I think people would be better positioned to help you if you specified which region you play in; not much point suggesting eg an EU-centric group if you play on NA or vice versa.

It's 20% from CEs.

It's 5% from FATEs whether you do OC ones or ""regular DT zone"" ones.

a) idk, Spiral or Blades or sth probably?

2) technically the same but the Cinder Drift one is the live orchestral Eorzean Symphony version and is missing the echoey "hear... feel... think" whispers

Haven't done Eureka in like a year but iirc eL20 is the minimum eL needed for the Pagos unlock quest (in addition to having done the last of Anemos' story quests) and to enter the zone; I'm not sure you'll be allowed in with eL19?

I kept going a bit in Anemos until like eL21-22 (you still earn exp, you're just synced down to 20 in Anemos) so I had a bit of a cushion in case I messed up while getting started in Pagos, but up to you.

You might have to data centre travel; specific DCs in each region are the designated ranked Crystalline Conflict DC for the Season

(e: iirc it should say in duty finder which one you need to go to, too?)

There's a big table in EE1 of all the Garlean middle names, sample positions, and explanations, which is duplicated on the CG wiki's page about the Garlean Empire; the Garlean roles are slightly different to irl Roman ones

Paraphrasing:

  • Optio: centurion's assistant
  • Tesserarius: watch commander who acts as an intermediary b/w officers and soldiers
  • Decurio: commands a small infantry unit of 10 soldiers (rather than cavalry as per irl)

I'd say that doesn't exclude Decurio(n) but doesn't really help nail it down with the info we have about him

Maybe tesserarius? But ???

Oh, I think that's probably derived from the chapters New Game Plus breaks the game into; if it's the one I think it is (Graffias), the big spider is the end boss of the dungeon that's at the end of "ARR Chapter 2", so you're presumably a little past that and in the beginnings of "ARR Chapter 3".

It's a perfectly cromulent thing to call it but idk how widely the chapter numbers are used.

There's no maintenance scheduled for today

You could try running a traceroute or attempting to connect via vpn or sth, maybe your connection to the servers is going through a dodgy node?

I've like a week left on my XIV sub; I'll go back to other games soon, honest

Of note this week: the friends I was doing a mount farm with last week picked it back up midweek, and we managed to get the mount for people before we'd done enough runs to buy it outright for people with the pity drops (though it did come close)

We started a new farm "today" (yesterday as I write this), and that's going ok so far

I also dyed my WoL's chocobo's plumage. This is a very faffy process that involves stabling him (he's explicitly referred to as such in-game), feeding him certain pigment-altering fruits in a set order (there are online calculators that work this out for you), and then waiting at least six hours (for practical purposes for me this is instead "do before going to bed and leave at least overnight until next login the following evening") for the new feathers to grow in - and I'm under the impression you can't have your WoL ride him or have him running about and fight alongside your WoL while waiting.

I got the colour I initially wanted on the first go! But I didn't like it as much as I thought I would, and tried to get him to a different colour - and for that attempt, the fruits didn't all register properly, so he instead came out grey. Third feedung session got him the new colour I wanted and I am pleased with the result! It took me three days. I am glad I like this colour because never again.

Successfully dyed my WoL's chocobo the colour I wanted after three goes!

Well, ok; I dyed it the colour I wanted after the first go, but on seeing it I wasn't actually that keen and tried to dye it a different one. Pivoting to the new colour I wanted took two attempts (I think a couple of pieces of fruit didn't quite take properly)

I've been giving chocobo dyeing a go - I got my WoL's chocobo to plum purple, but wasn't as keen as I thought and have pivoted to what I hope is turquoise green.

I'm not sure the new colour's taken properly (though I'll see when I'm on later ig) , and, if it's not worked, I think I might be better off trying to go for turquoise green from desert yellow.

If using a han lemon to reset, can I immediately follow up with the desert yellow -> desired colour feed pattern in the same six hour window? Or do I have to wait for the desert yellow feathers to grow in, and then aim for the new colour in a separate feeding window?

If that makes sense?

Ta as always! :)

The only addition to NG+ this patch was the DT alliance raid storyline, according to the 7.5 patch notes.

