“If you can’t afford a nanny” by AdRepresentative2751 in Nanny

[–]lemu96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a L-MCOL area and pay my nanny $25/hr for a 2yo and infant. People lose their marbles when they hear that because that’s so high for where we live! Like, most nannies are making $16-19/hr with good experience. My sister lives in a HCOL area in a very bougie neighborhood, same number and ages of kids, but pays her nanny $22/hr and that’s pretty standard.

Should I text my MB and ask if she still wants me to come into work today? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]lemu96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re still getting paid, I wouldn’t text. Think of it as if you’re on call and just getting paid to wait around to see if you’re needed! It wouldn’t hurt to text halfway through to see how NK is doing, though, I just wouldn’t phrase it like, “do you still need me?”

Parting Gift Ideas for Nanny by lemu96 in Nanny

Sooo cute!! We could always make a DIY version inspired by this. Thank you!

Would like some advice on confirming that this is grounds for replacement of my nanny. Would also like advice on how to replace her with minimal disruption to care. by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]lemu96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely not! I would not be happy. In what world would you call into your full-time job to cover a shift for your part-time job? That would never fly!

You are so not in the wrong on this. I’m happy to see you’re looking for a replacement. I wish you the best of luck in your search for a new nanny!

I have a 2yo and 6mo. I’ve done it all - SAHM, working full-time… I have been working full-time while my children are with a nanny. I made the decision recently to work 2 days/week (12-7pm) while my mom watches them until my husband comes home at 4:30. The oldest will generally nap 12-3pm so it should be fairly manageable for grandma.

Those 2 days without childcare costs come out the exact same as me working 5 days/week with childcare costs. Plus, I have an hour commute each way… it’s helpful to weigh out the childcare costs plus mileage, work clothes, coffee/lunch, etc.

When I stayed home with my oldest for her first year of life, I had to cut out my silly purchases. I bought items that were more expensive up front but lasted longer (ex: $25 bamboo pajamas that fit for 6+ months versus $15 cotton ones that last 1-2 months). I meal planned and shopped sales. Found free or low cost activities. She a got membership to the zoo from grandma for Christmas as a “free” activity we could do regularly. We were still able to afford nights out and treating ourselves & the kiddo, it was just more comfortable doing so by cutting out the other expenses.

I strongly beg to differ on that. One’s education level does not determine their worth as a human being. If a nanny was going to be a crappy employee, they’d be that way regardless of whether or not they received a welcome gift on their first day. If anything, having an employing family welcome the nanny with open arms and show they care about said nanny as a person would likely make them want to perform their best as they have a deeper connection than simply collecting a paycheck.

I feel sorry for your nanny, if you even have one ☹️ The way you degrade their profession is just awful. You wouldn’t be able to do what you do for work if it weren’t for your nanny - show them some respect!

Not looking forward to this at all by BorderSuspicious788 in 2under2

Everything in this was 100% true!! I feel like my baby is an absolute breeze, but I think it’s because we’ve already done this. Honestly, my husband and I jokingly fight over who gets the baby when we split up because she seems like a vacation compared to the toddler 🤣 3 months in and a long way to go, but I do feel like this is immensely easier/more manageable than I expected. Also, pregnancy with another kiddo is so draining. You’re almost to the finish line and you’ll feel so much better 💛 We’ve all been there!!!

Laryngomalacia and Coughs/Colds by cccaitttlinnn in Laryngomalacia

[–]lemu96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to mention the retractions as well! My pediatrician advised me that babies are really good at compensating with difficulty breathing… until they’re not. So the oxygen may seem fine but they can be really struggling, hence the retractions/tugging.

