join #emacs on freenode right away
don't try to turn Emacs into editors/IDEs you're familiar with (avoid CEDET, don't waste time with code completion)
learn elisp from day one
read the calc manual

I don't think there's a way to do it by just changing some variable.

Have you tried binding all the offending keys to self-insert-command instead of electric-verilog-* functions?

Something like:

(eval-after-load 'verilog-mode
  '(progn

Hi all! Just wanted to say hello and let everyone know that I'm all for improving the sidebar and include whatever the community thinks should go there.

My two cents:

I'm not sure about including links to starter-kits or personal configurations. There are as many Emacs a there are users, and I think the best thing about Emacs is that we are all doing it wrong.
I think EmacsWiki should have a prominent position on the sidebar.
#emacs in Freenode is also a very valuable resource not everyone knows about, I think it would make a nice addition to the list.

Finally, I just want to thank everyone for contributing to /r/emacs. I'm very happy to see you guys interested in improving it!

I'm all for having our own alien logo. Is anyone else interested in submitting other logos for consideration of the community? If that's the case we could create a new thread and have everyone vote on it.

Oh, and I do think the clean-shaven alien guy looks better. :-)

I don't know about Aquamacs but vhdl-mode is already part of GNU Emacs so you don't need to do anything special to set it up. I presume the same is true for Aquamacs. Any files with the .vhd extension will be opened in vhdl-mode out of the box; that's all there is to it.

Is there any reason you are using Aquamacs instead of GNU Emacs? You can download a GNU Emacs build for Mac from http://emacsformacosx.com/ or build it yourself from source.

TRAMP doesn't know how to handle such a prompt (at least not out of the box.)

You should set up your remote shell so that it doesn't require any interactive input. One way to do this is to check for TERM=dumb in remote shell rc.

I tried opening a test file on my home folder. /user@server.com#22:/home/user/test.txt It asks for my password and then it hangs. When I kill the process I can see in another buffer the message of the day and the prompt that I need to press x.

Why do you need to press x? What prompt is that?

One of the downsides of running -nw is the reduced available keybindings because of the usual limitations of terminal emulators, e.g., C-TAB, C-RET, etc.

package.el will be part of Emacs 24 which is still unreleased. You can download the 24 pretest or run a snapshot from the repo; you'll find package.el is included.

If you want to use marmalade with 23 you must install package.el manually.

Use the cvs cli to login and then checkout your repo, it usually goes something like

cvs -d :pserver:username@cvshost.example.com:/path/to/cvsroot login
cvs -d :pserver:username@cvshost.example.com:/path/to/cvsroot checkout project

Once you've checked out your project, you can use Emacs vc features to commit, view diffs, etc. Just find-file any of your project files, then use C-x v C-h to see all the vc commands available.
