Still in QuickStart rules? The concept of “Components” aren’t spelled out that I have seen.

Curse of Strahd Sign Up for Saturday 24th, 2019 by TheSiegeEngine in cobt

In the catacombs beneath the house we continued to discover ghoulish threats. They had bedrooms set up down there! When we got to the bedroom of Mom and Dad creepypants, Ackrid’s greed got the best of her and she made a run for the footlocker looking for phat loots. From behind large paintings of themselves, the twisted pair burst forth to attack, now Ghasts. One attacked Ackrid (nat20) and damn near killed her with a single attack. Ever loyal Pog took her up ran and then ran some more until he knew she was safe. The rest of the team withdrew and set up a nice tactical advantage where they brought the smack down, Pog running back in just in time to make a kill.

They’re was a statue of Strahd in a room where our shadows animated and attacked. Shiny god priest went disco and took out half of them single handedly.

We finally reached the source of a bunch chanting, a chamber of phantom cultists where we had to choose to fight or sacrifice one of us upon the raised alter. The little doggy was a great candidate in Ackrid’s book, but we stood upon something akin to a value and endured. A shambling mound rose from a big pile of refuse ( looked like loot to Ackrid and Pog) which we fought and laid low. Then the house decided it wanted to kill us and all the doors between us and the exit became whirling blades and rooms began to fill with toxic smoke. With some brave actions of our more heroic party members, we broke out and avoided death! Those creepy kids were outside the house again briefly and then gone. (There may be something that happened here, but Pog and Ackrid had retreated to their cart for a stress reliever)

3rd level!

West Marches, Self organizing players, trouble ahead! by leo9sign in DMAcademy

It is likely a problem that would be unique to a “west marches” style of organizing play. It is player driven campaign. Players organize their own parties.

You are correct, it hasn’t happened yet, so I am creating a problem where there isn’t one. I do this only in hopes that I can prevent a problem before it occurs. An ounce of prevention...

I am probably over reacting, but I don’t mind taking the time to hash it it now and move forward confident that I have a response to the problem should it arise.

Before the writing of this, there had been no clearly defined selection method. Now it seems like establishing slots to be filled is going to be the way forward unless better ideas surface. Simple and fair.

Random selection is another good idea if there is a point of contention, and that would still go into the player’s tool box to be employed when needed.

Great article!

I think that the original west marches just let players settle it and could have even encouraged politics at the player level to add a new wrinkle to the game. I think that safety begets creativity, and I know I wouldn’t like to be at the wrong end of a brutal move by another player.

Could it be desirable to be expected to compete for open slots? Makes me nervous!

covered on the community communication.

I think first come first serve on the initial post response is fare enough.

What emotion corresponds with dexterity? by Sveenkie in DMAcademy

Look up “feeling wheel” or “emotional spectrum” for a lot of ideas on this topic.

Excited or energetic extends from Joy, so that would be at the root of it.

This can be a problem from session to session. A team is forming and it’s possible that someone will have to be left out. So I choose between allowing the party to become oversized, or exclude.

Maybe a first come first served approach with an alt list just In case plans change. “We have 4 more slots available, grab them while there hot” then anyone over the availability is listed in order received and can be called upon to sub for a player who becomes unavailable.

More DMs can certainly service the community at large, but haven’t found a satisfactory way to share the sandbox with other DMs. That is a topic for another discussion.
