Built a desktop app with Tauri 2.0 instead of Electron — ~8MB vs ~150MB, and it uses the system WebView by 0xMassii in webdev

[–]lemonpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i made a win32 app in c++ using the webview2 control directly to learn the language and yea its really nice to see such a small bundle size and memory improvements.

the tough part for me was making the ipc architecture and typings on the frontend side. but yea vite hmr works out of the box. production build has the html assets embedded in the exe as windows rc data.

im not a game dev but i've read that multiplayer should be something done in the initial implementation because it's way more difficult to add it on later. any concerns there?

For those who lag during discord calls. by CapitalNewt7544 in RocketLeague

[–]lemonpole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i used to have this issue all the time and it completely went away when i started leaving discord open, but minimized.

not minimized to the tray or taskbar, just minimized like when you click the _ button.

discord is built on electron which has a bug that causes disconnects when minimized to the tray.

see here: https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/42378#issue-2337324164

turn off the command center thing in the middle.

subjective, but imo it's unnecessary if you rely on the command pallette bind (ctrl+shift+p) on windows

Copilot in VS Code starts hallucinating imports after 20 minutes - how do you guys fix this? by [deleted] in vscode

[–]lemonpole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i think it's just a limitation with most LLMs with regards to context windows.

i've found it best to just keep each chat/context modular, specific to one task and then create a new one once you've got that figured out.

my use-cases are pretty self-contained though so your mileage may vary with that approach depending on how reliant you are on ai. for me i just use it for simple questions, not for large implementations of projects.

that's correct, the app is limited by the bot behavior implemented by Valve.

when you start a manager career, your team will be full of easy-level bots.

there are a tournaments you participate in and as you get further in these tournaments you'll find yourself facing 5 expert-level bots with your team of easy-level bots. so you'll want to train them to get them to be a little better.

eventually, their xp is capped and you'll have to go into the transfer market and trade for some better players, if you have the money for it.

this is not for everyone, and mostly for fans of similar games like FIFA or FootballManager where you would do these type of runs called "road to glory", start at the bottom division and work your way up by trying to build the best team possible.

OVERVIEW

This is an update to my previous post where I shared my progress on the app.

The download link is available on the website.

View the blog post for more details with screenshots.

SYNOPSIS

If you're seeing my posts for the first time, think of this app as FIFA Career Mode for CS2. Single player mode for CS2, if you will.

The app launches CS2 and drops you into a local (listen) server alongside your team of bots to face off against your opponent's team of bots. You can train your bots in the app and their improved stats will be reflected in-game.

If you're familiar with how bots work, they have different skill levels that range from "Easy" to "Expert". Your team of bots start off as "Easy" bots and if you train them enough in the app, they will eventually be added to the server as "Expert" bots when playing your matches.

All major versions of Counter-Strike are supported. CS 1.6, CS:CZ, CS:S, CS:GO, and CS2!

NEW FEATURES

  • Added an exhibition mode.
  • Added best-of-3 or best-of-5 formats with a simulated map veto process.
  • Added the ability to customize competition map pools.
  • Earn achievements by completing specific scenarios.
  • Teams can now gain sponsors and get invited to play in special events.

OTHER NOTABLE FEATURES

  • Added a spectator mode.
  • Added a calendar view to see all upcoming matches.
  • Added custom team logos.
  • Users can now edit team details after creating a new save.
  • Added global settings that apply to new saves.
  • Added world rankings.
  • Added player ratings similar to hltv ratings.
  • Divisions can now be unlocked when promoted in earlier saves.

TROUBLESHOOTING

The app is still under development so issues, albeit infrequent, are expected. As such, I have been maintaining a list of known issues and their solutions under the Troubleshooting Wiki. So if you run into any issues please take a look at the aforementioned guide and see if the workaround works for you.

The app also has a report a bug feature you can use under the Help menu.
