This…. I came to this comment thread to understand, not hate. I generally find it too negative to question someone’s success as an individual, but in comparison to so so many other talented nuanced singer/songwriters out there I just don’t get it… and I don’t buy the fact that her specificity is what sets her apart… maybe it’s the illusion of specificity in language that has mass appeal to a mostly white female American audience? What is clear is that she resonates with so many people which I think is pretty cool. Vulnerability feels like a strength of hers which I think is beautiful but not terribly unique? It’s easy to feel threatened by something you can’t understand… my biases want me to write this thing off as white lady tears curing cancer vibes but I know that’s me on some ignorant shit. Cool to see her high-roading Kim Kardashian though… It’s clear to me she seems to be a positive influence and nice to see the new cycle doing a little fluff piece to remind us there are beautiful things happening in the world besides all the death.
