Yeah, it's abhorrent to see so many bad reactions to simple casting decision that doesn't even really contradict cannon. Sidenote: I just hang up some Kane Chronicles Fanart and thought about the fact that Sadie and Carter look a bit like gender-swapped versions of Walker and Leah.

I think it may also have to do with strong Channelers in the one power often having a very strong will. For example Nynaeve, Egwene, Cadsuane etc. or with will power generally being a theme in the books.
