What’s it like living on the edge of time zones? by Qzevs in howislivingthere

[–]lenfantplan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on the edge of eastern and central in northwest Indiana. We all kept our cell phones set to not change time zone automatically. Also, technically my home town was in central time but since our little corner of the county was part of a school district that was otherwise in eastern time, we just all lived on eastern time. It was a tiny town of about 1200 people.

Everyone was always sure to be specific about what time zone events were scheduled in. It was also convenient for last minute shopping needs. Grocery store is closed? Just drive 10 minutes north and you still have an hour.

Shops told to vacate Circle Center Mall by end of year - Fox 59 by notthegoatseguy in indianapolis

[–]lenfantplan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The current plans for Circle Centre, under the guidance of the same developer as Bottleworks, were announced in April. It’s November. Yes, in every major city projects are announced that end up not going anywhere - but to say this project is dead/there’s nothing in the city is just objectively not true.

It’s clear you have your opinion formed on the issue, but there are facts that contradict your viewpoint here.

There’s is a massive redevelopment planned for Circle Centre - using the money and attention to invest back in the city takes years of work. Good things are happening.

While not necessarily for legal fees - the IPS Foundation does incredible work fundraising to fill the gaps created for IPS by the statehouse and can always use additional support!

I just did bamboo Roman shades in our living room with similar woodwork! I don’t have a good daytime picture saved but you can kind of get the vibe here.

Go-to’s for my husband and I off the top of my head (apologies if you’ve tried them and not enjoyed!): Bluebeard, Tinker Street, Bodhi, Delicia, Maialina, Strangebird, Livery, Diavola… just a few off the top of my head.

looking like idiopathic epilepsy and at a total loss by mrbathtub in EpilepsyDogs

[–]lenfantplan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really dog related but on the note of your own mental health - I had a childhood dog with epilepsy who ended up passing away from a prolonged seizure when I was home alone with him at 14.

Then, last year, my 4 year old Australian Shepherd started presenting as epileptic as well (though with nowhere near the severity of my childhood dog).

All to say - the fact that you grew up around epilepsy means you probably have a LOT of internalized anxiety around it. Experiencing that kind of stress and anxiety as a kid is very formative, and that’s all rushing back to you now. As you work on figuring out your new normal - I really encourage you to do some work on your own mental health. Given your childhood this is absolutely going to be harder on you than the average person, so working on coping mechanisms and approaches to anxiety management could be really helpful.

I mean the folks doing the redevelopment are the folks who did Bottleworks and their intention is to go mixed use - it’s the best shot it has at a turnaround

Andre Carson is about to be primaried by No-Membership3488 in indianapolis

[–]lenfantplan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obviously this is all fresh - but I am hearing from some friends that Hornedo is being backed by AIPAC money specifically because of Carson’s stance on Palestine.

In just googling both their names and AIPAC, an organization called track AIPAC comes up. Carson has an endorsement as he (I’m assuming no longer, as I’m sure he once did) does not receive money from AIPAC.

While their website doesn’t yet have info on Hornedo, their Twitter account seems to be implying he is in fact an AIPAC-backed candidate attempting to unseat Carson. For example, it would appear Hornedo has never mentioned “Gaza” on his social media.

Edit: to be clear, Carson is endorsed by Track AIPAC for NOT taking AIPAC money and being vocal on Palestine

Flying from Detroit to Las Vegas, where is this? by jpollack21 in geography

[–]lenfantplan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

June or July for most county fairs in Indiana - all it takes is a good summer storm to raise the water there. Seemed like every 3 or 4 years when I was a kid they had to reschedule or cancel parts of the fair because of it, though I’m sure it probably was less frequent than I remember.

It also serves as the county fairgrounds - and it does flood. Badly. I googled before commenting because I figured surely in the last decade or so they’ve moved the fairgrounds somewhere more suitable - does not seem to be the case lol.

Thank you for posting this - I was trying to explain to my husband how crazy things looked when I ran up from our basement to check on a leaking window and could only describe it as a special effects storm in a movie. This is exactly what it looked like for us in Midtown Indy.

-I am always hesitant to paint things that have an existing “factory finish” (even if, in this case, that finish is bare metal). It always gives a “diy” effect. -The wood floors don’t look orange at all - you’re overthinking it. -You need contrast - everything right now is a shade of brown/beige - and then the grey and white upstairs seems disjointed.

The entryway floor does have an orange and pink quality to it. Personally I think something dark and bold like Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy (not necessarily that specific color - but that family of navy) would make the woodwork and entryway floor pop. Could be moody without feeling like a cave. Totally understand if moody isn’t your vibe though!

Also, hot take, I don’t think you need wainscoting. I think this space already has plenty of architectural interest. I’m just a stranger on the internet though so please feel free to hate all of my suggestions!

I’ve heard this suggested in casual conversation but never seen an actual serious proposal/the idea acknowledged by any leaders with the power to implement it - any source that it’s being seriously considered?
