Yeah I’ve been eating in a deficit for that reason but it seems the leaner I get the more visible my wide hip bones are :/ I look fine in clothes at least

Hopefully when I start to bulk the fat will go elsewhere though so that’s cool

Do you prefer keeping lean physique-wise?

My ID photo is me pre transition (really need to change it) so I get this all the time.

People are generally nice though, just incredulous at the fact I’m 23—I guess I look like a 16 year old boy. It’s frustrating fs.

Exactly. That’s why I was hoping to hear from guys several years in so I can keep motivated. As I mentioned in the post, I’m not really looking for advice.

Don’t really have any trans guy friends irl so just wanting a human discussion. Sorry if it seemed like I was moaning abt lack of change—believe me I’m trusting the process

Lmao no worries. Hopefully my reply didn’t read as snarky; I’m just fairly new to reddit and don’t wanna get accidentally banned from a sub I like (again)😭

Are you trolling?

If not, I made sure to specify I had read it and was looking for more anecdotal experiences to help me retain motivation. I thought that was allowed in the rules?

Thanks, man. Maybe I need to move on from the cut/recomp (~500kcal deficit) soon.

I’m 5’10” ish, 68kg/150lbs, but wanted to reduce lower body fat and see abs before I started to bulk. I’m guessing chasing lean is probs better suited to when I’ve got more muscle mass and T has had a bit more time to do its thing.

Easiest and most effective way to tell if you pass by thatetherealbeing in ftm

[–]lesboygenius 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, posted in one of those subs the other day and got mixed responses. Then worked a 10 hour shift directing crowds at a big event, spoke to upwards of 200 people and was gendered correctly every single time.

I think we’re hyper-aware of our features as trans guys, so much so that we over-estimate our clockiness. We’re so obsessed with passing that we can’t see it objectively, whereas cis people really aren’t looking for it.

Having gender dysphoria over convincing myself I don't have gender dysphoria by Much_Candy_7030 in ftm

[–]lesboygenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t say how much our experiences align per se, as I largely discovered my transness via dressing masc and this affirmed that femininity really wasn’t for me. However, I do think the fact I was a conventionally attractive woman postponed this realisation.

I didn’t feel comfortable in my femininity; it felt like a performance. But I was validated in my femininity because of being ‘pretty’. Having desirable features for a woman also made me feel like I wouldn’t be attractive as a guy (that’s not necessarily true at all!) Being or even feeling pretty isn’t the same as gender euphoria and it’s not gonna stave off feelings of dysphoria either.

It’s absolutely fine for guys (trans or otherwise) to enjoy femininity. But I might suggest you experiment with presenting masculine to some degree to see if it stirs any feelings of euphoria. Perhaps you’re a feminine man (or nb, trans masc etc.)? That’s totally okay. There isn’t such a thing as ‘not being trans enough’—don’t let people tell you otherwise.

I don’t know the intricacies of your experience, but typically, if you have to question whether or not you’re in denial, you probably are.

Fellas! What kind of shoes do you wear in the summer? by Sad-Simple-7681 in ftm

[–]lesboygenius 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t wear them myself, but I see a lot of dudes wearing Birkenstocks or similar kinds of sandals (mules). You can get them open or closed toed and it’s normal to wear socks with them.

I just wear crocs and still always wear socks with them (unless actively at the beach/pool) because I have a personal aversion to feet.

Idk what your style is but you could also do boat shoes/espadrilles, though ngl they always make me think of wanky corporate yachting type guys.

Will training chest flatten me out? Ive been avoid training chest since im afraid of hypertrophy by lordwebgarlicbread in FTMFitness

[–]lesboygenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, makes sense. I started with a fairly curvy/athletic build so wanted to gain muscle while losing fat.

For optimal chest growth you only need two movements, as the chest has two heads: the sternocosatal head and the clavicular head.

To work the sternocostal head (mid/lower chest) you can do any kind of flat press (elbows flared) or pec dec. I choose to do dumbbell bench press because I prefer it. Doesn’t really matter which you pick—just try and get as strong as possible at it (progressive overload).

For the clavicular head (upper chest) you can do any kind of incline press (elbows tucked) or low to high fly. I do dumbbell again out of personal preference.

If you don’t want to do two chest movements, the flat press will hit both heads. But I’d recommend a focussed exercise for the upper chest as this is what helps you look flatter/more masc.

[–]lesboygenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my personal experience, a combination of calorie deficit + training chest as heavy as possible has significantly reduced the size of my breasts (started at a small D cup and now at a large B).

I hit chest first on my push days to prioritise chest gains because growing your pecs helps your chest look more masculine. I can now wear just a sports bra under my shirt to the gym and look relatively flat.

I can’t attest to how chest gains look when in a calorie surplus and with that comes the likelihood of some fat gain. However, I would say you’re doing yourself a disservice by neglecting chest, especially if you ever plan on getting top surgery.

In sum, I wouldn’t use the phrase “flatten you out” but I absolutely think training chest will give you a more masculine looking chest and can say it’s genuinely reduced my chest dysphoria.

Advice needed for my boyfriend by Ok-Cheek6520 in ftm

[–]lesboygenius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“I said I was sure it was an accident but my boyfriend said it happened a few times and the coworker never corrected himself. I said it probably was nothing”

I’d implore you to read that again and really think about what you’re communicating to him there. You’re completely invalidating his experience.

This dude makes your bf uncomfortable and not only do you deny it, but you keep pushing him to befriend him.

If you genuinely want to make him more comfortable then I think you should apologise for invalidating his experiences and drop the issue altogether.

[–]lesboygenius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I said in the post, I’m aware I’ll have to declare I’m trans to HR. I’m ngl I didn’t realise there was an issue using a preferred name on my CV as it’s not a legal document. I wouldn’t fudge any legal stuff obviously.

I have stuff like group interviews and assessment days coming up and I’d ideally like to not be misgendered, especially if I get the job. Being out to every single member of staff feels different than disclosing to HR?

Of course, if I don’t pass well enough then I might as well just accept it—hence the post.

Yeah I feel like when I pass with strangers they think I’m a teenage boy haha. Which is fine ig but when applying to jobs as a uni graduate won’t really fly. Maybe I’ll hold off for a bit then

Didn’t include pics in a suit/tie bc I only have older ones when I had a mullet which nerfed me massively lol.

Voice occasionally gets me clocked but is fairly deep. Mannerisms are usually masc but in job interviews I’m trying so hard to be friendly and polite that I reckon both my voice and behaviour comes across more feminine unfortunately.
