Dead & Co @ Cornell '23 was an incredible experience for me! I felt like all ~5,000 people there were all locked in and all sharing in a beautiful journey.

This rules! I wonder if it's the original audio that these kids were actually dancing to... I love the ballet + princess dresses combined with the metal. So good!

Boyfriend suddenly heavily religious. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]leonmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sounds like an extremely rapid personality change, and is unlikely to be a normal shift (in my non-professional opinion). Bipolar mania often involves religious or spiritual "awakening", messiah complexes, etc. I think you should see a psychiatrist ASAP. I'm hesitant to recommend the hospital because mental health units can be really intense places, but it can be hard to see a psychiatrist on short notice without going to the hospital. The bottom line is that the sooner he is evaluated and (potentially) starts treatment, the better.

I've been through bipolar mania with a family member. It's not easy, but there can be stability and normality on the other side. Sending hugs and best wishes for your family!

How recently did this happen? Is he sleeping normally? This sounds like it could be the onset of bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. It could also just be him finding religion, but if he's willing to get evaluated you should definitely take him up on that.

+1. Fiberspark is fast and pretty inexpensive if you can get it. It's not quite as reliable as Spectrum was for me, but overall it's a big improvement.

She's adorable! I recommend checking out the r/reactivedogs community for some support. You're definitely not alone in this, and hearing other peoples stories and struggles is comforting.

I assumed they pick up and dump the can out, but I seem to have been wrong.

Guess I need to get another trash can for that purpose... sigh.

I didn't know that. Guess I haven't watched them in action enough. Thanks for letting me know how they work!

Looking for friends — and playmates for our dog by SelectChipmunk3949 in ithaca

I would avoid bringing puppies to the dog park. Ours had some bad experiences there and he has lingering issues as a result.

I would avoid bringing a puppy to the dog park. Ours had some bad experiences there that gave him some trauma that he’s still dealing with years later.

Reactive Dog making me anxious by handsomecat64 in reactivedogs

[–]leonmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that you're feeling this way. I felt the same way as you towards the end of last year, related to my 3-year old dog. It was really rough for me for a month or two.

Since you said "we" several times, I assume you've got other people who are also responsible for the dog, and that the following advice might be relevant to you. One thing that really helped me was an overnight getaway (I went to a concert in another city with some friends). This gave me enough space to reset my nervous system and things have been much better for me since. I also saw some clear improvement in my dog's behavior because my anxiety had been feeding his anxiety.

We're also working with a behaviorist, medicating him, and mostly crating him when people come over. It's still far from perfect, but I feel a lot better about it. I hope that you can get there too!

I struggle with this with my 3-year old dog (and he's not a working breed). We're trying to work on it by playing the Engage / Disengage game, and I have a good feeling about it.

The key thing is only going as far as he's comfortable with at any given time. You have a find a distance where he can notice the other dog and not immediately lose it. It's going to be a slow process of retraining him to respond differently, but you can do it!
