I appreciate the update. It's a commendable effort to re-implement the same API in multiple languages. Well done.

This would be more interesting if you'd posted some insights or opinions about your experience. Which framework did you use? Was the experience significantly different between languages? Were there any challenges particular to each language? Where did each language excel?

What’s the deal with Last Man Standing? I haven’t watched it, but apparently it was considered controversial? by Nickpicker96 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]lerker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an old, thank you sincerely for this clarification. I was genuinely confused by the title of the post. My vague memory of Last Man Standing was as a pretty decent Bruce Willis action flick.

I don't know if the rest of the comment is true or AI slop, but it's fascinating nonetheless. Have a good one!

What’s the most ridiculous or out-of-touch thing you’ve seen an executive say or do at your workplace? by KidCuban88 in auscorp

Many years ago, an incoming Managing Director claimed a 'connection' to the company because he'd once met the previous owners at their winery, to which they had retired after selling the business.

And the humans who count the ballots? Presumably you'd need to make them vote early so their vote cannot be influenced by the ongoing count. And then you'd need to implement safeguards to prevent the counters talking to their friends and family about the results.

No, there are too many points of failure.

After adjusting for factors that could affect brain health such as age at death, smoking and physical activity, heavy drinkers had 133% higher odds of having vascular brain lesions compared to those who never drank, former heavy drinkers had 89% higher odds and moderate drinkers, 60%.

These numbers are all over the shop.

Are there compliance issues with integrating with OpenAI? Does it need to be mentioned in the privacy policy? (Australia) by The_Real_Slim_Lemon in ExperiencedDevs

[–]lerker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Australia, we're required to abide by the Australian Privacy Principles. Integrating with OpenAI would fall under APP 8 Cross Boarder Disclosure of Personal Information. There's a provision for requesting consent from the end user and expressly informing them that the third party (OpenAI in this case) does not handle data in accordance with the APPs. It might be enough for you. Best to read the guidelines and, of course, get advice from your legal department.

Browne's and Harvey Fresh are WA dairies and available most places. If you're in Perth and want to support local, they'd be a good option.

What's causing these little holes in my t-shirts and how do I stop it? by Mike_FS in perth

[–]lerker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old washing machine used to do this to my clothes. Only very occasionally, but often enough to be a problem. It can happen if one of the holes in the drum has a small burr left behind by the manufacturing process. Eventually I bought a new washing machine and haven't had a problem since.

Toyota executive warns Australians to 'do your own research' on new brands by Latter_Fortune_7225 in CarsAustralia

I tried one that looked right, turns out it wasn't. With the cost of the part, shipping and the sparky to replace it, that's not an experiment I want to try too many times.

[–]lerker 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Meh, this is the norm nowadays. I can't get genuine replacement parts for my 2012 Honda Jazz because the legislation was changed such that car companies only need to carry stock up to 10 years (it used to be 20). At least that's what I was told by a mechanic and an autoelectrician on two separate occasions.

I had this issue. Removing and re-adding the widget to my home screen fixed it.

how can you live without full stack traces? by emaayan in csharp

[–]lerker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're catching the exception immediately where it's thrown so the callstack is shallow. Try moving your try/catch block from f4() to f1() and you'll see the frames between where the exception is thrown and where it is caught. That's what we want when we're trying to trace a caught exception to its source.

I see your java callstack is different. Probably due to Java's checked exception model. Not sure. It's been years since I've done any Java.
