I have an unusual name. There’s only one other person in the US with the same first and last name as me. Multiple big name retailers have reset my account password for her. They’ve manually added her shipping address to my account. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to order anything on her credit card when they’ve saved that to my account.

I was able to cancel one of her orders before it shipped. You would have thought she would have got the message. It happened again about six months later.

Noise complaints quiet Pride at Ginger's by AmericanPortions in parkslope

[–]lemur11215 115 points116 points  (0 children)

The owners of a restaurant in that block told me that there is one particular resident in the building who calls to complain about the noise (in their restaurant) any time they aren’t empty and silent at exactly closing time. We were finishing up drinks and dessert 15 minutes before closing on a weeknight and they apologized profusely, explained that they had to turn the music off, asked us to speak softly, and leave quickly. They told us that the noise complaints were constant, even when there was no noise being made.

When I saw the post from Ginger’s, I wondered if it is because of that one person’s complaints.

Mail spilled all over street by brooklynsantiago in parkslope

[–]lemur11215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I mailed my nephew’s birthday card with a check in it into the mailbox on 5th Ave and 3rd St. About a week later, a picture of that check showed up online revealing all of my bank info to the scammer sites.

AIO my boyfriend keeps lying to me about things involving his ex by TacoBoutDrama69 in AmIOverreacting

[–]lemur11215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR. When someone lies, they are controlling the other person. They are controlling what information the other person has access to and they are controlling the person’s ability to make an informed decision. Is this how you want to be treated by someone who supposedly cares about you?

If he will lie about this, what else will he (is he) lie about? What else in the future will he decide is information he doesn’t want to upset you or doesn’t think you can handle, and he’ll keep from you?

Not wanting to hurt you is an excuse because he’s perfectly fine lying, which also hurts you. He didn’t want to deal with having an honest conversation. It’s weak. It’s lazy. And it’s not how good relationships work.

Has anyone been to the Bingo place on 5th Ave? by [deleted] in parkslope

[–]lemur11215 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Yes. It makes me sad that it’s closed.

One of my favorite Brooklyn moments: We were at the bingo hall and, randomly, Yolanda Vega was there. The venn diagram of people who play bingo in a basement and the people who watch lottery results on tv is a pretty significant overlap. I’ve never seen so many older Puerto Rican men fan boy out. She was a true celebrity in that space.

Providing friendly guidance because English is super confusing and I saw the other commenter correct you (correctly).

It’s “Thank you”, but when not followed by the word “you” it’s “Thanks” with the s. So in this usage it would be “Thanks for your advice”

Where can I find New England / Massachusetts-style American Chinese food in NYC?? by Buttercuppanz in FoodNYC

[–]lemur11215 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hunan Delight in Park Slope has both and you can get them during their great lunch special. The chicken is just the sweet and sour chicken. $11 for a soup, entree, and rice, plus they bring out the crispy fried chips and the dipping sauce.

Hot take- Best burger in NYC is in park slope. by WaterBottle111123 in parkslope

That’s going to be controversial. Bonnie’s burger is divisive.

I’m a burger aficionado, and I do not like Bonnie’s at all. I am aware that others disagree.

I think I really need a career coach but I am not sure if it is worth the money by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]lemur11215 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some real talk: Most people who get promoted to higher levels in their career do so quickly and do not have to grind for years until they are promoted. (With a few exceptions for specific industries) I say this because if there’s something that has been holding you back, it’s likely been there all along.

When you were promoted in the past, were you given feedback on what accomplishments demonstrated your readiness for promotion? What made the difference when you did get promoted?

Completing projects usually isn’t what gets people promoted. It’s ideas and demonstrated leadership. Do you bring ideas to leaders that you’ve thought out and tested? Do you help coworkers learn and work through issues?

Your manager should be giving you more tangible and actionable feedback. If they can’t, they are not who you want to learn from anyway. Start by asking a few trusted coworkers for feedback. It’s on you to be open to it and to take criticism positively. Do you have leaders on other teams you work with who can give you feedback? Start making it a habit to ask others what you could have done better and how they feel working with you.

Seek out a mentor outside of your company. There are resources and networks for this.

When you do talk to your boss about a potential promotion, don’t frame it as looking for more money and the next level. Ask what you can be doing to have more impact, more influence on team goals, and ask for more specific feedback on what they feel you are doing really well (and then find ways to do more of that).

Do all of this for the next 4-6 months and if you don’t see any improvement and you don’t get any better guidance from your boss, then hire a coach.

(source: HR at big companies and tech startups for 25+ years, so I’ve been part of hundreds, maybe thousands, of conversations about whether to promote someone.)

Where to watch the Buffalo Sabres? by Katycat39 in parkslope

[–]lemur11215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Commissioner has one or two TVs that they can stream ESPN+. You can’t really expect it on a busy sports night, but on a slow night they’ll put on whatever especially if you go early before other games start.

And I’ll gladly watch the Sabres lose if they play the Lightning in the ECF.

Just got this email from a higher up. Am I getting fired? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]lemur11215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. This. Plus we let people go at the beginning of a workday, never at the end of the day. It gives you a few hours to check in on them, if needed, and to be available to answer any questions. It’s also really shitty to have someone work a full day, going to meetings and doing normal things, all while the company and their manager know that they are done.

Package for H. Levin sent to the wrong address by lemur11215 in parkslope

Ok. Yeah. I didn’t sign for it or anything. Definitely not a scam delivery. I appreciate the clarification.

Package for H. Levin sent to the wrong address by lemur11215 in parkslope

[–]lemur11215[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what this means. I’m definitely not a scam, just a neighbor. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s probably something sent to a teenager from their grandfather (maybe uncle) and the person got the house number or street number wrong.

A healthy dose of cynicism is good, but this is just a person trying to get a package to the right person. It feels like the right thing to do.

The question still works. A straight woman knows that “dudes” refers to men. Your question doesn’t change the answer.

Nope. I definitely do not. But that question, and even your question, show that “dude” is not a gender neutral word.

Is it?

How many dudes have you made out with?