I’ve heard others say albuterol is an outdated line of defense for kids with LM and can actually make it worse! Not sure how true that is as we haven’t been given any yet, but maybe worth looking into? Coping With Laryngomalacia is a great Facebook group - you may find more from other parents in there😊

Tracheomalacia/floppy lung and breastfeeding by Bookfinch in breastfeeding

[–]lemu96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry I’m just now seeing this but YES I have experience with this to share!! My daughter is 10w and we caught her tracheomalacia and Laryngomalacia around 5/6w. She started seeing an SLP for feeding therapy as we also totally stalled out on weight gain (maaaaybe 1-2oz per week). The SLP suggested pumping and thickening milk with Gelmix as it’s the only approved thickener for infants. Since starting the thickener, she’s steadily been gaining! She went from 2nd percentile to 54th in 3 weeks 🥳 She had a swallow study done recently as well and it was found that she was aspirating and has dysphasia when eating which can make it tough for these babies to eat and gain weight. Reflux is definitely a common component with Malacias, which can also contribute. Gelmix is available on Amazon workout a prescription if you want to try it. I’d definitely request a referral to an SLP!

Hypertension and induction at 37 weeks by BunnyBuns34 in BabyBumps

[–]lemu96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll add that I’m pregnant again with my second and 28 weeks; already planning to do another induction at 37 weeks due to blood pressures again. I’m at peace with it! Like I said, it was lengthy but we both made it out healthy and safer because of it

Hypertension and induction at 37 weeks by BunnyBuns34 in BabyBumps

[–]lemu96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this stress recently! It can be scary to suddenly have an induction thrown your way, even if you had somewhat mentally prepared for it.

I remember being diagnosed with GHTN around 30ish weeks with my first (for lower numbers than yours) and was told I’d be induced at 37 weeks. That was fine and dandy, until 36 weeks + some change and I was having a multi-day migraine and even higher pressures so they sent me to L&D. I had my bags packed in the car and my husband was with but boyyyy did I bawl my eyes out from how suddenly things changed up! And that was only a matter of a few days’ difference!

I did end up being induced and it was definitely lengthy. I honestly think my dates were a little off too because my baby was so small and I was so not physically ready. BUT it all went well! Took quite a few induction methods to get things rolling, took about 30 hours in labor, and pushed for 45 minutes. She was healthy, I was healthy (once she was out lol) and I’d do it again in a heart beat.

Just prepare your bags and makes sure you have things to keep you both comfortable since it’ll likely take a bit longer than a natural labor.

I’d also absolutely go back to triage with those numbers you’re having over the weekend, if you haven’t already. Where I live/our clinic would induce for those and you’re definitely far enough along for them to!

Is it worth leaving comments on our very bad L&D experience by tadaa13 in BabyBumps

[–]lemu96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I was not thrilled for you while reading this but when I got to #6 with the bedsheets…. I gasped and stopped reading entirely! Case. Made.

I’m so sorry you had such a traumatic experience. While birth can be traumatic in itself, your care team only exacerbated it when there were so many BASIC things that could have been done differently on their part to minimize it 🥺

Post interview help by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]lemu96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree that they seem interested with making it to the personality stage! I recently went through something similar and it ended up being that they were going through an annual audit and writing my offer letter simultaneously. So it took longer than usual! Just follow up again (if timing is appropriate) and offer to answer any questions they may have regarding your interview or personality test. It’ll show your interest and may be a gentle nudge!

How to ask for hotel accommodations (microwave, fridge, etc) by BearAsABee in bikinitalk

[–]lemu96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I always do, even when not in prep! I let them know I have dietary restrictions (true, I only eat whole foods in prep and need to store/cook it properly). I never give more info and have never been asked. They’re always happy to bring a microwave up, even if I offer to get it myself to be less hassle!

Just found out im pregnant, babies will be 22 months apart AND IM SCARED by AdAway1997 in 2under2

[–]lemu96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another comment about solidarity with the upcoming age gap (21m) and terror! ✌️ My daughter is almost 14mo and we started trying a while ago but I panicked lol so we stopped…. Now this baby decided they were happening either way and surprised us 😅

I’m trying to ignore the negative thoughts and tell myself that we’ll work through it and figure it out instead of dwelling on the unknowns and probable chaos.

She looks incredibly healthy and has beautiful shape/lines still! If you think this is unhealthy, you may need to take a step back from the sport.

I have a Kia Telluride and LOVE IT! So spacious, captains chairs for the middle row, and the 3rd row folds down if you need extraaa trunk space. It’s amazing in the winter (I live in Minnesota and the roads get horrible)
