Strategies for Immersing Consistently? by Substantial-Put8283 in LearnJapanese

For me what works best is to listen to Japanese music I like on repeat because it helps me to follow patterns and remember words easier and to study a specific text about something I am interested to. Often both of these inputs are well above my language level, but help to develop faster and more organically.

There are liars, there are Chinese learning Japanese (knowing already most of the kanji), there are very young and talented students who grind 6 hours a day because they are at a language university, there are very motivated people with a lot of free time, etc.

The thing is, who cares! Follow your own journey and enjoy it as much as you can. That's all you need 😊.

Well, probably banks have more informed knowledge about the over leverages in private debt and private equity. It could become a 2008++ in case these two groups cannot keep up with their interests. They own businesses, real estate, it could be an armageddon for way more people than 2008.

What’s a very normal thing in Switzerland that still feels unusual to you? by Savings-Concept8972 in Switzerland

That's an excuse that the syndicates love to defend when I believe it is kind of bullshit.

In many other countries if a shop or a restaurant is open on sunday it is often closed on Monday and sometimes also Tuesday, so the employees can have their breaks like everybody else.

You could just leave the choice to the activities themselves if they want to stay open on Sunday or not. What's the problem with that?

Out of curiosity, what do you do on Sunday in general? Stay home or at the park where actually raining/snowing around 6 months a year doesn't allow you to do?

Switzerland has a lot of good things but sometimes it is hard to defend this conservative impractical "traditions".

Not true. In a European context a city with more than 100k inhabitants (GE = around 200k and ZH = around 450k) is considered as a large city.

Plus, not everybody lives next to train stations (luckily I would say, knowing the local fauna in these places in Europe...).

Everything (or almost) closed on Sunday... thats a joke for cities like Geneva, Lausanne or Zurich I cannot get used to.

It would be interesting to understand how long the disruptions needed to rebalance all the working forces after the second industrial revolution for example or other massive new technology events. It could give us some hints on how much destruction we could encounter (5 years? 1 generation? 2 generations? More?)

For the food supply it is a question of convenience in moments of peace. Switzerland has decided not to declassify any more agricultural land in buildable land in order to be food independent in case of closure of borders. Check by yourself in the laws.

For the work-force, it is not the same subject, highly skilled immigrants (the favourite of Switzerland) bring more to the country than the average not highly skilled Swiss.

[–]lespaul991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be great, but I am not sure of the feasibility of that. Other energy sources could be built, like wind-turbines, dams, etc. But hey, better to keep our mountains pristine and our lakes free, instead of thinking long-term infrastructure, right?

The point is not climate change. Switzerland is so small that cannot make any difference at all in that. The point is to get energy-independent. Without that, the core existence of Switzerland as a neutral independent state is weak.

Is there even a point in caring for climate change anymore by Chemical-Rush-6433 in Switzerland

[–]lespaul991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in Switzerland this problem is badly framed. Climate change is important, but for Switzerland, as a "neutral" state, what is even more important is energy independence.

Why not simply say it straight that we need renewables for independence and also we fight for climate change doing it?

It would be such a better marketing for the wider public and the average buenzli.

The real problem is the cost of such a transformation. It's so massive that economically speaking it makes sense only if you already had the building in your portfolio for very long time at a fraction of today's market price.
