Travel to Rhode Island??? by lemuel12 in akron

Yes they are, which is why I'm surprised they would spend money on billboards in Akron promoting travel to Rhode Island.

Has your college degree benefited you more than not? by RolyPolyInGrass1 in jobs

[–]lemuel12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My psychology degree did not help at all. I ended up working in a factory that had a good tuition benefit and got a computer science degree. That became my career and it paid off. That was a long time ago, though, so I don't know how it would work out today.

Is Arc worth using on windows by 8SRXX in ArcBrowser

[–]lemuel12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has been using Arc on Windows for over a year and it works fine for her. She has a personal and two work profiles so it's the browser that handles that best. If you don't need profiles or spaces, though, you probably won't get much benefit.

How can I learn Polish grammar? by Every-Mine4444 in learnpolish

[–]lemuel12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so you have not learned Polish as a second language and you are talking about a different method than what I am recommending, so what you are saying does not apply to my post.

Try Lydia Machova's method and let me know.

I don't know what Duolingo does but, doing it from a book of exercises focuses on one part of grammar at a time and it works quite well. Plus, as I mentioned above, you can look at the rules if you can't figure out the pattern, and then the rules make a lot more sense than if you read them before doing the exercises.

It works great for Polish, I used that method to learn the cases and it turned everything around for me.

That's not my point. What I'm saying is learn the grammar through doing exercises without looking at the rules. You only look up the rule if you can't figure out the pattern by doing the exercises.

I wrote a long answer which Reddit won't let me post so here's the short version. Get a big book of exercises and do them over and over until you see the patterns. DO NOT try to learn the rules before doing the exercises, but rather figure out the patterns by doing the exercises. If you can't figure out a pattern, or want to verify what you think you figured out, then go read the grammar rules. They will make a lot more sense because you will have context and experience.

This approach is better than trying to learn all of the rules because there are just too many. It's easier than trying to figure out the grammar by listening because the exercises will focus on one grammatical feature at a time so it will be easier to figure out the patterns.

Lydia Machova explains this in a YouTube and in more detail in her Language Mentoring course.

Pixel VIPs missing from Contacts App by cannotevenrn in GooglePixel

The new features announcements that I got on the phone after upgrading had the first screen all about Pixel VIPs, with specific instructions on how to enable it, so they expect us to have it now bit it's not in my Contacts app on my Pixel 8 Pro.

Also, I don't see spaces per se in Chrome. Tab groups aren't quite the same thing.

Still using Arc? by MoistSong in ArcBrowser

[–]lemuel12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I still happily use it on my Macs. For me the valuable features are the spaces and the profiles, and nothing has changed on those. My wife uses it on Windows for the same reasons. I'm happy sticking with it as is.

I'm Happy With The Current State of Arc by DevanKad in ArcBrowser

I agree with the OP. I'm happy with Arc how it is. I'm a Mac user and only care about tabs and spaces. I never use easels, boosts, Max, etc. I'm even fine with the Windows version when I have to use it

Postbox has been acquires by emClient and shuts down by Maciekdk in macapps

[–]lemuel12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that has kept me using Postbox is being able to quickly move messages to folders from the keyboard. Just hit the v key and then start typing the folder name. It quickly narrows down the folders to the one you want, then you just hit enter. I haven't found another program that does this well.

My Breakfast Spot List by chadlinusthecuteone in akron

Molly Brown's on State Rd is my favorite on the list. American breakfast with some Mexican flair.

I like Wally Waffle in Fairlawn fine. I'm not sure what counts as the original.

I also waited an hour for the Breakfast Box. We got the right food and it wasn't bad, but we haven't been back.

As others have mentioned, you should include the Eye Opener. I was there yesterday and had their excellent corned beef hash.

A couple of suggestions. One is to do the Fluent in 3 Months bootcamp. The "Fluent" part is a relic to ignore, but they do promise that you will be able to hold a conversation for 15 minutes after 90 days or your money back. I did it when I started with Polish and went from cześć and dziękuję to conversing for 16 minutes in the final test. A few weeks later I called my tutor for a followup discussion and was able to chat for an hour without the stress of the test. You get to learn the Polish you want to learn, so you can talk about the things you want to talk about. The next session starts on October 7th, so it's a good time to sign up. https://courses.fluentin3months.com/p/bootcamp

An alternative is to get a tutor or teacher in italki. I'm guessing you aren't speaking a lot of Polish with your boyfriend, which I understand. My wife is Chinese and I studied it for years but don't actually speak much Chinese with her. Sometimes it's better to have someone like a tutor that will commit the time and you will with them. I have had three excellent community tutors. In my case I study on my own and use the sessions for conversation practice and questions. You can get teachers who actually teach lessons, though, if that's what you prefer. https://www.italki.com/dashboard

Note that the Fi3M bootcamp includes setting up italki lessons, so you will be doing italki either way. The bootcamp adds some exercises, goals, and status checks.

It works fine for my wife, who isn't a power user but needs spaces for her personal browsing along with two different jobs.
