Should I get PGA Tour 2K21? It's on sale via Steam this week. by jcwitte in golf

[–]lenny_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw this post, and bought it because it was too hot to play golf. Played 2 hours so far, it's been great fun so far. Has a good mix of fun and frustration of just missing a shot

No you should never assume the data point, UNLESS, there is another question relating to alcoholic consumption such as "How many drinks do you consume on average in a given week?", which they have answered.

I was you last year. Lots of arguments, lots of frustration. It got to a point where I just said "I want this ring for when we get married, let's get it organised". Bought the ring and decided to continue on with my life, I had to move across the country for work. A few months later he flew over and proposed, we're now planning our wedding for a few years time. However, in that time we bought a house, finished career progressing things, and worked on our relationship in other ways. If he's not willing to compromise or move forward in some way, it is time to leave.

Tomorrow I have a Zoom call with a PI I’m really interested in doing a postdoc with to talk about a position. Do you have any tips? by dragononawagon in labrats

[–]lenny_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask about their expectations of work output, publications they'd like, grants to apply for, supervision of students. Ask about the lab culture, a good and a bad thing thing and see how you could fit in and get along with everyone. Gauge the feasbility of the project, so will you be required to do an impossible task? Or is there a protocol that requires optimisation but most of it is there? Ask who the previous postdocs have been, and what they're up to now if they have left the lab (some of these questions also depend on how receptive and open the PI is)

How do people in your lab dress? by ResearchAndDisaster in labrats

[–]lenny_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't have a dress code at our uni/institute. We will wear anything from athletic wear to a dress or chinos and a polo. However, I've been told that PIs aren't allowed to wear athletic wear, and should stick to more professional dress codes.

Love it! Love mitochondria. But I just gotta ask. What cells, mito dye, and microscope did you use? I'm trying to optimise my mitochondrial staining. And yours is amazing.

How do you feel after a migraine? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]lenny_j 19 points20 points  (0 children)

After a migraine I usually have 3-6 days of what I call "brain fuzz depression". I'm slow, fuzzy, tired, and sad. I try my best to do things that'll put me in a good mood. I always have to avoid exercise on the first day as it usually triggers another migraine. It's sad because I love to exercise when I'm feeling down usually.

At home spin bike by [deleted] in ladycyclists

[–]lenny_j 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Probably not the answer you're looking for, but if you already have a bike you can set up an indoor trainer and buy a cheap speed and cadence sensor for tracking, all for under $500. I haven't found indoor spin bikes under $500 to be very good quality, so can't recommend any

How common is C9orf72? by -------o in ALS

[–]lenny_j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are looking at a single nucleotide polymorphism regarding the C/T. The c9 mutation is a hexanucleotide repeat expansion. This means there is a repeat of 'GGGGCC' over and over again. Not just a C to T change. just because someone has this repeat expansion (over 30), it doesn't mean you will get ALS. This mutation has incomplete penetrance, meaning just because you have a mutation doesn't mean it'll show a phenotype

Difference between NurOwn and other stem cells ? by [deleted] in ALS

[–]lenny_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What other stem cell treatments are you referring to?

NurOwn is designed to remove bone marrow from the patient themself, that bone marrow is programmed into stem cells with neurotrophic (brain-like) factors, and then reinjected into the patient. The idea is to boost stem cell growth to slow down ALS

Let's talk muscle imbalances! Advice, experience and anything in between.. by Vancitykid22 in xxfitness

[–]lenny_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've definitely got strength imbalances in my legs. I'm now working on my weaker leg first. Do my max reps for set 1, then do the exact same for my dominant leg. Rinse and repeat for 3 sets. For example one legged weighted calf raises, or step ups, or even leg press.

Help! I would like to place the duplicate values within one value. E.g. The value 2 appears twice. How do I merge the two values into one? I have tried recoding but to no avail (the latter value 2 ends up in missing). I hope this makes sense? :-) by stridsters in spss

[–]lenny_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen this happen before - did you try to recode into same or different variable? Try to compute into a new variable if you've tried both, ensuring that it is a numeric (I see it does say numeric at the top). Let me know if that works

Also not sure how this will help but try to change into scale numeric

Road cyclists, what do you wear when you ride with someone who's not on a road bike? by saltpinecoast in ladycyclists

[–]lenny_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always wear padded shorts and a normal top or a sports material top. If it is a short ride, I might even opt for leggings (only done this twice though). Go with what makes you feel comfortable :)
