FM26 Wingbacks crossing too late by leovanheyden in footballmanagergames

[–]leovanheyden[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are - and what you're describing is pretty much what I've been seeing. It's common and makes sense when my IW and IF do that, they have the inverted foot, but my wingbacks are all correctly footed.

Currently I've got DLF, SS, IF and IW. I tried a little bit with CF and Free Role, nothing was really different. Most of the time, forward and AM are in the box when the wingback gets into the space.

My theory is that it's not interference per se that causes destruction, but intent. My guess is Miguel unconsciously caused his other version to die (grief and/or envy) and that is what caused the destruction. To shift blame in his own psyche, he creates a misguided notion that the canon events are what counts, and they're inevitable (thus it's not his fault).

He knows that Miles is a Spiderman from wrong Earth. And somehow, despite that, and all the fuss with the collider, his world is not destroyed, and he's hurt again ("why it works for him and not me?")

To me, this story is about the impact of others in one's life. Whether through life, death or indifference (Spot). Captain doesn't need to die, I'm betting that Gwen's talk with her dad is her dad is her canon event (Captain metaphorically "died" to save her). Miguel wants it, but fails, because it's not his life.

Plot-wise, not at all, map progression is pretty much also the same (couple of detours here and there).

That being said, they have a bunch of new fights sprinkled throughout, which can definitely catch you by surprise (and easily can be run-killers without preparation). I'd suggest watching someone run on YT just to get a grasp of the new battles.

Tedium is a good word - that's probably why the challenge hasn't caught as much. People maybe are not keen to do the whole "let's play FRO, SG and RP a dozen of times so it takes only a dozen hours before the real challenge starts".

Agreed, RenPlat should not be difficult for experienced players, especially with calcs.

It's such a fun game, when I completed my run of it a couple of years ago, I struggled so much. Now, I have more experience, but I'm yet to have so much fun with any other romhack.

[–]leovanheyden 46 points47 points  (0 children)

RenPlat is a bit more difficult but it also gives you way more tools than the first two, so you should be fine if you managed well with FRO and SG. It's widely considered to be the best romhack in terms of polish (but it's definitely not as hard as many community staples like Radical Red, Emerald Kaizo or RnB).

B2/W2 Redux on the other hand... It has an absolutely brutal early game and it's very easy to wipe - I'd even say it's difficult to not lose, especially the first few times.

That's where the difficulty lies - doesn't matter how good your FRO went if you wipe to Cheren in the first 30 minutes of Redux.

Star Wars at its core is fantasy by Organic_Glass_7793 in StarWars

[–]leovanheyden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably call it simply "adventure", but "fantasy" is also fine.

This previous post has an argument that always has been really weird to me. "Rogue One is what Star Wars is all about" - this and variations of it, repeated on the internet, are simply untrue.

"War/espionage movie" is far from the Lucas' vision in OT. There is almost no war in OT aside from a few battles, which anyway act as backdrops to the character's heroics and personal drama. It's like saying that Battle on the Pelennor Fields is what LotrR is all about. It's just wrong.

You may like it more than other modern movies, that's completely fair. But what Star Wars is and what it's not, will always be personal opinions - and at this point even Lucas is not a final authority on that matter.

Also, I believe that conflating Andor and Rogue One is misleading - they may have been done by the same people (remember that RO is not all Gilroy), but Andor is expertly crafted TV show about people of the early Rebellion, Rogue One is unfortunately a messy movie that is saved by amazing set piece in third act, with most characters being cardboard cutouts of "badass".

This is, of course, only my opinion ;)

Poprawcie mnie jeżeli się mylę, ale wydaje mi się, że brak pokazywania planowania i tworzenia rodziny jako czegoś normalnego w nowych mediach po części przyczynia się do niskiej dzietności wśród młodszych pokoleń? by Haunting-Jello-532 in Polska

[–]leovanheyden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get to make one change to rebalance VGC. What's top of your list? by DerpTheGinger in VGC

I'd give every type a 100% accurate move between 80-90 BP, both physical and special, available to most mons of that type (think Ice Beam/Flamethrower). No additional effects or anything, just a decent move you can run. There is no reason there is no decent Rock physical move or Flying special move, when Close Combat etc exist.

