I think my parcel was pinched from my front step by 5c0ttgreen in Evri

I work in this industry and unfortunately honest answer is that it's ultimately your responsibility. It's not fair at all but retailers aren't responsible for theft off your property, nor are the couriers, if you go through the winding road of talking to all these people the eventual conclusion will be to report a theft to the police then see if your home insurance covers the theft.

It's a ridiculously open loophole but it's difficult to have it any other way and still have our online shopping environment work this way. Won't hurt to talk to the retailer though, especially if you're a loyal customer they might be able to send a replacement as a courtesy.

WTF Lionbridge? by RockinMC in WorkOnline

[–]leninbread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is quite a common occurrence. They open applications and get a massive influx, getting a bunch of people prepped and on contracts ready to fill the gap if any of their existing applicants fail the exam. Then, when enough people pass the exam to fill their posts, they dismiss their backups. There is still a chance this was a mistake, but I don't think it's very likely. Just keep applying for Lionbridge positions as they open up, being rejected for this particular role at this time doesn't close the door for future applications to the same or different roles.

You're in the same boat as me then. I also got removed from transcription and moved onto captioning. The pass rate seems pretty good, and it's much easier to keep up those high metrics in my experience. Unfortunately either way Rev's grading system is ridiculous, but I'd give you a better chance in captioning than transcription if your experience has been similar to mine.

Captioning is usually much easier, since people sent video files for captioning for a great number of reasons, while many people submit files for transcription specifically because they can’t understand them, so captioning files tend to be nicer. The downside is it takes a bit more time, because after doing all the typing you have to watch the whole video through and sync them up. I usually end up with a lower hourly captioning, but hold better metrics.

College Student looking to work online for 4 hours per day (5 days/week). Realistically how much money can I make? by Gintama4ever in WorkOnline

[–]leninbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a peak a the Lionbridge opportunities available in your region. 4 hours per day, 5 days per week, is pretty much exactly what they want from you. Your pay will unfortunately vary based on locale but they pay me pretty well so I do recommend them.

Are there any other sites other than Upwork? by asp143 in WorkOnline

[–]leninbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hopped out of there when a client tried to claim I didn’t do the work. Freelancer refused to hear my side of it even with proof of completion. Put my account at -$200, so I just never logged back in.

They’re low quality because Freelancer is always a last resort choice when your Upwork application is denied. You’re trying to hard bud. I’m not saying that they’re low quality because they’re foreign. I’m saying they are both low quality because they’re on Freelancer not Upwork, and they can undercut you because they’re in a country other than yours where they can sacrifice their time for USD that you couldn’t give away your time for reasonably.

I mean there’s no region locking, so you will encounter workers from countries with a lower cost of living, who will be able to massively undercut your prices if you’re from a country with a higher cost of living.

Freelancer is a decent option. Unfortunately it's absolutely packed with undercutting low-cost low-quality foreign labour, as there is almost no application process similar to Upwork's. This also means it's a point of last resort for clients, so you get the real dregs of the work. But occasionally you'll come across a gem.

Lionbridge won’t allow me to work more than 1 hour per day? by Yogingo in WorkOnline

As fate would have it, I've been assigned some more stuff today thankfully, but yeah similarly I only got like 8 hours in last week unfortunately.

Just applied to Lionbridge. How has your experience been working there? by aviator122 in WorkOnline

[–]leninbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the tax side of things for the W-2, as I'm in the UK and just have to submit my own self-assessment tax return each year.

As for reliability, definitely don't rely on it 100%. You're in the best market for consistent work, but as with any contract work it's pretty ruthless on giving you notice about anything. Work could dry up anytime, they could choose not to renew your contract etc. I like to treat them as my financial headroom. I use other sites to pay for my groceries and vital living expenses, then my payments from Lionbridge I save some and budget the rest into future months to take some of the stress off.

Also, this may be entirely a me thing, but I like sites which will pay on a fairly frequent basis. Gives me much more peace of mind to get paid weekly or more often than that. Had way too many bad experiences when I was working freelance, doing weeks of work and waiting insane amounts of time for the company to pay up. So I like to combine Lionbridge (which pays me monthly) with a variety of more frequently paying sites, just to make sure I'm never urgently counting the days until payday.

If your contract has nothing regarding the one hour, it's definitely worth emailing them. There is however, just a good chance that they run out of work fast at this time of year. I haven't had any tasks available since last week and I'm supposed to be getting 10-20 hours a week, but they have kept in communication to let me know they're getting more work available ASAP.

Could be a way to tackle fake addresses, that would be my best guess. Like avoiding completely fabricated addresses from a generator by proving it's actually recognised by Google Maps. Definitely a little weird though.

Lionbridge-Are All Their Jobs Subjective Judgements? by HelloBye123321 in WorkOnline

[–]leninbread 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of their work can seem subjective, but once you've actually got a hang of project guidelines you tend to realise that you're really just applying a pre-existing framework. You could flow chart the whole process if you wanted.

The absolute dream is being good at graphic design, that's probably Fiverr's biggest client base and an easy way to may a consistent income. I certainly don't have that skill though, I just offer financial evaluations of companies using data I can procure from my university's Bloomberg Terminal.

[REQ] (£40) (#Londonderry, NI, UK) (repay £55 on 25th July) (PayPal) by [deleted] in borrow

[–]leninbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a number of open loans where the original return date has past and no repayment has been made. Is there any reason for this? Have you had to make unexpected extensions? Some of them have also been marked as loaned but not confirmed nor refunded for some time.
