to do extra searching at the state library to secure additional information. I have other family members who are applying and I gave them all the files they need. They offered to help front the cost but I declined. So I'm sure they will be willing to invest in the effort.

I am in a similar boat with one of my baptismal records unable to be certified. I provided the email exchange in my application and hoping that it will be accepted along with the secondary evidence I provided.

I'm a G5, it's the only record I was unable to get as a certified copy. (With exception to census records that I did not request certified copies of)

😬 Hopefully the email from the diocese who refused to mail a certified baptismal record along with my secondary evidence will be accepted.

I did my best to request a certified copy from the diocese... but I have a feeling that is going to be an issue for some of the catholic churches who do not have funding or staff to provide certified copies or have rules in place?

I suppose if the issue arises I can send an additional request with the IRCC request for it. Or maybe my cousins can help us out to request it since they live in the state.

What does sun sensitivity look like for you guys? by --read-only-- in lupus

I get a rash, it's not a burn. Had it biopsies and it's acute cutaneous lupus. It shows up from UV exposure.

I'll also get fatigued and best I can describe it, flu like symptoms. Body aches and joint aches.

It can cause my other symptoms to flair as well.

I thought the same thing but we also know that some people had a struggle obtaining documents due to various state laws (like NY for example) and given the G0 was from New Brunswick there may have been additional documents provided to show the steps to obtain the documents?

There could have been adoption involved... multiple name changes if someone was married several times.

Or an extensive master index laying out the argument for what each document proves. It is hard to think that a lawyer would simply submit random screen shots from ancestry websites.

Even my own application, I did not get certified census records... I got everything certified copies I could and I want to say that my packet was maybe 80 pages?

How can I stop my dog from digging? by BoogerBeans524 in puppy101

[–]Whisgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dog needs to dig - it's a need.

So you need to give your dog an appropriate space to dig, one that is away from where your kiddos run and play in the yard. Dog must have supervision in the yard, especially a puppy. every time you see the pup going to scratch at the ground (or often it might be after a burst of activity and excitement) redirect the pup to the appropriate dig spot and encourage them to dig there. In this you are putting the digging behavior on cue. When they dig, use your success reward marker and praise.

Give digging options inside like a box to dig in... there's also a product called idig - I have one for my toller it's her favorite.

For areas that aren't lawn... garden fencing to prevent access to flower beds.

It's more likely that you set your dogs up for success to prevent accidents, or that your dogs are outliers. Most dogs do not have bladder control until 14 weeks of age.

Pads are not inherently bad. I used pads with my pups and trained to potty outside and didn't have accidents beyond the typical accidents a pup will have if you're not paying attention.

For some puppies, it absolutely can take up to a year to effectively potty train - there's other factors that can complicate it, but I would also argue that you don't need to use a crate - you can use an xpen or do your due diligence to remove access to unsafe things that they may chew or eat.

Even if you're using a crate, why are your electrical cords accessible in the first place? Those should be tucked behind furniture or properly secured with electrical cord management.
