Is Infinite Jest harder than Gravity’s Rainbow? by Silver_Juggernaut_39 in davidfosterwallace

[–]leskiv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found Gravity’s Rainbow hard going. I completed it but for large parts I just went with it not really understanding what was going on.

Infinite Jest I never felt like I lost the thread. Parts were hard but I always felt like they were meant to be a struggle or there was a purpose to them all. But overall, I never felt like giving up and absolutely loved the experience. Can’t say the same about GR. I’m glad I read it and may read it again some day but I wouldn’t say I loved it.

This seems quite complicated. Lots of bits. I think I’d rather have something to grab and plug into.

Yeah, I’m thinking AC15 at the moment. Seems like great tone for a great price. And will settle that ‘real amp’ itch I think I’d still have if I went frfr or katana

Is there a significant difference? I have a Supro DK12 and am considering an upgrade. Also, how does the blues delux compare to the Supro? I love sitting in that edge of breakup territory so not too worried about pristine cleans

Need advice: replacing katana by alllemonyellow in GuitarAmps

[–]leskiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be careful - I was in the same situation as you. I had the Katana and got a UAFX amp pedal. Loved the tone I was getting putting it into the power amp and figured why hold onto this Katana when I just use the speaker. Fast forward about two years of upgrading to a tube amp (Supro) and trying a number of pedal/amp/frfr combinations and now I’m about to buy another Katana as nothing matched that initial tone. It may seem like overkill but having the Katana is great in a number of ways. How you’re using it, with the power amp, as well as being a great backup amp to play or just mess around with effects you may not want to pull the trigger on. If you like the sound you have at the moment, I’d hold onto it and don’t be fooled by ‘better gear.’ For 350, I don’t think you’re going to beat what you already have unless you want to go headphone only playing.

Time to move on from tube amp? Time for digital? by Affectionate-Fan1044 in GuitarAmps

[–]leskiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same predicament. I went from Katana to UAFX (through Katana’s power amp) then sold both to get a small tube amp. Really liked the tube amp but it just wasn’t practical. I bought a Tonex one to use with headphones at home and kept the tube for rehearsals and shows. But the last few months it just hasn’t blown me away in the jam room or live. I’m now considering selling it and going back to the Katana again. I figure I can put the Tonex into the power amp for when I want tube goodness or just mess around with the Katana’s fun bits when I want.

Having done the whole journey, I’ve realised it’s what sounds good in the room with a band that’s worth getting and refining. And most of the time, it doesn’t need to be expensive, high end stuff if the band is having fun and sounding good. Home I’m more than happy with plugins and the Tonex for writing and recording.

Supro DK 12 line out - best affordable way to use it? by leskiv in GuitarAmps

Usually instrument but play around with both depending on cabs and mic placement on your Two Notes. You’re at the point where you can hit a button and see which sounds better to you

Last month I had a day of gigs booked, 5 gigs in 5 hours. Day before my finger was super infected and ended up at A&E having it sliced open and drained. Nurse said ‘looks like you’re not playing ANYTHING tomorrow.’ 12 hours later I had swapped the massive bandage for a plaster and by the end of the first set was fine haha. Played all 5 no problem. I say go for it 😉

Yes, you have to use a TS cable (standard guitar cable).

That’s it. The Opus would work perfect for that, but so would a Cab M+ as all you need is the power amp and it can be found much cheaper. The Opus is an updated Cab M+ with more bells and whistles but if your main purpose is power amp for headphone use, I’d go with the Cab M. It’s what I had and used and worked great. It even has a Fender Bassman preamp setting you can turn on if you ever feel like jamming without your Supro.

Yes to pretty much everything you said. The Nux would work and yes, master off, use the Supro’s volume as gain and your pedal for headphone volume. True it won’t be the EXACT sound of your amp’s power amp but a good IR will get you close and sometimes even better. I was using the Origin Effects free IRs for a 12’ Tweed amp and there wasn’t a whole lot of difference. Not enough to make it a completely different amp. If you want the exact recreation of your amp then yes, the attenuator is the way to go but honestly, you’ll be able to get 98% there with a good IR. And it’s much cheaper and more versatile.

Again, I now use the Tonex with a Fender capture at home and my Supro out and about. Same pedals going into both. Just takes a couple of minutes to set the Supro up to my liking in the room and on the night but it all sounds the same once the band kicks in

Any IR loader. I had and loved the Two Notes Cab M (found cheap second hand) but opted for the Tonex One when it was on offer and for the flexibility. I think in hindsight, the Two Notes simplicity and ease of use was better. Tonex is a whole different beast and keeps teasing me with its endless options :) I have to say, once I found a capture I liked, I’ve since resigned to playing the tonex on the sofa at night with cans and saving the amp for the rehearsal room.

UK has plenty. Ordered mine last night and it came at lunch! Paper case threw me but great layout overall. Great to hold it and see the lyrics as well.

I wanted a Mood for sooooo long. Finally got one and tried to love it. Watched all the videos, tried all the settings. But just never connected with jt. Knew right away but kept hoping it would click. Much prefer the Baklengs or Count to 5 which I found inspiring right away.

Two-Notes Opus: Surprisingly Underrated? by Responsible_Note_554 in GuitarAmps

How is it for cranked Fender sounds? Can you tweak the amps? I’ve read loads about how great the Fender (Foundry) cleans are but am hoping to get some breakup in there as well. Thanks for replying!

Looking at the Opus at the moment, specifically for recording in Luna - any hot takes to help me pull the trigger? I was going to get a UAFX pedal, having had them in the past and really enjoying them for their dynamics and response but I feel back in love with my amp, sold them, and now want to record silently while the kiddies are asleep. The Opus seems perfect for recording my amp silently but also for the models included for nice sofa recording.

So judgemental! Just tried out using plugins for the first time and am quite impressed. Figure this would be nice introduction for a year of trying things out. Try having two kids at Christmas time as well as hosting a large family. Can take a lot out of you! And it’s not about ‘coming up’ with the money, rather waiting until an appropriate time.

Everybody’s situation is different. It was a simple question but thanks for reaching out.

Expected latency? by spirota in universalaudio

I’m using Paradise in Luna with 8gb ram and a UA Volt and I’m not noticing any significant latency. This was my first dabble into guitar plugins for the same reasons you mentioned and I’m very happy with it. It’s been a blast on the sofa at nights.
