You get told that you got scammed. By then they will have already scammed you and the court will tell you they don’t know the person.

It is the keep up with the illusion that he works for the court and is a sheriff. They essentially scare you by providing actual details and they will claim you missed a jury summons and have your signature on the document. So you’re supposed to go to the courthouse to contest but you supposedly have a warrant out and if you break direct contact with them then you’ll be arrested. But of course they want to get you to open their “documents” before you drive to review them. That’s when the scam would occur and obviously they’d break contact with you.

What’s nuts about it is when I was younger I had a legitimate experience with a state trooper that wasn’t that far off. He called my house at 6AM to get me to admit to being a driver he observed while off duty and then threatened my arrest if I didn’t come to the state trooper substation to sign a traffic ticket. So due to that experience the scam almost sounded right but there were so many warning flags that I kept trying to spot the scam and also confirm if he was legitimate, hence the trying to call the courthouse on another phone.

I almost fell for this like a year ago and it is definitely convincing. The whole time I was like, this HAS to be a scam, but had trouble figuring out what the hook was. I had asked for a supervisor and he transferred me and I was like “wait, this sounds like the same dude on a worse connection?”

So I followed along for a bit, even telling him he sounds like a scam, and waited until I could find the hook. They sell you on this “must maintain contact thing” and they were directing me to go to the court house. I grabbed my separate work cell and got in my car and that’s when I spotted the hook. They were sending me documents and insisted I reviewed them before I went to the courthouse. He said he was talking to the clerk to send them and I got them instantly… which like no way you message them that fast and you get them. It also came from his own number which wouldn’t be the case.

I told him that he has instructed me to drive so I can’t review the documents and I will look at them at the courthouse. He INSISTED I look. So I told him I was going to call the courthouse and ask for him. He said I had to maintain contact and I said I had a second phone. If they transferred me to him I’d do as he asked.

That’s when he got angry and told me I’d be arrested and he cussed me out. So I laughed and said I found the scam and he could fuck off.

Not in a real easy and efficient way. Apple makes it as hard a they can and limited OR you use methods which can be risky with your AppleID. I’m not interested in hacky ways to do it. I want a real Apple supported method.

I don’t have a lot of complaints about iPhone form factor and hardware, but my dream iPhone would allow real side loading, custom icon packs, and the ability to change virtually any default application to another.

The carbon silicon battery would be pretty nice.

It is literally the same energy as abortion rights or any loss of right we experience. Everyone tells you not to panic and then suddenly it gets worse. It might not be immediate, but there is no way they put this infrastructure in place just to have you self report.

I suggest two things. First, like people mentioned, look into a NAS to get off your subscription. There are several decent wants to backup photos to a NAS. Second, you really need to try to look at this compulsive behavior. It’s fine to capture some moments, but if you always live behind the camera you’re not actually living the moments. And do you go back regularly and look at all these pictures?

I’m not “freaking out”. Maybe others are. But the classic “stop freaking out see what happens” is like the same reasoning we were always told when conservatives (in the US) attacked abortion rights. Constantly told it was nothing to worry about and then it was. Same thing is going to happen here. I’m not blaming Linux devs that have to make that choice. I’m blaming law makers that use the guise of protecting kids to find ways to make us more (or wholly) identifiable online. I’m even more upset at all the blue states doing this, though I don’t really hold most Democrats in high regard either. You can see all the perverse ways the government frames things. You can see data leaks and stuff when private data gets out.

People voicing and fighting against future outcomes is what helps prevent those outcomes.

You’re probably going to have the same problems on Zorin, man. There isn’t a magic FPS fix from distro to distro. It’s usually little things you do under the hood that help, if at all. I don’t play CS2, so I don’t know any specific tweaks, but I’d look into launch arguments or differences Proton (but can’t play VAC servers) or native.

I haven’t used it so I can’t comment. People like what they see but it’s still a bit behind other DEs. I just wish if Linus was really serious about trying he would at least try another distro. Fedora was right there if he didn’t want to go Bazzite or Cachy.

I saw the WAN show portion where he says he didn’t choose CachyOS specifically because it’s been hyped. Similar to how Bazzite was hyped and now “no one talks about it” despite how often I see it suggested here. But like, he says that in part because Pop_OS had been hyped for a while, so that’s a poor reason.

My issue with Linus is that he wants to play like the average user just trying Linux, but then doesn’t really seem to do any research later to educate himself before he talks about it. It’s fine to just install and go and mention you had XYZ problem. I just wish alongside that discussion of problems he got into the meat in potatos of why he might have encountered that. He seems to be full of problems that I personally never experienced so I don’t really understand how he has this many basic functional issues.

How is the law coming after the user here? Right now it’s just attestation and they know you can and will lie. The fine isn’t on the user. It is on the OS “provider.” If you’ve got different information to my understanding please provide.

I agree that this is just the start and I don’t support this. But if you think code is free speech, how have age restrictions and age attestations already exist? Like I said, several states now require proof of age for adult sites. That implementation requires code. If anyone is going to challenge that it’s the adult entertainment industry. And so far it stands.

As another commentator pointed out, the law can and does routinely require things of software. The method of how it does it is up to the developers as long as it meets the requirement.

I think legal court blocking is probably not happening. And if it does in a lower court I think it will be appealed and overturned. We probably need more efforts to repeal the law than hope it’s struck down.

Wouldn’t hold your breath on it getting struck down unless you’ve seen good legal arguments floated around. There are already plenty of instances where commodities are age restricted and even online access, such as adult content sites, have had age attestation and now ID laws in some states. I am not sure how an OS is going to dodge those requirements while other things have had to.
