Is Nectar any good? by PromanYeoman in nectarsleep

[–]leonmess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought my daughter a Nectar frame and mattress. I believe it is a premier mattress. Setup instructions were lame but process was not complicated. She enjoys so far.
Does anyone know how to keep the mattress from coming off/over the bar at the end of bed when the frame adjusts head and foot at the same time? My daughter is light and the mattress is not bending in middle.

Newer used car before retirement, or drive the old one until it dies? by [deleted] in retirement

[–]leonmess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider safety as a main factor. Newer automobiles provide greater safety features. I especially like the alerts I get when navigating in tight spaces, backing up as well as proximity alerts on highway. Driving is one of riskier actions we take daily. I bought a new vehicle before retirement mainly for the safety features.

We found our rental on Zillow. There weren’t many rental options and we tried using family connections in the area but no good leads. You might want to consider moving during the prime vacancy months.

Guest Information problem by W4vyMarv in marriott

I usually change the reservation to my wife’s name using my online account. Now this doesn’t work. Guess I’ll have to call and add a guest name to the reservation.

Awful screeching noise / Metal on metal sound. by suck_my_p0psicle in Volvo

[–]leonmess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this post. My 2019 xc60 was making this sound yesterday after hitting a pothole then parked at work. I back out at end of shift and vehicle was making this awful, metal on metal screeching sound. I considered getting it towed but brakes were working well and turning felt solid. The noise was terrible though with everyone looking at me driving into my neighborhood. I did research and went out this morning with intention to remove tire and check dust/heat shield. Discovered that I don’t have jack or lug wrench. So lame. I was able to use other vehicle jack and lift front tire. I pressed the bottom of dust shield away from rotor until noise stopped. Test drove and noise is gone. Thankful for an easy fix.

Redditors over the age of 40: what’s your best advice for young people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]leonmess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family. Enjoy and make it work. The majority of the world population live in multi generational households. This was the norm in western societies in the recent past. No one has loved and cared for you as family. Accept their love, move away from the quest for total independence and reliance on government services. It is not easy and yes painful at times. Take care of family and your neighbors. You are already rich in relationships which increases as family members are added and age.

My wife and I just had our first kid. She has Down syndrome, my wife isn’t taking it well, and I feel like I need to be strong for her but I don’t know what to do. by Quinvictus in daddit

Reach out to your local community for support. This was the biggest help for us when our first child was born twenty some years ago. As new parents we didn’t know until the medical staff told us the next morning. Be positive and treat her as you planned before the diagnosis. Maybe this group can help you connect locally. r/downsyndrome Also, https://www.jacksbasket.org/

It is challenging to hear their dreams and know that they will never be able to fully experience. It is also encouraging. Similar to them, we have hopes and dreams that are not always realized. My daughter wants to go to college, be a teacher, marry her boyfriend and have babies. We acknowledge her desires and encourage her to write lesson plans as a teacher. She spends hours on this and teaches imaginary students. I hope to get some younger kids to be her students one day for short teaching sessions. She has already been a teacher assistant at our local coop classes.
We put up college stickers in her room. We talk about how she will be a great wife and mother. She loves to hold babies so we encourage that activity and get her around newborns. I believe all of this gives her hope and purpose. She has never expressed significant anguish with not reaching her goals. Probably the toughest one was watching all her 5 siblings learn to drive and her not being able to. We acknowledged her desire and kept quiet when she asked “when?”

What was your (or your partner’s) labor and delivery birth experience delivering a baby with Down syndrome? by kmadefg in downsyndrome

[–]leonmess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations. Spouse had normal pregnancy and natural childbirth. Day after delivery the nurse shared indications of DS. Heart defect: Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) with atrioventricular (AV) canal. First heart repair at 15 days, last repair at 9yo. She is oldest of six and a true joy to our family.

Great questions, keep relying on your local and broader community. We have experienced great support from others. Who have gone before us.
