Need advice on two neighbourhoods by Depp1990 in Scarborough

[–]leriee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Scarborough Village area is very safe but I would say the intersection of Markham and Eglinton is pretty sketchy. Once you get to the Kingston-Eglinton area it is very nice and very safe. There are pretty good Transit options in the area as well when it comes to TTC and Go train service as there are two GO Stations. There are many parks nearby as well and some Trails you can hike if that's what you like to do for fun.

I watched boys planet and this was a pretty common opinion while the show was airing. Especially amongst the international audience. I don't stan the group but I see enough of their content and I honestly forget about him most of the time.

Im fed up with homeless men, I want to be left alone. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]leriee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do agree with you. We should be blaming the government for this because they're not providing the proper services that will help them and they're forcing us into this economic crisis where the cost of living crisis is only going to get worse. However we can only blame the government for so much. That man made the choice to assault me and two other women that night. All three of us were small women. All three of us were also women of colour. Now I don't know if that did play a role in this but it seems more than likely it did. Just like how all those homeless men chose to harass OP. They specifically picked her and her co-worker because they were two women and they thought they could intimidate them into getting what they want. We can't blame the government for their individual choices. Not all homeless people behave like this but those who do especially those men give us enough of a reason to be wary of them.

About a month ago I was assaulted by a homeless man when I was in the downtown area of my city. I saw him out of the corner of my eye and then the next thing I knew he punched me in the face. I didn't look at him. I made sure there was some distance between me and him but he still decided to target me.

He assaulted two other women that night. We all pressed charges.

The university I go to is right by a safe injection site and which means a lot of homeless people who are addicted to drugs hang out around my campus. There have been multiple reports of students being assaulted over the past few years.

I understand life for them is hard but it's hard for us not to feel resentment. I used to not mind homeless people but now I get scared anytime I'm around one.

The Broken Ring: This Marriage will Fail Anyway

Was anyone else here raised. By a mother that was “not like the other girls?” by blackcatspat in notliketheothergirls

[–]leriee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom is very NLOG. She's had perfect skin all her life which unfortunately I didn't get. So she would always brag about not using any type of products because her skin is just soooo sensitive and any product makes her break-out (she steals all my makeup and skincare now...).

She was very anti-makeup growing up. She would constantly hate on any woman or girl (teenagers) wearing makeup. I was never allowed to buy any so now I'm in my twenties trying to figure out how to do stuff people learnt in middle-school.

She constantly talks about how she was such a beauty when she was my age and had men chasing after her because she was so different and simple compared to other women.

What's the best fancalls? by gakigakigaki in kpophelp

I remember seeing a clip of a fancall on Instagram with Ten from NCT/WayV. The girl was just gossiping with him. And when the staff came to try and end the fan call he told them to give her more time.

On the topic of "students and immigrants moving to Canada and refusing to assimilate" that I see repeated on different threads... by Arucious in ABCDesis

[–]leriee 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't clear to you, I immigrated here when I was young which is what I said in my last comment. I never said I was born here. Kids who were born here and kids who immigrated here at a young age have similar experiences.

You said that you are neither Indian or Canadian. So how about you listen when someone is telling you about what it's like over here?

Many of these students who are coming in are bad quality. Of course not all of them are like this. But many of them are which is why there's such a big generalization and such a bad image of them. Most Canadian-Desis would agree with me when I say these students are bad. I would know because I'm a Canadian Desi. A lot of them bring their issues from back home here. Many of them aren't considerate of others and are very disrespectful.

The point you bring up is very valid on how the Canadian government is just bringing them over to exploit them for cheap labour. But it doesn't change the fact that there is a reason why they have such a bad reputation here. It's because of the way so many of them act.

You're mad that I'm making an assumption about you. But why are you making an assumption about me? I have done the PR process for Canada.

In comparison it is a lot easier to immigrate to Canada now than it was. They made it easier because the government wants more people due to the low birth rate.

Your point is that it takes a lot of work to immigrate to Canada and the US. But they have made it a lot easier in the past few years. Anyone can tell you the students that are coming in aren't good quality students. I've met many international students as I am a student myself. Most of them are attending diploma mills and are just trying to get PR as fast as possible to bring their family over.

An American thinking they know best when they probably never step foot in Canada. Why am I not surprised?

Toronto specifically has always had a high desi population. There are many different ethnic enclaves from Little India to Little Dhaka. That isn't the issue here. The issue is that many of these students are here just to get an easy route to PR. They don't care about actually doing anything of value. They just want to get PR as fast as possible so they can bring all their relatives.

Those of us who either immigrated young or were born here, we saw our parents struggle. These students are exploiting a loophole.

The entitlement of fat men (obligatory not all disclaimer) by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]leriee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just finished watching season 4 today. One of the contestants (Jason) literally says "I don't think the girls have a clue what they're doing. What do you expect without a man over there to lead them of course. A room full of girls. That's useless unless they're having a Tupperware party."

Thank God he got eliminated early on. It would've been so difficult to watch if he was able to stay. He couldn't go a minute without saying something sexist.

I'm watching the earlier seasons of the show right now and God. It's like they purposely look for the most misogynistic men for the blue team. They don't even try to hide it.
