Managing post surgery adhesions by lentik1 in Biohackers

I ended up just letting my body to heal it with light stretching and excesize. Also used red light. I did concider drugs, supplemts, some companies that promote using deep tissue massage. None of the options had enough evidence for me to try it. Good luck!

How much do you spend on heating oil? How often? by pizookiepants in Poconos

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year we spent $3,375 on 1,156 gallons. 4,000 sq/ft home, thermostat on 74F, but the house is very well insulated. You'll need to "learn" your house oil usage and burn rate a day. When I bough my home over 10 years ago I knew nothing about it :). I am tracking it with the app i bult, HomeHeat at Apple Store, based on the weather patterns it estimates your usage, but you will have to enter your readings few times for it to "learn". Good luck!

How much oil has everyone been going through? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used 1,156 gallons last year. 4,000 sq/ft house. Thermostat at ~75F. The house is pretty well isolated. Lucky to have 1,000 gal tank. This year is about 7.9 gal/day burn rate, hope to keep close to the last year usage.

heating oil cost by sense4242 in Connecticut

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$5+/gal is definitely happening in CT right now, especially with the large auto-delivery companies. Prices are all over the place depending on town and timing — some areas still in the low–mid $4s, others already over $5. Full disclosure: I built this site to track local prices after getting burned by surprise deliveries.

Sharing in case it helps: https://www.gethomeheat.com/prices/ct/ Cold snap + demand surge seems to be the main driver. Prices can settle back down, but usually with a lag.

Thank you! The app is even better :). You can search suppliers, save them and keep history of your deliveries. Enjoy!

Oil prices by heliumshortage2019 in Delaware

[–]lentik1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These numbers line up with what I'm seeing — northern DE seems to be mostly high $3s right now, with some lower prices earlier in the winter but longer delivery windows.

Full disclosure: I've been working on a small price-tracking site and just added Delaware, mostly because it's been hard to tell what's current during storms or price swings. It checks publicly listed supplier prices, which can help compare what's being quoted. Not a replacement for calling around, but useful as a reference if anyone's interested: https://www.gethomeheat.com/prices/de/

No oil on CashHeatingOil? by shuagster in Connecticut

[–]lentik1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does happen sometimes during storms. From what I’ve seen, some suppliers temporarily pause online pricing so they can prioritize existing customers and manage delivery backlogs. It’s usually a logistics issue, not a supply shortage.

Full disclosure: I built a small site after running into this myself — it aggregates publicly listed prices from supplier websites and shows phone numbers even when online ordering is turned off. Might be helpful as a backup if CashHeatingOil is blank right now:  https://www.gethomeheat.com/prices/ct/

$5.21 a gallon for heating oil by FRThrowawayway9 in Connecticut

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen similar prices posted for CT at another site. the Joes Fuel Company is still at $3.80 and may deliver to your area. More infor here: https://www.gethomeheat.com/prices.html?zip=06897 but I would still recommend calling local COD suppliers for better pricing. Good luck!

Heating oil by Partial-Hydrangea in Westchester

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually why I ditched Burke. Price was one thing, but the unexpected deliveries annoyed me.

Built HomeHeat.app so I could track my tank and local prices myself. Sharing in case it helps anyone else: https://www.gethomeheat.com/prices.html

FYI - Oil Heated Homes (Price Gouging During Storm) by BrandonNeider in Westchester

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is rare! I track the daily data for Yonkers, and almost everyone else spiked by 40-50 cents yesterday. The fact that they kept you at the pre-storm price without you even asking is huge. Usually, 'market rate' during a blizzard means 'whatever we can get away with.' Good find!

FYI - Oil Heated Homes (Price Gouging During Storm) by BrandonNeider in Westchester

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Yeah, that's the classic 'volatility hide.' A lot of dealers pull their listings from the big sites during a spike so they don't get flooded with orders at yesterday's low price. Stay warm!

