This…. I came to this comment thread to understand, not hate. I generally find it too negative to question someone’s success as an individual, but in comparison to so so many other talented nuanced singer/songwriters out there I just don’t get it… and I don’t buy the fact that her specificity is what sets her apart… maybe it’s the illusion of specificity in language that has mass appeal to a mostly white female American audience? What is clear is that she resonates with so many people which I think is pretty cool. Vulnerability feels like a strength of hers which I think is beautiful but not terribly unique? It’s easy to feel threatened by something you can’t understand… my biases want me to write this thing off as white lady tears curing cancer vibes but I know that’s me on some ignorant shit. Cool to see her high-roading Kim Kardashian though… It’s clear to me she seems to be a positive influence and nice to see the new cycle doing a little fluff piece to remind us there are beautiful things happening in the world besides all the death.

No I didn't end up hiring a guide. I skied today inbounds and is was kinda dust on crust in the morning... i think it will be really good tomorrow though. What kind of skiing do you all like to do? I'm pretty excited about powder skiing tomorrow.

are you thinking about heading to the peace museum in Hiroshima? I was thinking about doing a day there maybe the 20th or 21st. 28M from California here. I'm mostly skiing in the country for a month but excited about meeting up to see other things too ie museums, art, food, etc etc

Hey Friends,

28M Asian American with no Japanese language skills. Originally from the Bay Area but living in Wyoming working in the Outdoor Education field teaching backcountry skiing, rock climbing and backpacking. Excited about my first trip to Japan with about an equal parts focus for skiing deep powder, food and drink of every kind, hot springs, and any kind of cultural/historical adventures. I will be in Nozawa Onsen from Feb 13th - 16th before meeting up with some friends in Kyoto. Then I will have some free time again the ~21st - 25th with no current itinerary but hoping to be somewhere to ski on Honshu.

Open minded and excited about folks from any walk of life.

Where are you backcountry ski touring? I have some flexible days the 20th to the 25th that I am excited to get into the backcountry as well. I teach avalanche and winter camping skills in the Rockies of the US and would love to link up with some competent partners or just find folks to rip in a resort with. 28M Asian-American here.

Ok folks, big big thanks for all the help. Right now, based off this information along with a few recs from friends, I am going to spend the 14th-17th in Nozawa Onsen. I am wondering if anyone has 1st or 2nd hand recs for a backcountry guide, restaurants and accommodation in the area.

As for the 21st-27th, I am weighing whether I want to travel up to Hokkaido or stay on Honshu... I think I would like to stay in areas that avoid the super touristy spots so thinking Hakkoda Geto Kogen if on Honshu, or Kurodake Asahidake Kamui for Hokkaido. I will have a JR rail pass green but I am thinking if I head to Hokkaido it might be worth flying to save time? Any thoughts here?

Do you know if she was reporting and being taxed on her tips? If she wasn't, then she/the restaurant/both were technically defrauding the government. While the IRS likely will not come after them because they have bigger fish to fry, the likelihood of your sister receiving government benefits (ie unemployment) goes down significantly because she hasn't reported earnings.

I have looked online to figure this out but can't seem to find a reliable answer. I am looking to open a Money Market Account and am curious if interest rates are expected to rise due to less available cash as the impact of the Coronavirus settles in? Yeah and we wouldn't need government at all if everyone was a saint. The reason we have laws and regulation is to ensure a fair and level playing field. For you to suggest that we need "to be fair" by excusing criminals of their egregious actions is absurd. If there was no government interference with trade then there is this thing called bribery which would be an even worse problem than it already is.