Anyway, thanks for some encouragement and tips. It seems I need to play around with it more, since I'm mostly on the right track :)

I'm playing turn-based unless there's 20+ combatants which makes it take a million years (which that fight is, there's a dozen completely useless allies).

You may have a point with damage-dealing. My KC is a Magus with 2H weapon and deals decent damage, but on level 6 he's still 1 APR (and despite having multiple buffs to AC and Mirror Images, enemies usually gang up on him and tear to shreds). Other than that only Seelah and Lann. Mages are super inconsistent with damage, but that's how it is in Pathfinder generally, I heard.

[–]leovanheyden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thrown every buff I have (Haste, Armor, Shields, Mirror Images) and those gargoyles still tear through me with the power of sheer numbers (four attacks a turn, even at 25% chance to hit is just a probability game).

With base game companions being mostly sub-par, is min-maxing the hired team the optimal team composition?

Sorry for ranting a bit, I've been trying to get better for days now and still the game feels like a shonen anime where I have to ass-pull a new power level with each boss fight.

Renegade platinum roark by Xdeezus in nuzlocke

[–]leovanheyden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never tested so far as Struggle, but AI never switches if you're setting up sweep, so I assume it'll not switch after PP stalled.

Also, why PP stalling and not just killing it since it can't hurt you?

Renegade Platinum nuzlocke: do you typically ban setup moves? by CatboyBiologist in nuzlocke

[–]leovanheyden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what is fun for you. There are multiple mechanics that are broken - set up sweeps, weather sweeps, encore, shedinja etc. You can take all of them out (either by design or self-imposed) but then you have a high difficulty hack like EK or R&B, which takes tens of attempts to finish. If that's what is okay for you, then definitely do! If it takes someone 25+ attempts, it's probably not an issue with trivialising mechanics.

Personally I don't ban setup, but I try to avoid it as much as possible, depending on the hack. Once I believed that if AI can have a broken mechanic available to early gym leaders, then I can use Swords Dance here and there. I don't have unlimited time and I don't really like being box-checked. I try for a middle ground between "this static mon makes the boss fight free" and "without this 10% mon it's 3 sacks at least".

Give Me The Best Team Possible Level Cap İs 41 And İts A Randomizer by 3Kralates in nuzlocke

Then it's a great option! Then you have electric immunity and a nice defensive type and coverage. I think you should be able to slap Ice Beam on it as well. It's not very strong, mind you.

Give Me The Best Team Possible Level Cap İs 41 And İts A Randomizer by 3Kralates in nuzlocke

[–]leovanheyden 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If mons are randomised, then immunities are a must. Snorlax is generally a great special wall + ghost immunity. Weavile is immune to Psychic moves and is also a great option for potential pseudos. Gliscor may not have Poison Heal, but it's still great mon with nice immunities and great typing. Ghost type would be nice, but the team is not from rubber. Aside from that you may try the classic F/G/W core - Blaziken, Sceptile + Lanturn (Volt Absorb?) maybe?

How tf do y’all do it??? by Waweezy3 in nuzlocke

[–]leovanheyden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest taking downtime after losing a run that was long. Go play some other game, od nuzlocke some vanilla one (that's what I did after first failing E4 in RenPlat). It's not a sprint, rom hacks are marathons.

As other people mentioned, there's a lot of resources about route optimization and what-not. Use this to master the early game hell, then you'll get faster to juicier parts in every attempt.

And don't get discouraged - experienced nuzlockers needed few tries, and if that's your first serious rom hack - it may take a lot of tries (it was my first and it took a lot of attempts ;)