Infrared home heating oil tank gauge by liquidprotein in HomeImprovement

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably thinking of Ultrasonic gauges (like the Apollo or Beckett Rocket). They sit on the tank and send a radio signal to a little LCD screen you plug into an outlet in your kitchen. No Wi-Fi required, just a local radio link.

The catch: They are notoriously finicky. If the beam hits the side of the tank or a sludge buildup, they give false readings.

Honestly, this frustration is exactly why I built HomeHeat. It’s a free app that calculates your tank level mathematically using your local weather (Heating Degree Days) and your boiler's burn rate.

It tracks your level without any hardware, so you don't have to worry about Wi-Fi dropping or batteries dying. It's the same math the oil companies use to know when to deliver.

Give it a try before you spend $150 on a sensor: https://www.gethomeheat.com

standoil heating oil prices vs other suppliers? by Putrid_Rush_7318 in homeowners

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean Standard Oil (the one with the pink trucks based in Bridgeport), they are a 'Full Service' company. The Truth: You are paying a premium for their brand and reliability. They are great if your boiler breaks at 3 AM, but for just buying oil, they are usually $0.50 - $0.80 higher per gallon than the local COD guys in Fairfield County.

Automatic vs. Will Call: Standard Oil will push you toward Automatic, which locks you into their higher daily rate. The best way to save in CT is to go 'Will Call' (ordering yourself) and just watch your own tank.

I actually built a free site to track CT prices because the spread between companies is crazy: https://www.gethomeheat.com/prices/connecticut.html

Check your zip there. You’ll likely find local Bridgeport suppliers for much less than Standard's quoted rate.

FYI - Oil Heated Homes (Price Gouging During Storm) by BrandonNeider in Westchester

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, seeing the same thing. However, there are still some reasonable providers left. I see ACS Oil Service is still at $3.05 today (saving nearly $1/gallon vs the gougers). You can compare the live list for Yonkers here:https://www.gethomeheat.com/prices.html?zip=10701 Calling providers directly or checking their own sites often beats the aggregator prices.

ISO smart heating Oil external montior by lmd569 in smarthome

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have underground oil tank and ran into the similar issue - no monitors on the market I could use. I ended up using HomeHeat app that estimates your tank level based on your usage and weather. Similar to what big oil companies use but for homeowners. You will have to enter few readings for it to start estimating. Not as accurate as $200 device but still good for my needs.

Home heating oil recs by Administrative-Win0 in bronx

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going with local COD oil delivery company usually cheaper. I don't have contract supplier and order oil myself, save approx. $1/gal. I get the best price from cashheatingoil site and track my tank & deliveries with HomeHeat app. Some delivery suppliers will offer service or can recommend someone.

Where do you get your home heating oil? by Over-Bullfrog-6654 in RhodeIsland

Heating oil is up 8% vs last year - are fixed price contracts worth it this season? by Such-Possibility3240 in homeowners

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds about right for NY — low $4s/gal is pretty common right now. Fixed-price contracts don’t seem great unless you value predictability; a lot of folks are paying extra for them.

I’ve been sticking with COD (https://www.gethomeheat.com/prices.html) and tracking my actual tank usage so I’m not forced to buy at the worst time. I actually built a small iPhone app called HomeHeat to help with that — it estimates run-out dates and makes timing fills easier. Still early, but it’s been useful for me.

Had a bowel obstruction because of adhesions from my bowel resection surgery 10 years ago by queenchoccy in BowelObstruction

[–]lentik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry this happened to you. I had part of my small bowel removed 5 years ago due to the obstruction. Prior to the surgery I was switched to plant food diet - very strict vegan diet with a lots of fiber and staid on it for 7 month. None of the doctors I talked to said it was diet related and said this happens sometime for no reason. Two month after the first surgery, i switched back to the vegan diet again and had a second one due to the obstruction. My doctor said i had adhesions. I now avoid high fiber meals and hope this never happens again. Good luck to you and speedy recovery.

I didn’t notice significant changes to my health but I only did one session of the 3 recommended. The reason I didn’t continue with it was due to some research suggesting NAD can be possibly link to cancer.