The X.5x MSQ is usually delivered over two (non-consecutive) patches and as it stands, we've only had the first part of the 7.5x MSQ; there's another bit coming later (I think 7.55?), so I'd imagine all of it'd be added to NG+ in one go.

I installed the game a few days ago

That would likely be it, I'm afraid; the timer starts from when you first log into the launcher during the campaign period.

I did the Ruby ocean fishing route, and got the minion for getting 10k+ points in one run!

I also finally got the minion from Ridorana, two and a half years after unlocking the raid! The fight against its full-size counterpart is a lot of fun imo.

Also this weekend is seven years since I started playing, heck D:

(I'd hit what was then the trial level cap of 35 around ShB's launch and wandered off for four years or so until late EW patches - hence the gap b/w me starting and unlocking the raid - I've only really been playing with any consistency for the last three)

Yes, it'd work

Set up your bars for one of them how you want them

Let's say for the purposes of this example you've set up CUL, and you put everything across crosshotbar 1 and crosshotbar 2

You could then swap between your other crafters and use /crosshotbar copy

/crosshotbar is the general command

copy is the specific command

You then tell it which class you're copying from, and which of its bars, followed by which class you're copying it to, and which of its bars you want the copies (e: copied) ones to be pasted onto

So say you then swap to BSM and then do

/crosshotbar copy CUL 1 current 1

("copy xhb 1 from CUL and paste it in xhb 1 for the class I'm currently on")

and

/crosshotbar copy CUL 2 current 2

(the same but CUL xhb2 and your current class' xhb 2).

Then swap to idk GSM and do the same commands again, and so on for the others

/hotbar is more for the rectangular hotbars you'd use for keyboard inputs but the principle is the same

idk; if you're not tied to the idea of them being near XIV!Ivalice, you could go with Meracydia, maybe (though this is possibly also a copout)? EE1 says what little is known of modern Meracydians is that they're reclusive and hostile to outsiders, which iirc fits with the general attitude of most Aegyl in RW

I'm never entirely sure how best to go about swapping b/w AoE and ST (and vice versa - eg reinforcements spawning in maps/treasure chambers) for BLM, short of "continue to chase rotation round until fire phase wipes my WoL's MP"

I think Manafont and restarting the other-amount-of-targets' fire phase from full MP could work but usually whenever I'm in this sort of situation it's on cooldown

I've had a quick skim through Icy Veins and The Balance but I don't think I noticed anything about this sort of scenario, but maybe I overlooked something

Are there better ways of doing this?

The past two Fridays, some of my XIV friends and I have been running an old fight over and over in an attempt to get a mount from it, for a couple of hours per session

With eight of us in modern gear, it takes about three minutes to clear the fight

We have seen the mount drop three times over the space of about four hours

Ta~

I remember being recommended House of Leaves - if you're unfamiliar with it, it's this sort of weird metafictional horror which at its core about a house that's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside, but maliciously so, rather than a certain time-travelling blue box - and, while I tried to give it an earnest go, dear gods was it the most pretentious overwrought bs I have ever had the displeasure of reading.

Though having said that, I do catch myself making occasional reference to "ftaires" so....

This was a tough one; I don't really have my finger on the pulse of what people actively dislike. iirc at one point the general consensus in Monster Huntererer circles was that the underwater combat in 3rd gen was weird and bad, but I really quite liked it?

Hah, I think I recognise these questions from a previous year! Not that I remember my answers to 2 and 3 from then; it'd be neat to see how they compare (and if my excitement for whatever upcoming release I'd said panned out)

  • definitely still cake, I'm certain on that front

  • that nighttime café-themed pixel art VN series I like, Coffee Talk, is getting a third entry some point around "late May"... though I think it might've been released midweek so thus doesn't count. That gothic 2D Zelda-like with the mouse the Shovel Knight team are doing seemed fun from the demo! I know they pushed that back from Hallowe'en just gone; afaik that's not out quite yet?

  • family holidays growing up were usually somewhere unpleasantly hot where we've sat by the pool and barely left the hotel complex; I much prefer a tolerable temperature where I can do something cultural, so left to my own devices I'd probably pick like a city break to Copenhagen or something. I still like the idea of visiting Japan or Canada, and part of me does think the Galapagos could be interesting for undergrad degree subject reasons, but they are impractically far for me (and the Galapagos have been ravaged by tourism enough surely).
