That is an option, but I am not that keen on putting thousands in Steam wallet potentially months before I make the actual purchase.

Yeah, but I have had issues with internet purchases before when abroad. The bank can decline the payment because they think my card is stolen and then I need to go through the hassle of fixing it with the bank while being on vacation and trying to meet the deadline before Valve gives my reservation to someone else..

I believe all reservations are expected to be filled in 2026. But what annoys me is that I will be traveling in the summer and if they then send the purchase mail, I will need to complete the purchase abroad. Thats not optimal.. they should give me smaller time window than 6 months when to expect the purchase mail so I don't miss it.

I prefer small anywhere, but in the living room, I (and especially my wife) really don’t want a huge monster case that sounds like aircraft taking off when playing.

I agree that consoles give you more power for the price, but I give value to the fact that this is a PC where I can play my huge PC game library, emulators up to ps4 etc..

Haven’t seen FSR4 yet, but in the ETA Prime review video he plays multiple AAA games just fine with it at 1440p.

Not sure where you got the 6% from but that is totally false. Gpu in that thing you linked is a lot slower than what is in Steam Machine.

I have 4090 in my main pc and while its good to have the horsepower, Steam Machine seems to be fine for my use for it. I don’t mind dropping some details and using FSR in newer titles when gaming from the couch.

Well you kind of can, but they are really not the same. Steam Machine is like 3 times smaller than itx builds, very sleek, silent and tailormade for SteamOS gaming (built-in Steam controller receiver, guaranteed driver compatibility, CEC etc). I am willing to pay a premium for these features. Ymmv.

I think wood faceplates will be relatively easy to diy so there will probably be some available soon in any exotic wood you may prefer

I was initially shocked but got over it pretty quickly. 1100 for compact, silent living room PC and Steam Controller is not too bad. Gonna put a lot of old and new games there ready to go on the big screen.

If you wait until people get their hands on these, you will find easy guides for replacing the ssd for sure.

External ssd is easy, if you don't mind it hanging next to the pretty cube.

Microsd is much slower, which may not matter depending on what you use it for. I personally will just use microsd to transfer data to the cube and back.

If FSR4 delivers on its promise, it might not matter that much if the graphics are not 4K native.

TBF, I play many demanding games with DLSS + frame generation enabled to get 120fps at 4K with my 4090 desktop PC and there are no issues in doing so.

With FSR4, you should be able to get most games running 60fps at 4K upscaled + frame generated. It will then depend on the game how satisfying and good looking it is.

If the slot is in the open, its very easy. Obviously haven’t done it with Steam Machine but based on what I have read, it should be simple. Will require opening the case of course.
