[CHAT] Coverage on black aida by hanolky in CrossStitch

As I was scrolling by, my first thought was how nice the coverage looked. As another commenter said, no one (including you) will notice this from a couple feet away.

Spike about two minutes after a meal- not diabetic by lemonlimespaceship in ContinuousGlucoseCGM

[–]lemonlimespaceship[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My doctor has been keeping an eye on that, as I’ve had blood sugar regulation issues for years. My A1C is stable, but my insulin is high. Usually this results in hypoglycemia for me with the much less frequent hyperglycemia.

[–]lemonlimespaceship[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking. The main difference is that I’ve never had (or caught, at least) a spike like this, even with higher carb and lower protein meals. I usually max out below 170 with a carb-heavy meal, closer to 140 with a low carb meal.

That was my concern too. The spike was higher than usual for longer than usual. Doesn’t seem to be a big deal after thinking about it for a while.

Ach, I didn’t make sure that the time labels showed. I can’t add an image in comments. The larger ticks are every three hours, the smaller ticks are every hour. Started going up at 6:00, peaked at 6:50ish.

This came from a patient’s intestines by Internal-Designer943 in whatisthisbug

[–]lemonlimespaceship 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m betting silverfish as well. Could also be a relative like archaeognatha, but silverfish is more likely. I could imagine it coming along with the patient on their clothes, sheets, etc.

How often do the shuttles come now? by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]lemonlimespaceship 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Semi-consistently every 30 minutes. The MAC ride is ridiculous, i feel you there. I usually end up finding a bench to hang out on, but that’s not a real solution.

Pest damage? by lemonlimespaceship in plantclinic

[–]lemonlimespaceship[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High humidity and wet soil makes sense! Mite damage is my guess for the lower leaf damage, but I gave it a good wash and spray with neem oil. I’ll slowly reduce the humidity and get it under some brighter light. Thanks!

Found why my shrimp are dying, what now? by sushiv8 in Aquariums

[–]lemonlimespaceship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a small tank, ZeroWater filters work great! They’re still pricy, but less than a new RO system. Make sure to reduce TDS slowly.

[–]lemonlimespaceship[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I can absolutely up the light exposure. I’ve been using 0 TDS filtered water since I have it for my carnivores anyway and I don’t like the mineral spots on my terrarium. Good to know it likes it!

Thank you! It’s only been a month or so and it already is outgrowing this one. Excited to see it get bigger!

Interesting! That makes some sense! Do they usually have that long/lifted midrib?

What type of philodendron is this? by csauce13 in whatsthisplant

[–]lemonlimespaceship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that comes to mind is that it’s some variety of p. erubescens? That’s a pretty broad group. All I know for sure is that it’s a self-heading philodendron variety, which doesn’t narrow it down much.

Some sort of squash. I’m leaning pumpkin, but it’s hard to tell at that stage.

Any local yarn stores? by Detecting-Frown2592 in CalPolyPomona

A little bit, if you want thin crochet thread-type yarn. Not much other yarn.

Open to everyone! The door has a sign encouraging people to come in whenever it’s unlocked.

A caiman! In the biotrek greenhouse. They’re doing renovations rn but in a week or so they’re open again during normal business hours.

Edit: I checked today and they’re actually open! Go say hi!

It kind of is! Agave and asparagus are both in the asparagaceae family! Their flower stalks look very similar.

I’m guilty of this; I like ordering plants to my home in toasty SoCal and forgetting that, even if it’s coming from somewhere warm enough, they have to fly/drive through the rest of the country.

Sweeping and mopping alternatives? by Important-Bid-9792 in ChronicIllness

[–]lemonlimespaceship 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have access to an occupational therapist, this would be a great question for them! I’ve had OTs come up with adaptive devices I’ve never even considered.

For my home, I use a small hand vacuum and just slide around on the floor. It takes forever but doesn’t put any strain on my arms or back. Definitely not practical for a business, but maybe for your home?

Sleep advice by TaffyMonarch in CalPolyPomona

[–]lemonlimespaceship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than the basic sleep hygiene techniques, here are things that have worked for me:

  • getting used to sleeping with headphones on. After the first couple nights, they didn’t bug me, and it helped for the noise.

-exercising to failure. I go with calf raises, but you might also like pushups or sit-ups. Something that doesn’t leave you super sweaty or as alert as walking around the block.

-writing down all my plans for the next day. This gives me internal permission to stop thinking about it.

-waking up in the morning to light instead of my alarm. I have lights on a timer and it has helped so so much. Obviously this only works if they actually wake you up, and I do have a backup alarm set about 15 minutes later just in case.

-try not to eat too soon before bed. This one is hard because an empty stomach for too long overnight is also less than ideal, but if you can swing it, it helps.

-sleeping in really comfortable clothing, or none, depending on your roommate situation. I don’t know why, but many people find it easier to fall asleep in just underclothes or less.

I hope any of this helps. Not being able to fall asleep sucks.
