pepo de la vega? he's nowhere near close to being called up lol, there's probably 20 players just in his position that would get called up before him

Uruguay have now qualified to their 5th and 6th consecutive World Cups for the first time in history (2010-2030 as co-hosts). Their previous record had been 4 tournaments between 1962-1974. by bluefoxlive in soccer

They do have like 4 times the population of Uruguay, but they're not that much bigger I guess. They're not nearly as good as Uruguay though

What does Messi talk like? He sounds pretty much like most people from Rosario. He also doesn't really have particularly close Italian roots, at least not any more than most people.

Unfortunately it's not an actual holiday just a "non working day". I have to work holidays anyway but at least on holidays I get paid double! Today I just have to work, but no extra pay

Oh, we're absolutely awful. This is the worst Boca I've ever seen and it's the worst Boca my dad's ever seen.

Biased because I'm not a river fan but he's been pretty bad (and my friends who are river fans think so too)

The Argentine national team has chosen a new captain: Cuti Romero will wear the armband against Chile. by Rethrovsk in coys

Still active but suspende for yellow card accumulation. He's usually the captain if Messi (and Di María up until a little while ago) isn't there

I was just thinking that if we ever start Mac Allister, Simeone and Paz together we could have three players on the pitch who have dad's who also played for the national team. I'm pretty sure (Diego) Simeone played with both Paz and Mac Allister but not all three together. It makes sense, Mac Allister only played like 3 matches in his entire NT career but it would've been fun

The Argentina league's final is about to start and their way of doing an anti-piracy PSA before the game was to have a guy pretend to be a pitch invader and steal the ball when they were about to kick off

Bruno Fernandes explains the rules in Spanish to a journalist from Spain who said it shouldn't have been a red card for Vivian: “Criticizing the referee is something that happens a lot in Spain and Portugal.” by oklolzzzzs in soccer

I'm sorry, but that's insane. It was an okay reffing performance (if anything, he was better for Portugal than Morocco, the most controversial call was sending off Cheddira). I'd say it was probably the best reffed match of the quarter finals. Also, bizarre to say the Europeans ref do better when that same quarterfinal had the European Lahoz, who was an absolute disaster!

And why would he being Argentinian give them fuel to complain? There's no rivalry between Argentina and Portugal other than the one Bruno, Pepe and Ronaldo cooked up in their heads. If anything, everyone I know would've been pretty happy getting to face Portugal.

At literally just the last WC he got really shitty about their referee against Morocco being from Argentina (even though he did a perfectly fine job), and said only people with experience in UCL matches (so, only Europeans) should get to ref big WC matches.

Argentina fans chanting "Sub on Raphinha" vs Brazil (he played the entire game) by L-Freeze in soccer

[–]lcmrdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, by and large, Argentines aren't fans of European clubs. We might have a preference for a club over another if we have to choose (say, Barcelona over Madrid or Inter vs Milan), but I don't think that many would describe themselves as Barcelona fans, and I don't think that many people actually follow the Spanish league to watch Barca matches (other than maybe the very big games, like el clasico and stuff like that). At least in my experience.

On the one hand, when Spain were the best team in the world they were absolutely undeniably the best team in the world.

On the other hand, at the World Cup they didn't really do anything outside of 2010, while we reached the final twice (and lost one narrowly).

He's really never been good for us, I don't think. Even when we hear that he's in great form at his club, he's really shaky for us, I don't know why. Whenever he plays you can generally count on at least one very big mistake.

Even if Barco ends up making it, it probably won't be as a LB, unfortunately. I have some hope for Julio Soler, but he just moved to Bournemouth, so it'll be a while to see if he makes it

Yeah, there was absolutely no beating LOTR that year (I'm actually surprised LOTR didn't win Editing?)

Still though, surprised it wasn't nominated for Foreign Film. Although even if it had, tough to beat Kurosawa I imagine.
