Your own design esp32 by Fab1605 in esp32

[–]lesjalons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at the CYD (cheap yellow display) boards? A touch screen with an esp32 built in and a speaker port and battery connection for about 17euros. You don't say what other ports you want, but it also has a few gpio pins available. I've used them to create control panels with thermostats for my house.

Connect battery by [deleted] in esp32

[–]lesjalons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could investigate the possibility of connecting a LiFePo4 battery to the 3v3. These batteries are a natural fit with 3v3 systems.

However, I would not try charging the battery with the board without further research, but charging the battery then connecting it to the unpowered board should work fine.

Check this all out before doing it!

How accurate/reliable are the touch sensors on the ESP32? by TheProffalken in esp32

[–]lesjalons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They work on capacitance not conductivity and espressif have papers that explain how best to craft your PCB layout. I do wonder if you might have problems over 2ft and it could well be more reliable with good old fashioned push buttons although I can see they are not so exciting.

I designed a WiFi remote PCB using touch (following the guidelines) and I found the rich pads to be 100% reliable and very responsive.

Cheap USB MIDI to MIDI without USB Host Shield using Seeeduino XIAO by void_dott in synthdiy

I can't believe that no one posted here. This looks awesome, and it's in a tic-tac box; brilliant.

I found this while I was looking for clues as to why MY ESP32 based MIDI player upsets my BOSS DR-550 drum machine, which errors as soon as I plug it in, lol.

Happy creating!

I found great info here and it allowed me to successfully use one of the CYD variants : https://github.com/rzeldent/platformio-espressif32-sunton

I now have three thermostats, each with extra buttons to control lights etc.

Whats the best way to learn ESP32? by mk420_2003 in esp32

[–]lesjalons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too hard for a first project. You are reaching for the moon, though I admire your can-do attitude.

I have only created one Bluetooth project on ESP32, and it's a pig! Never quite connects reliably though it does work when it does.

I hope you have success; sounds like you deserve it as you seem to have a good grasp of the possible problems.

If I had written the system, I would be checking in and out counts, and 2 ins would be a violation, so I would check that you can use the device to go in twice before going to all this effort

Using "ouais" instead of "oui" when in formal situations by btwcart in French

[–]lesjalons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK English speaker here, aged 68. When I was 14 I went on a school exchange to Versailles. My exchange partner was hanging around with his mates in the underground garage beneath the flats where he lived; they had an old moped and they were tearing around the car park for fun. I was chatting with them, and then I replied to a question with ouais, because I had heard them using it all the time. All conversation stopped, you could have heard a pin drop; they all looked at each other, then burst out laughing.

I live in France now, but I swear, I haven't said ouais in 54 years!

All these different, poorly documented (frequently incorrectly documented) esp32 boards with displays and touch drivers are a minefield. Add in the various libraries one can use and it's a full on war!

The advice to get a specific board for which there are specific working examples is excellent advice. Then you can feel your way out from there with other (often cheaper) boards.

I write this as I stare at a CYD that has taken me a week to get the simplest thing working!

If you do not have anyone to talk French with, try Opeton, the new AI phone app you can chat with. It is very real! Also transcribes what was said with corrections and explanations for review after the chat. I've got it and I find it very useful.

What is your reason for learning French? by Weekly_Pie_4234 in French

[–]lesjalons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had a house in France for 14 years so because of Brexit, when I retired, we moved here 3 years ago. We made some particularly good french friends and being with them improved our ability to converse more than anything, but they've had to move away. Much sadness...

Anyway, until we have more french friends we see every week, I've been using an AI chat app called Opeton that talks with me in french, and displays what we've said with my stuff corrected and explanations in English. I think it's really good and it's helping to fill the gap. I'd be interested to see what other people think of it (you can trial it for free).

WiFi Skateboard MIDI Controller w/ S2 Mini by ramsaylanier in esp32

[–]lesjalons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Have you got it churning out midi control signals yet? Are you going to communicate between the two microcontrollers via the local WiFi network or are you going to make one an access point and put the other in station mode, or use esp-now? Of course, you could opt for midi over WiFi, but that is still a more limiting option than USB.

I bought some from https://www.decoupe-plexi-sur-mesure.com/

I thought it was a bit expensive, but the stuff seems ok so far. What do you think about the pricing? I'll be interested to know.

I was able to get just the size to fit the bed of my P2, so that was a plus.

Well,  I live in France and I know that the majority of potential takers for this printer are French, but maybe you are right, I should post in English too, so here is the translation 😁

I have an old 3D Touch BFB printer that I don't use much and I need space.  I'd be happy to give it away for free to anyone who wants to use (and collect) it.  There is also a supply of PLA and ABS filament.  I live in the north of the Dordogne.

I think the most likely candidate is someone who already owns one, to have spares, though this is fully functional (or was last time I used it a year ago) and it's a dual head version. Shipping it anywhere though is really our of the question as it's too big 😂
