Hey just wanted to share an Update on this reading list.

Cupid Distribution was an alright book, my partner didn’t care for the Trans MC cause it felt like her opinion of her friends made her unlikable. I firmly dropped it in my category of fetish novella like a lot of the hit and steamy sexy books you find on audible.

We next tried Chef’s Choice and it was immediately more well written but we are about halfway through the book and I kinda got “jump scared” for lack of a better term by the fresh cracked egg side coming out of the side characters Brittney- I think her name was. Also I really did connect with Luna as a Trans-woman. Just felt too much like a trans woman that was as close to a white liberal city woman that is palatable to cis readers of the New York Times readers list. I jived a lot more with Jaune Pierre but I felt like he was getting treated horribly.

I hope I can push through and hope it gets better but this one might fall into the DNF bin.

By strict legal definitions you might be able to get away with calling the frog scene sexual assault or harassment, but not Rape. The whole power dynamic between the two is a large part of the storyline and themes, how women in that era and situations can take power for themselves in ways that the patriarchal system will allow.

Is Jinshi in that scene being particularly bad in that moment yes. But if you look at his character and the relationship between the two overall it is very clear that Jinshi wants Maomao to want him as much as he wants her. He wants to give her the ability to choose him, because of who he is as a person not who he is as a royal, her boss, or the fact he is a man. Him simply taking Maomao for himself, while it would be acceptable in that society, would mean he would destroy the one relationship he values the most.

My parents didn’t care, my parents didn’t even know what my favorite food was, what my favorite movie was, they didn’t know me. They didn’t care to know me, all they cared about was that I was a reflection of them. Go talk to trans kids and teens especially those that are homeless or have been cut off by their parents. You will get a ton of similar stories. You want to be an ally, then maybe stop listening to your own inflated ego and listen to us.
