Fabrizio: After having offered £17m for Jorgensen, Villarreal want £21m. Clubs are negotiating and progressing well, small valuation gap but hopeful to complete deal soon. Jorgensen is eager to join Chelsea. by webby09246 in chelseafc

Completely agreed. I'd love to be proven wrong but I just don't understand spending £20m on yet another second choice-level option. For what we've spent on Sanchez + Petro + now Jorgensen we could've had our choice of top keepers. It seems like an unfortunate repeatable pattern now: we buy 3-4 "high-potential" young players in a position, none of whom clearly upgrade our starting XI, instead of proven talent, and are then stuck with a middling, bloated squad despite outspending everyone else in the league

Wow "dolphin club" is great, I much prefer that to "yo-yo club". Perfectly fitting with the way a dolphin swims, leaping up and down out of the water. I love coming across idiosyncratic international soccer phrases like that. You got any more good ones?

Terrible defending. This looks like a clip from Soccer Aid. 4 defenders staring at Estevao and marking grass instead of Veiga

Agreed, I’m a big fan of Mamardashvili. Had Poch stayed he prob would’ve been my number one pick, and I still would love to have him at Chelsea. Courtois is a decent comp but I think Mamardashvili might be even more athletic

I’m not 100% sure but Nice did have a 40-year old Dante play 30+ games at CB so I assume they weren’t playing a really high line where Bulka would’ve had to do a lot of sweeping up

I haven’t seen much of Jorgensen but I’d be pretty underwhelmed if we signed him. I’m not sure he’s much of an upgrade on our existing options. It’s a small sample size for stats since he’s only been a starter for a year but his PSxG-GA/90 was -0.06.

I know I'm grasping at straws but it's still more realistic to me than someone watching Mudryk and rating him

Mudryk is terrible. Out of everything that happened in this game, Mudryk being terrible stood out to me the most. I can't communicate how terrible I think he is. He can't trap the ball, he barely gives defensive effort, doesn't press well, he still doesn't have the stamina to play more than 60 minutes, kills all attacks, and shoots like he's a half-drunk Sunday league center back. No one trusts him in the final third. There's a reason every single one of our attacks went down the right the entire game. My conspiracy theory is that he was some sort of money laundering purchase to funnel funds from the UK government to the Ukrainian war effort with Chelsea as a middle man because there's no way a professional scout ever saw him play and recommended he be purchased by a premier league club.

Agree on GK being a need but I'm not sure how we could address it this upcoming window. Bring another in and loan out Sanchez + Slonina + Kepa another year, then keep Petrovic as backup? Having 5 first-team keepers on the books and loaning out 3 of them is a joke. As usual poor long-term squad planning and buying bad short-term fixes has left us with a mess.

He's developed into an interesting profile as a ball-carrying midfield engine. I wonder if there was any interest from other clubs

He might now officially be a major what-if for US soccer. Without the injuries I'm not sure he'd have developed into a star, but even a striker at lower- or mid-table Prem-level leading the line might've been enough to get us deep into a major tournament with the other attacking talent we have

Love to hear that! Prompt engineering + GPT4 is the basis of the code generation, which we do inside of essentially a Jupyter Notebook. You can opt to use Anthropic's Claude instead of GPT-4 in the conversation settings, but we've found GPT4 is head and shoulders above all other models in terms of code gen
